[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1840066] [NEW] DELL DA300 adaptor's Ethernet port not working after update

2019-08-13 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
Public bug reported:

DELL DA300 adapter's Ethernet port stopped working after recent update.
Whenever the cable is plugged in to the adapter, network manager would
show the cable connecting icon and immediately drop the connection. I am
able to get Ethernet connection through the DA300 with another Ethernet-
USBc adapter by plugging the cable to the adaptor and use DA300's USBc
port though.

DELL DA300 adaptor's Ethernet port not working after update

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
DELL DA300 adapter's Ethernet port stopped working after recent update.
Whenever the cable is plugged in to the adapter, network manager would show the
cable connecting icon and immediately drop the connection. I am able to get
Ethernet connection through the DA300 with another Ethernet-USBc adapter by
plugging the cable to the adaptor and use DA300's USBc port though.

Title:
DELL DA300 adaptor's Ethernet port not working after update

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
DELL DA300 adapter's Ethernet port stopped working after recent update.
Whenever the cable is plugged in to the adapter, network manager would show the
cable connecting icon and immediately drop the connection. I am able to get
Ethernet connection through the DA300 with another Ethernet-USBc adapter by
plugging the cable to the adaptor and use DA300's USBc port though.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1840693] [NEW] Can't change input method (English->gcin Chinese) in LibreOffice

2019-08-19 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I can't change input method (English->gcin Chinese) in LibreOffice. I'm
on LibreOffice 6.3. I have tried using hotkey and clicking on icons to
change, neither worked. One separated but possibly relevant issue I am
also having now: Over the past year, there's been a few times when I
updated, Firefox would also have trouble changing input method, but
instead of completely unable to change, I found out I could still change
input method by hitting the hotkey "twice" & "fast" (slowly wouldn't
work). Also for some(?) browser-based program like Jupyter Notebook, Alt
would trigger browser behaviour first and ignored Jupyter's Alt
function. I didn't realize so also couldn't confirm this is completely
correlated with my LibreOffice input switching issue, but I figure it
might still be some clue. Thank you.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1840693] Re: [snap] Can't change input method (English->gcin Chinese) in LibreOffice

2019-08-20 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
These are all I've got from snap list:

canonical-livepatch, core, core18, gnome-3-26-1604, gnome-3-28-1804,
gnome-calculator, gnome-characters, gnome-logs, gnome-system-monitor,
gtk-common-themes, libreoffice, pycharm-community, slack, spotify

I tried to turn on/off gcin by Crtl+space in gnome-calculator, gnome-
characters, gnome-logs, gnome-system-monitor, libreoffice, pycharm-
community, slack, spotify. Only pycharm responded to the command. In
most gnome- programs, I had to call out search so I can have a place to
type, but none of them responded to the change of type method anyway.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1840064] Re: need to click shortcut twice to switch input method on Firefox

2019-08-28 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
You would need to go to "Language Support" and change "Keyboard input
method system" to gcin and also change to gcin in "Input Method." I
think after that you should be able to switch input method by
Ctrl+Space. When you type, little characters should pop out besides your
cursor, and that should be sufficient as a check if gcin works.

Also I just found out clicking Ctrl+Space once to switch to gcin works
in url bar and search bar. The needs to click twice quickly thing only
only applies to webpage part. Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1840064] Re: need to click shortcut twice to switch input method on Firefox

2019-08-27 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
Hi Olivier,

I got these lines from apt list --installed|grep fire:

firefox/bionic-updates,bionic-security,now 68.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 amd64
[installed]
firefox-locale-en/bionic-updates,bionic-security,now
68.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 amd64 [installed]
firefox-locale-zh-hant/bionic-updates,bionic-security,now
68.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 amd64 [installed]

Didn't see firefox from snap list. Just checked and gedit isn't
affected. Thank you!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1843817] [NEW] Weird behavior of chaning input method on webpages

2019-09-12 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
Public bug reported:

I'm finding a weird behaviour of changing input method "only on

doesn't exist. I am using gcin 2.8.9 and is switching between English

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1843817] Re: Weird behavior of chaning input method on webpages

2019-10-07 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
I've downgraded to 2.8.5+dfsg1-4build4, and it doesn't solve the problem
nor change the syndrome. My gcin 2.8.9 came from simply "sudo apt
install gcin" from unknow/whatever default repository. Sorry this is
probably not the most helpful information, and thanks for the help!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1843817] Re: Changing input method on webpages requires pressing twice the hotkey

2019-10-09 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
Crtl+Space behaves normally on Chrome.

Also I've finally found a friend willing to test it for me. He runs
16.04LTS/gcin2.8.4/firefox69.01, and there's no issue at all. Not sure
how much this helps though as mine was also working before. Sorry I
can't find other Ubuntu/firefox user friends who speak the language and
use gcin. Thank.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1843817] Re: Changing input method on webpages requires pressing twice the hotkey

2019-10-08 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
I have asked one of my friend for help and am waiting for him to
respond. In the meantime, I found I can use other gcin hotkeys normally,
e.g. changing half/full width, switching through different
languages,...etc, without the need of clicking twice but only not the
ctrl+space for switching between En and other gcin languages (in my
case, Mandarin). I suppose this is a useful clue that points to gcin as
the problem?

change if my courser is in text boxes "on the page." If the courser is
in URL bar or search bar or anywhere firebox window itself, this
phenomenon doesn't exist. I am using gcin 2.8.9 and is switching
between English and traditional Chinese. Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1884453] [NEW] Firefox, input-language-changing shortcut issue

2020-06-21 Thread Yen-Yung Chang
Public bug reported:

(First of all, I believe I reported a few times the similar issue
before, but I couldn't find the old posts, so apologize if people find
this repeating.)

The bug is that I need to hit input-language-changing shortcut
(ctrl+space) "twice" and "quickly" to trigger the change in boxes on
webpages. I am using GCIN 2.9.0. There's no problem for changing input
in URL or search boxes on the Firefox UI frame that are outside the
webpages; I can hit ctrl+space once and it works. On the webpages, not
just that I need to hit the shortcut twice, but the hits need to be
sufficiently back-to-back, like less than a second. This issue also
doesn't exist in Chrome.

Thank you very much for the help!
