Title:
High CPU & IO usage after starting VirtualBox

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Operating system: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (up-to-date) with kernel 3.2.0-24-generic
x86_64
  System: HP EliteBook 8440p Core i7-640M / 4g 500gb 14”
  Package version: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu1

Occurences: 1 (that's the first time I have this issue)

  Problem:
   - VirtualBox was opened and try to send sound through alsa drivers.
   - System nearly freezes and the harddrive is working hard.
   - When I get the system back, there were some logs in the /var/log/syslog:

  May 10 07:58:15 inf-p-ols pulseaudio[2557]: [alsa-sink] alsa-util.c:
snd_pcm_avail() returned a value that is exceptionally large: 866268 bytes
