I agree with Nick's sentiment. 1.6.0 was feature complete, 1.6.1 is then subtractive but otherwise leans on all the testing conducted previously. We truly want to get 1.7.0 and timedlock mutex API's in users hands a bit later this summer or early fall, so let's get this into trunk and 1.7.x and see what breaks. I'm happy to commit the patch if you aren't yet an APR committer.
