There is an option in Vino's configuration dialog to show that icon in systray *only* when is somebody connected, so it's kind of security issue; especially when incoming connection confirmation is turned off. Leaving local user in belief that nobody is connected to his/her desktop when the opposite is true is bad practice. This issue can be easily fixed adding the item 'Vino' to com.canonical.Unity.Panel.systray-whitelist.
