Re #713 I tried your fix too, but with no luck. Crashed again several times today. This time I could make note of the time and find the log entries. If you have this bug, you are in luck, just updating your kernel to 3.4 will fix it. If that doesn't work, then you do not have this bug. You have something else. A google search for ubuntu 12.04 freezes frequently produces About 792,000 results (0.16 seconds) . I opened a bug report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1154006. If you have the exact same symptoms as I do, and have also attempted to debug it as I have, consider adding yourself to that bug report. If however, you are able to do anything with the keyboard or mouse, or if the screen continues to update, then it is clearly not the same issue, so please in that case do not add yourself. Judging from the thread, it's marked as won't fix because it is not a single bug we're all complaining about, but a complex interaction of several bugs. Many people are complaining about completely different symptoms, all with a freeze, but even the character of the freeze is different from case to case. I have marked this bug as not affecting me and filed a bug report detailing my exact symptoms. Update: 5/21/2012 Updating the kernel to 3.3.6 as suggested by Michael in #91, the system seems stable, no freezes yet in 5-6 hrs of using and watching videos for couple of hrs. Original description: I recently installed newly released ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit version on my desktop. And it is frequently freezing, for the first few hours it ran smoothly and when I started watching videos it started freezing randomly. I have to use hard restart every time. Initially it was only during videos but now even during normal browsing it is freezing. I am using on board graphics and do not have any graphics card installed. Can someone please help me here, I really love the new looks of 12.04 and it bugs me not being able to use :( Below is my hardware configuration: Processor: Intel CORE i3 processor (2nd generation) Board: Intel® Desktop Board DH67BL Ram: 4GB Graphics: On board HDD: 500 GB Please let me know if you need more information, or any specific logs I can capture (and how). Thanks to the fix, functionally nothing is wrong, but I think it's displaying a dull icon where the brighter version is appropriate. The same icon shows for all themes I have installed except Ubuntu-mono-dark, which shows up nice and bright. I have screenshots. Works fine with podcasts either enabled or disabled, but with podcasts enabled, can't subscribe to any podcasts.
