Hi, I have had same issue on my Dell XPS L521X on Linux Mint 18 x64. Same problem on ubuntu 12.10 amd64. Both in (ubuntu 12.04-provided) kernel 3.2.0 and kernel 3.5.0. I found myself a solution: run alsamixer in the terminal there you can mute (press m ) the headphone. This is not a solution for a long time, but I think you cand handle the problem for a while.
