[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1738676] Re: With natural scrolling, horizontal sliders behave backwards

Title:
With natural scrolling, horizontal sliders behave backwards

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When natural-scrolling is enabled, controlling horizontal sliders is
  backwards and counter intuitive.

The volume control in the top-bar "speaker" icon is backwards.

  You have to...
  - scroll DOWN, to INCREASE the volume
  - scroll UP, to DECREASE the volume

  Expected behavior:

  Enable natural-scrolling and
  - scroll UP, to INCREASE the volume
  - scroll DOWN, to DECREASE the volume
  - scroll UP, to INCREASE the screen brightness
  - scroll DOWN, to DECREASE the screen brightness

Enable natural-scrolling, hover over a horizontal slider, and...
  - scroll UP, to move the slider to the RIGHT
  - scroll DOWN, to move the slider to the LEFT

This happens for the OSD volume icon, and for the volume slider in the
  topbar menu.

This also happens for screen brightness controls.

This problem occurs for both mouse natural-scrolling and touchpad
  natural scrolling.

  Expected fix:

When the pointer hovers over the speaker icon in the scroll actions on the
speaker icon in the top bar should be reversed.
When the user interacts with a horizontal slider, scrolling to the top should
always move the slider to the right, and scrolling down should always move the
slider to the left, even if natural-scrolling is enabled.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1727318] Re: I can not change Wallpaper after Ubuntu 17.10 Update

2017-12-23 Thread PJSingh5000
I tried to set an svg as my wallpaper by right clicking on it.
Then I opened Gnome Control Center.
I clicked on Backgrounds in gnome Control center, but Control Center froze.
The background id get set after a delay, but I had to kill Control Center.
Afterwards, I saw the error in the logs.

Below is the case for Fedora ( and possibly arch ), which use faac
encoder.

[rem@fc25 ~]$ gst-inspect-1.0 | grep -i aac
faac: faac: AAC audio encoder
faad: faad: AAC audio decoder
...

[rem@fc25 ~]$ gst-inspect-1.0 faac
...
quality : Variable bitrate (VBR) quantizer quality in %
flags: readable, writable
Integer. Range: 1 - 1000 Default: 100

bitrate : Average Bitrate (ABR) in bits/sec
flags: readable, writable

which supports cbr and vbr, and hence their gstreamer profiles. Refer to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1638983] Re: Boot splash with luks password prompt broken after nvidia upgrade to 367

Title:
Boot splash with luks password prompt broken after nvidia upgrade to
  367

Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-367 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Just got the nvidia driver update from 361 to 367. Upon reboot, the
boot splash (plymouth?) with the password prompt for the encrypted
  root is missing.

The screen flashes dark purple and the switches to black with a
blinking cursor echoing anything typed. Ctrl-alt-del reboots. Booting
with kernel options "quiet splash" removed results in a text-mode boot
process where the password prompt is present, proceeding normally.

Wasn't sure if this was plymouth or nvidia issue, I'm guessing nvidia
because that's what upgraded and broke functionality.

  Tried redoing update-grub and update-initramfs, didn't help. Found I
  had both nvidia-361 and nvidia-367 installed (why didn't -361
uninstall?), but manually removing -361 (and redoing initramfs just in
  case) didn't change anything.

By manually compiling libfaac I meant the gstreamer faac from gst-

gst-plugins-bad/gst-plugins-bad1.0-1.12.4/ext/faac

not libfaac, which should anyway be installed as part of build
dependency for gstreamer faac, as below:

The following additional packages will be installed:

is a bug in gnome-software; reassigning.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1733127] Re: Session crashes when monitor is disconnected

2017-12-23 Thread Modestas
I have this bug too. Please fix ASAP because it is driving me insane! I
turn off monitor to save electricity and ubuntu logs off terminating all
my programs!!! How can you even release with such a big bug! I don't
have this problem with other Linux distros.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1739936] [NEW] Screen flickering on Razer Blade Stealth (Late 2017)

2017-12-23 Thread John Stevens
Public bug reported:

Hi. I've recently just received this laptop (it's the 8th gen i7 blade
stealth) and it's plagued with screen flickering. I've tried installing
the latest kernel with the proper i915 firmware. I've also tried Arch
Linux, and had no luck there. So, I've settled back with Ubuntu and
installed the 18.04 Bionic Beaver Daily ISO.

Description:Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
Release:18.04
Kernel: 4.15.0-997-generic

I'm not really sure what would be causing the issue. I'll happily use
this as a test-bed to help improve Ubuntu! Thanks for your time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1709159] Re: Mouse cursor stuck on primary monitor on dual monitor system

Title:
Mouse cursor stuck on primary monitor on dual monitor system

Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am running a Wayland session with Nouveau drivers on an NVIDIA GeForce GTS
450.
I have a dual monitor setup with my primary on the right.
My primary display is slightly higher than my secondary on the left as
configured in Displays.

When I play a video full screen on the left monitor and then bring my
mouse cursor back to my primary on the right, the mouse cursor often
refuses to go back onto the left monitor (as if I only had one
monitor). Once I switch to overview mode, it will let the mouse go
back over to the left monitor again. The mouse will continue working
  across both monitors now.

I go back into the video and toggle out of full screen and then back
to full screen and bring my mouse back over to the right monitor. It
is now stuck on the right monitor again.

So.. activation of full screen on the left secondary monitor and then
moving the mouse cursor onto the right primary is enough to reproduce
  the bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594043] Re: Can't select mp4 encoder settings

2017-12-23 Thread rithik g
whereas with debian and its derivatives ( Ubuntu / Mint ), aac encoder
from libav is used.

Refer https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gst-plugins-
bad1.0/+bug/1299376

rem@debian:~$ gst-inspect-1.0 | grep -i aac
libav: avenc_aac: libav AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) encoder
libav: avdec_aac: libav AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) decoder
...

rem@debian:~$ gst-inspect-1.0 avenc_aac
...
  bitrate : Target Audio Bitrate
flags: readable, writable
Integer. Range: 0 - 2147483647 Default: 0

I guess from the above, libav's aac encoder supports only default
configuration. Can't see a quality element property here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594043] Re: Can't select mp4 encoder settings

2017-12-23 Thread rithik g
Tried manually compiling libfaac and copying it to /usr/lib/x86_64
-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0/

Now debian lists faac too

rem@debian:~$ gst-inspect-1.0 | grep -i aac
faac: faac: AAC audio encoder
...

Now, CBR / VBR profiles are now visible in Rhythmbox ( debian ) and
hence should be in Rhythmbox ( ubuntu ) too.

So, the conclusion is that bug scope is outside of Rhythmbox ( Ubuntu )
