[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2015800] [NEW] Blank screen after inactivity when set to Never

2023-04-10 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:

OS: 23.04
g-c-c: 44.0-1ubuntu4

My laptop is plugged into the charger and indicates that it is charging.
In gnome-control-center, I have the "Screen Blank" setting set to Never.

Also, "Automatic Suspend" is set to only happen when on battery power.
So perhaps even though the battery charger icon indicates it's charging,
maybe g-c-c thinks it's not?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003104] [NEW] Transparency ignored in full screen mode

2023-01-17 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 23.04 running wayland
gnome-terminal 3.46.7-1ubuntu1

In gnome-terminal, I have set the transparency to some amount. When I go
to full screen (F11), the transparency is lost and the default
transparency is used. When I exit full screen, the transparency comes
back and I can see in the profile settings that the transparency has not
changed.

It seems that tranparency was accidentally removed, and then re-added via
https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/tree/debian/patches/0001-Restore-transparency.patch?h=applied/ubuntu/lunar-devel

However, maybe something was missed with regards to full screen.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2013115] [NEW] Bluetooth slider needs toggling two times to disconnect to device

2023-03-28 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:

OS: 23.04
gnome-control-center: 44.0-1ubuntu3
bluez: 5.66-0ubuntu1

I use a common bose QC45 headset daily and if I want to disconnect the
device, I need to click the toggle slider twice to actually get the
headset to disconnect (I hear confirmation of this in the headset).

I would expect to only have to click the slider once to disconnect from

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1844897] Re: wifi icon has question mark in it even though network is fine

2022-11-21 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Since upgrading to kinetic, I see this daily. My network connectivity
seems fine but yet the question mark appears in the wifi icon. Randomly
the question mark will go away, leaving a normal wifi indicator showing
connectivity, and then it will come back. There is no visible change in
the network in that my video meeting connection seems unwavering.

While this initial bug is based on 19.10, I have only started seeing it
since upgrading 22.04->22.10.

Bug description:
After experiencing some "turbulence" in my wifi (I rebooted my primary
wifi router, which caused my laptop to fallback onto a secondary
access point which didn't have full connectivity until the primary
router finished rebooting, then I rebooted the primary router a second
time), the wifi icon in my top bar stayed as the question-mark icon
(i.e., the icon that shows when Network Manager doesn't think you have
full connectivity) even after everything was back up and in fact my
  connectivity was fine.

Turning wifi off and back on did not cause the question mark to go
away. Restarting Network Manager did not cause the question mark to go
away. Switching to a different wifi network and then back to the
previous one didn't cause the question mark to go away. I had to
reboot my laptop to get the question mark to go away.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998253] Re: [snap] Editing identity doesn't display fields

2022-11-29 Thread Heather Ellsworth
If you go to the Account Settings in thunderbird, click Manage
Identities (this screenshot).. then you see a list of your identities
tied to that account. When I click Edit for any of them, I see the blank
window (attached in description).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998253] Re: [snap] Editing identity doesn't display fields

2022-11-29 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Worth noting that I refreshed my snap to stable (102.5.0-2). When I
launched it on the cli, it gave me a window saying my profile was no
longer compatible with this older 102 version of thunderbird. Still
though, when I launched it, I see:

heather@fenrir:~$ sudo snap refresh thunderbird --stable

thunderbird 102.5.0-2 from Canonical✓ refreshed

heather@fenrir:~$ snap run thunderbird

Gtk-Message: 13:55:13.733: Not loading module "atk-bridge": The functionality
is provided by GTK natively. Please try to not load it.

ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.

The difference from the 108 version is that the 108 version has:

[GFX1-]: glxtest: VA-API test failed: missing or old libva-drm library.

whereas the 102 version does not. Perhaps this is the issue.

I also tested the thunderbird deb in the kinetic archive, version
102.4.2+build2-0ubuntu0.22.10.1, on the same host. The same window has
the expected content (see attachment).

Title:
  [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.4 for focal

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 6.4.4 is in its fourth bugfix release of the 6.4 line. Version
6.4.4 is currently in focal.
For a list of fixed bugs compared to 6.4.3 see the list of bugs fixed in
the two release candidates:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.4/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.4/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs
 (that's a total of 98 bugs)

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Test Case]

   * No specific test case, bugs fixed upstream hopefully come with
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
upstream (both in an automated manner and manually) by a community of
testers. Each minor release normally goes through two release
  candidates.

   * The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests, those should be run
  and verified to pass.

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite
  should be carried out.

  [Regression Potential]

   * A minor release with a total of 98 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1905422] Re: CoinMP Solver not Available

Ok so looks like CoinMP was disabled in 2015 but then Rene re-eneabled
it only a few months ago:

However, this is for groovy - the only series for which we've published
_in the archive_ a 7.X version of Libreoffice. Rafael, are you using the
snap or perhaps you can point to the PPA that is providing your
Libreoffice debs?

I am currently using LibreOffice 7.0.3.1 on Ubuntu 20.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1902535] Re: Calc freeze when I try to export ods to xlm 2003 format

2020-11-24 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Would it be possible for you to attach a log message of the crash then,
since it's not related to missing fonts?

Boot the system, reproduce the problem, then grab the journalctl logs
with:

$ journalctl -b 0 > myjournal.log

and attach it. This will make it so much easier to diagnose what is
actually going on. Thanks so much!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1904377] Re: writer doesn't open

2020-11-24 Thread Heather Ellsworth
I don't see anything specific to libreoffice in the log.. Rocco, could
you please try this (and tell me if that's what you did already)

1. In a terminal start capturing the journalctl log:
journalctl -f > myjournal.log

2. Reproduce the crash

3. Go back to your terminal and cancel the log capturing with Ctrl+C

And attach that log here. Thanks.

If there really is nothing log'd during the crash then I would recommend
uninstalling/reinstalling libreoffice.

2020-11-24 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Ok so you're no longer hitting the original issue anymore - that's
great!

As to why the file would triple in size, it's because odt is a
compressed zip archive and xml is the uncompressed zip archive:

https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/he/text/shared/00/0021.html

See "XML File Structure" section.

   * Version 7.0.2 is currently released in groovy. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.0.2 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidate (that's a
total of 92 bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.0.3/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

* A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1905422] Re: CoinMP Solver not Available, option requires coinmp to be promoted

2020-11-30 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Without a reason of why CoinMP was disabled in 2015, I don't have a
basis to go off on to re-evaluate enabling it. We could revert the patch
Olivier mentioned in comment 1 to close this bug but could be
reintroducing an old issue. Olivier/Seb, your suggestions?

CoinMP Solver not Available, option requires coinmp to be promoted

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Hi! LibreOffice Calc supports the CoinMP Linear Solver, which is an
excellent solver to be used in spreadsheets and makes LO Calc superior
to other office suites in that regard.

However, the build provided by this PPA does not come with CoinMP
Solver enabled (see Tools > Solver > Options). I posted a question at
Ask LibreOffice and I was informed that CoinMP is enabled by default
during build and maybe the PPA maintainers chose to disable it.

  https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/240836/coinmp-solver-on-
  libreoffice-calc/

In fact, I built LibreOffice from source and CoinMP was there.
However, building from source is not convenient and I'd like to use
  the PPA.

Is it possible that CoinMP Solver be included in future builds of
  LibreOffice provided by this PPA?

I am currently using LibreOffice 7.0.3.1 on Ubuntu 20.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1906162] Re: Lubuntu 20.04 and 20.10: Libreoffice: font of some dialog-windows is too small

2020-11-30 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Thank you so much for your bug report and making Ubuntu better!

There are some issues with Qt integration library already. However, due
to resources vs priority, this is pretty low especially since there's a
workaround.

  maybe this problem exists for more dialog-windows in LibreOffice;
this problem does not occur in the open/save-dialog-window (I think, it is
because the open/save-dialog-window uses the LXQt File Dialog)

now run those 2 lines on the terminal:
  sudo apt install libreoffice-kf5
  sudo apt remove libreoffice-qt5

now the VLC is set to gtk3 (this information can be found in: Help>About

Hi! LibreOffice Calc supports the CoinMP Linear Solver, which is an

However, the build provided by this PPA does not come with CoinMP

In fact, I built LibreOffice from source and CoinMP was there.
However, building from source is not convenient and I'd like to use
  the PPA.

Is it possible that CoinMP Solver be included in future builds of

I am currently using LibreOffice 7.0.3.1 on Ubuntu 20.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1905322] Re: LibreOffice crashes under load.

2020-12-01 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Following the video, I created a daily hirsute lubuntu vm. Then I opened
calc, writer, math. Once all three of those blank documents were up, I
opened Impress and chose the vivid template. I see the template load and
nothing crashes. Other templates load fine too.

Can you please do the following:
1. Open calc, writer, math
2. Open a terminal and run impress with:
$ strace libreoffice --impress

This should open up impress, go ahead and select the vivid theme. I
assume you'll see the crash and your terminal command will exit.. Could
you please capture the output and provide it here?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1905114] Re: Lenovo System Firmware update will not download or install and Impress 7.0 crashes

2020-12-01 Thread Heather Ellsworth
I opened the odp presentation but Impress never crashes so it's not the
presentation that is the problem and we need more information about the
environment.

Lillian, please open a new bug about the impress issue by typing this in
a terminal on your system:

ubuntu-bug libreoffice

In the description please mention:
1. The output of "cat /etc/os-release"
2. Capture the logs in a terminal while you generate the crash:
  - Open a terminal and do "journalctl -f"
  - Then open your presentation in impress and see it crash after ~2 min
  - go back to your terminal and copy/paste the logs generated into the
description (and be sure to say in the bug description that this is what you
did)

2020-12-02 Thread Heather Ellsworth
KGIII,Thanks to your very clear steps I've reproduced this on hirsute
Lubuntu.

Further testing suggests that the crash will occur if at least one
Libreoffice application is opened when Impress is opened AND then you
immediately open Libreoffice Math and then go back and select the vivid
theme.

While I agree we have a bug here, it is a super corner case to hit.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1906684] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.7 for Focal

2020-12-03 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Hi Amr, the reason we haven't pushed through a 6.4.7 SRU for focal is
because there was an issue with 6.4.6 that led to an upstream bug:

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137139

Unfortunately a reproducer has not yet been identified. But there are
still many crashes on Kubuntu being anonymously reported as the 6.4.6
failure. Because of these anonymous crash reports, the release team
stopped the phased roll out of 6.4.6 to focal systems. More on that
phased rollout process:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Phasing

So because there is not really a path to a resolution to the 6.4.6
issue, it is reasonable to assume that the release team would not accept
6.4.7.

Title:
  [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.7 for Focal

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  * LibreOffice 6.4.7 is in its seventh bug-fix release of the 6.4
branch. Version 6.4.6 is currently in focal.

For a list of fixed bugs compared to 6.4.6 see the list of bugs fixed in the
two release candidates:
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.7/RC1
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.7/RC2
  (that's a total of 72 bugs)

  * A minor release with a total of 72 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bug-fix-
only release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

  * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
  in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1905422] Re: CoinMP Solver not Available, option requires coinmp to be promoted

2020-12-03 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Well I removed the "ENABLE_COINMP := n" from the "ifeq "$(DEB_VENDOR)"
"Ubuntu"" block and launched an amd64 build and it failed with:

dpkg-shlibdeps: error: no dependency information found for
/<>/debian/libreoffice-
core/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/libCoinMP.so.1 (used by debian
/libreoffice-calc/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/libsolverlo.so)

The PPA where this built:
https://launchpad.net/~hellsworth/+archive/ubuntu/lo-coinmp

The full PPA build log is here:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/509651435/buildlog_ubuntu-hirsute-amd64.libreoffice_1%3A7.0.3-0ubuntu3_BUILDING.txt.gz

It looks like this libCoinMP.so.1 is provided by the coinor-libcoinmp1v5
package. I can try to add this as a depends, rebuild, and see if we get
further.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1785262] Re: arm64 autopkgtests are flaky

2020-12-08 Thread Heather Ellsworth
After some more investigation, here are the main points that make this issue a
tricky one to debug:
1. The test failure is not isolated. While the uicheck-sw test is the culprit,
it is just an umbrella for many other tests. And it's those smaller tests that
the failure occurs all over. This makes it hard to just "fix the tests".
2. I have not been able to reproduce this locally on a rpi4. Laney pointed out
that perhaps having multiple containers running the same test might generate
the load needed (assuming that plays a key role in the failures seen on LP) and
I'll certainly give this a shot.
3. Currently if you look at the recent hirsute armhf and arm64 LO test results,
you'll see that the rate of failure is way down (about 1/10 times). But just a
couple of weeks ago the failure rate was much higher. This suggests that it's
load on the nodes causing the problem because that's when the infra was quite
busy.
4. Marking the test simply as "flaky" won't work because it's actually
autopkgtest killing the process

The approach going forward is to try and be clever about letting this
uicheck-sw test timeout and not be considered a failure:
https://git.launchpad.net/~hellsworth/+git/libreoffice/commit/?h=ubuntu-hirsute-7.0-workaround-arm-flakiness&id=63170c4e1824dcee45b670738ff47a6174a991a8

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1909012] Re: my display are disappeared with I used libreoffice or other software

2021-01-05 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Thanks for your bug report that helps make Ubuntu better!

Can you trigger the problem in a reproducible manner on your system?
How do you recover your system? Do you need to restart to get your displays
back?

If you can reproduce the issue, can you please provide the system logs?
There are a couple of methods to grab them but I'd recommend opening a
terminal and watching the logs when you trigger the failure, then paste
them here:

In a terminal, start watching logs
$ sudo journalctl -f

Trigger the failure and copy/paste the logs here or in a text file and
upload it to this bug.

Title:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1894224] Re: LO not built consistently with the same optimization flags

2020-09-04 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Thanks for the patch! I was looking at it and noticed that just a few
lines from the bottom there's this:

+export DEB_CFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP DEB_CXXFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP
+export DEB_CFLAGS_MAINT_PREPEND DEB_CXXFLAGS_MAINT_PREPEND
+export DEB_CFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP DEB_CXXFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP

Is that second +export DEB_CFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP DEB_CXXFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP
necessary for some reason?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1892783] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.6 for focal

2020-09-11 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Upgraded libreoffice from 1:6.4.5-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 to
1:6.4.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 from focal-proposed in a clean and up-to-date
focal amd64 VM, and successfully ran test plan at

Title:
  [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.6 for focal

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in libreoffice source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 6.4.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 6.4 line. Version
6.4.5 is currently in focal.
For a list of fixed bugs compared to 6.4.5 see the list of bugs fixed in
the two release candidates:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.5/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.5/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs
 (that's a total of 106 bugs)

   * A minor release with a total of 106 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

Title:
Firebird embedded database is not selectable in database creation
  wizard

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Support for Base files using embedded Firebird RDBMS became non
experimental from Libreoffice 6.2 release, but in Ubuntu 20.04
(Libreoffice 6.4) you must enable experimental feature to create
embedded firebird database. Otherwise it is possible to select only
the embedded HSQLDB database, (even if the sdbc-hsqldb drivers are not
  installed by default).

Bug description:

respect the unix/linux/x11 tradition where middle click was always
  meant for x-clipboard pasting.

Title:
  [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.6 for focal

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 6.4.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 6.4 line. Version
6.4.5 is currently in focal.
For a list of fixed bugs compared to 6.4.5 see the list of bugs fixed in
the two release candidates:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.5/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.5/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs
 (that's a total of 106 bugs)

   * A minor release with a total of 106 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1892783] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.6 for focal

2020-09-22 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Here is the upstream build that corresponds to the topmost commit included in
6.4.6:
https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_64/1652/

I found this by finding the topmost merge on the libreoffice-6-4-6 branch
(which is where this package would have been built from):
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/100055

And then tracing back to the ci job. I can add this in future
libreoffice SRU descriptions as well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1897429] Re: package libreoffice-common 1:6.4.2-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed

2020-09-28 Thread Heather Ellsworth
I'm not sure what happened here.. Were you at 6.4.2 on a focal system
trying to update your system when you hit this error? 6.4.2 is a few
versions old and as you might imagine it's not feasble to test all
upgrade paths. Perhaps a reinstall of the package would fix the issue.
Could you please try to uninstall libreoffice and reinstall it?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1897644] [NEW] gengal missing from libreoffice-dev in 7.X

2020-09-28 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1897632] Re: Can't see fully Print Dialogue Box in Libre Office

2020-09-29 Thread Heather Ellsworth
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1883886 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883886

Dave, it looks like upstream is working on this actively (and it is a
duplicate of the bug you pointed out so thank you). The only ways to
really work around it are to either lower the font scale factor or to
keep your large font but just hit enter to print with the print dialog
up. Sorry those aren't ideal but the upstream work is promising. Good
luck!

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1883886
Print dialogue's height in Libreoffice Writer is too high to see and click
buttons.

In LibreOffice Version: 6.4.6.2 Build ID: 1:6.4.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1892635] Re: mysql-direct-connector not working

2020-09-30 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Hmm I read through the comment history in the upstream bug you pointed
to and I'm not convinced it is a problem in Ubuntu either because of the
final two comments. Alex set it up in Linux Mint (which a previous
comment correctly pointed out that it pulls the relevant packages from
Ubuntu) and it worked just fine.

Could you try some of the suggestions the upstream developers
recommended?

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
After upgrading to (k)ubuntu 20.04.1, both with LibreOffice 6.4. and
LibreOffice 7, mysql direct connector doesn't work any more (unlike in
(k)ubuntu 18.04 and LO 6.0).
Mysql (mariadb, installed with lampp) is perfectly working in browsers: I
can see php+mysql pages in localhost, without any problem.
But if I try to open a database odb connected with mysql I get an error
message
  [code]
  Code:

  SQL Status: HY000
  Error code: 2003
Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (111)
/build/libreoffice-ron9it/libreoffice-7.0.0~rc3/connectivity/source/drivers/mysqlc/mysqlc_general.cxx:119
  [/code]
I believe that is a problem of mysql-connector provided with Ubuntu, in
the past so useful (because LO extension are not working).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1897784]

2020-09-30 Thread Heather Ellsworth
It's hard to pin down what other new packages could have made it onto
the users system because of the way Ubuntu rolls out releases in a
"phased" manner:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Phasing

This is happening simultaneously for all sorts of packages too, at
various stages in the phasing process. So unfortunately, there's no way
to really get a sense of other new packages that might be causing the
issue.

Also, when I installed Writer alone through Synaptic, without any

it looks hideous, so that is not an ideal solution. Removing user

  My desktop usage pattern:

  * MATE desktop
  * 4-desktop setting (standard default MATE when shipped)
  * GNUCASH
  * about 3 windows of terminal (each about 5-10 tabs)
  * XPRA running Firefox web browser (to isolate web browser pixmap memory
usage, if that was the culprit)
  * LibreOffice (several windows open at any time)
  * using "redshift" to change the desktop color to red at night

I have never seen this before using Ubuntu 20.04 on this machine.
Before, when I was running Debian 8, I could run this machine for months
literally without Xorg memory bloating rapidly like this (but then I was using
xfce instead of MATE).
I viewed the output of xrestop, the pixmap memory usage is dominated by marco
and wnck-applet:

  xrestop - Display: localhost

Can you tell me a little more..
* Does Libreoffice display this lag immediately or does it take some time of
the app running before it becomes unusably slow?
* When did this problem start?
* Does this happen on an empty document/spreadsheet or does can you point to an
example problematic document?

Was this system installed as a 20.04 and then you just did an apt update and
upgrade?
It sounds like your system is in a funky state with these libreoffice packages
so to workaround it, try remove all libreoffice debs and reinstalling them with:

$ sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice*
$ sudo apt install libreoffice

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1892783] [NEW] [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.6 for focal

2020-08-24 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * LibreOffice 6.4.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 6.4 line. Version
6.4.5 is currently in focal.
For a list of fixed bugs compared to 6.4.5 see the list of bugs fixed in the
two release candidates:
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.5/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.5/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs
   (that's a total of 106 bugs)

 * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

 * A minor release with a total of 106 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
features were removed.

 * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described

Title:
  [SRU] libreoffice 6.4.6 for focal

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 6.4.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 6.4 line. Version
6.4.5 is currently in focal.
For a list of fixed bugs compared to 6.4.5 see the list of bugs fixed in
the two release candidates:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.5/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/6.4.5/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs
 (that's a total of 106 bugs)

   * A minor release with a total of 106 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1877970] Re: Alt-X keyboard shortcut not defined in LibreOffice 6.4

2020-05-20 Thread Heather Ellsworth
I've verified that the Alt+X behavior is broken in
6.4.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 that is currently in the focal archive. And since
I was testing 6.4.4~rc2-0ubuntu1~ppa1 to prepare for the 6.4.4 release,
I went ahead and was able to easily check that indeed the Alt-X behavior
works in 6.4.4. So stand by for the 6.4.4 release to get this fix.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1880416] Re: libreoffice symbol bars/toolbars load and react with very high latency

2020-05-26 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Thank you for your bug report!

Well we could consider re-adding the SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen back (like
this [0]) but there would be significant testing required on the more
common graphics systems, like AMD Radeon and Intel, to make sure this
change doesn't affect the performance on those systems.

It seems the AMD Picasso graphics are quite new [1] so this is something
that should be fixed eventually but is not a high priority.

Bug description:
Latency disappears when setting envirionment variable SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN to
'gen'
(This overrides the autodetect of libreoffice for which desktop the interface
has to be renderd and switch to gerneric)

Using Gnome, default for this variable im my case is 'gtk3':
With default SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3 menu bar and toolbars will need more than
10 Seconds to be displayed after application startup - while editor-window is
displayed immediately.

While running the application latency between clicking an item and reaction
is also abnormal high.
As example: Clicking "Save as ..." results in waiting for some seconds until
the "Save as ..."-dialog appears.

This bug does not appear with my systems using intel-igpu. It only
affects the machine with amd picasso-igpu

  instead

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
How to see the problem (on xubuntu 20.04, upgraded from 19.10):

  * LibreOffice installed, including (at first) the help packages
libreoffice-help-en-us, libreoffice-help-en-gb, and libreoffice-help-de,
running XFCE4 in a German localization setting.
  * Run LOWriter
  * Click on Help -> LibreOffice Help ... (or press F1)
  * Help window opens, but instead of showing the German language help, it
claims there are access right problems preventing it of opening some object.

After a quick search on the web I tried purging libreoffice-help-en-
us, libreoffice-help-en-gb, but this didn't end the problem.

  Any suggestions?

  Kind regards

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1877711] Re: Libreoffice snap can read but not save files over SSH

2020-05-26 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Trying to reproduce the issue, here are my findings:

I have two focal systems on the same network: a host and a vm. The host
has a test.odt file and the vm has the host's ip added to nautilus and
can see the host's files (including test.odt). I double click on the
test.odt icon which opens up libreoffice writer as expected but I have
an error message saying that the file is locked for editing (see
attached screenshot), even though the test.odt file is not open on the
host.

A workaround is to open a copy of the document, make edits, save it
locally and then in nautilus on the vm you can move the file to the
remote system to overwrite the file.

The snap should however be able to save remote files directly.
