Camel-Spring-Boot too for 3.x, while for 4.x only Camel-Spring-Boot is
  synchronized.

  patch releases 4.4.1 and 4.4.2
- We are working torward our next LTS release 4.8.0, we released two
  development releases 4.5.0 and 4.6.0
- We continued the release train for 3.22.x LTS
- The 3.22.x release train is the LTS for 3.x
- The situation is really healthy and the community is super. We are
introducing many new features and working on engaging the community more.

Apache Camel K:
- For Camel K we released a 2.3.0, 2.3.1 and 2.3.2 (on vote) with a lot of
  good stuff.

an important building block for starting with routes
- We introduced a lot of new Kamelets and we are improving the documentation
by focusing on much more examples

Apache Camel Quarkus:

with
  multiple releases

- 339 issues opened on GitHub, past quarter (11% increase) and 339 issues
closed on GitHub, past quarter (12% increase): Some of the subproject are

increase
in Camel K and Camel Quarkus.
- 4248 commits in the past quarter (17% decrease) and 115 code contributors
in
the past quarter (10% increase): We are consolidating the codebase and

explains the decrease in commits and we are seeing increase in terms of
  contributors
- 1706 PRs opened on GitHub, past quarter (5% decrease) and 1699 PRs closed
on
GitHub, past quarter (6% decrease): Here we are more or less in line with

After the 4.4.2 release, we could just as well do a patch release for 4.0.5.
We have upgraded to the latest spring boot and the branch is also ready for
cutting a release.

Draft Camel Board Report for March 2024

2024-03-07 Thread Andrea Cosentino
Hello all,

I prepare the draft for March 2024, I'm planning to submit this afternoon
to avoid any delay. Feedback is welcome.

## Description:
The mission of Apache Camel is the creation and maintenance of an
open-source
integration framework based on known Enterprise Integration Patterns.

## Project Status:
Current project status: Ongoing with high activity
Issues for the board: [There
are no issues requiring board attention at this time.

## Membership Data:
Apache Camel was founded 2008-12-17 (15 years ago)
There are currently 92 committers and 45 PMC members in this project.
The Committer-to-PMC ratio is roughly 2:1.

Community changes, past quarter:
- No new PMC members. Last addition was Andrea Tarocchi on 2023-09-11.
- Gaelle Fournier was added as committer on 2024-03-06

## Project Activity:

Apache Camel:
- We released Camel 3.21.4
- We released Camel 3.22.0
- We released Camel 3.22.1
- We released Camel 4.0.4
- We released Camel 4.3.0
- We released Camel 4.4.0
- Note: Camel releases have synchronized releases of Camel-Karaf and
Camel-Spring-Boot too for 3.x, while for 4.x only Camel-Spring-Boot is
  synchronized.
- The 4.4.x release is our LTS release train and we are already working on
4.4.1 and next development release 4.5.0
- We continued the release train for 3.21.x LTS
- The 3.22.x release train is another LTS we are supporting
- The situation is really healthy and the community is super. We are
introducing many new features and working on engaging the community more.

Apache Camel K:
- For Camel K we released a 2.2.0 version with a lot of good stuff.
- For Camel-K-runtime we released 3.2.3 and 3.6.0, both the releases were on
vote at the time of writing of the last report.
- Camel K is in good shape and the community is expading with new
contributors
  and many new good idea.

Apache Camel Kamelets:
- We released Camel Kamelets 4.0.3
- We released Camel Kamelets 4.4.0
- The 4.4.0 release is matching the LTS release from Camel core and it's an
important building block for starting with routes
- We introduced a lot of new Kamelets and we are improving the documentation

Apache Camel Quarkus:
- The Camel-Quarkus work is going ahead following the main camel releases
with
  multiple releases
- We released Camel-quarkus 3.7.0
- We released Camel-quarkus 3.8.0
- The 3.8.0 release is matching the 4.4.0 release from Camel core and it
will
  be an LTS
- A lot of work has been done on testing side and we are working on
supporting
  more extensions

Apache Camel-Karavan:
- Camel-Karavan is improving and the community around the project is
increasing in number of features and new issues reporting
- We released the 4.3.0
- We released the 4.3.1
- We released also the 4.4.0 version matching the LTS version from Camel
core

Camel-Kafka-Connector:
- Camel Kafka Connector release based on Camel 4.0.3 has been released.
- We plan to release a 4.4.0 to match the LTS release from camel core
- The community is active and we receive a lot of feedback and requests

Overall:
- The Camel project and all the subprojects are in a really good shape and
all
of them are growing in terms of community involvement.

## Community Health:
- 303 issues opened on GitHub, past quarter (8% decrease) and 277 issues
closed on GitHub, past quarter (18% decrease): Some of the subproject are
using github issues, but Camel core is still on JIRA. We focused mostly on
the LTS 4.4.x and some of the Github Issues based projects were focused on
backlog activities and alignments, like for example Camel K.
- 4835 commits in the past quarter (2% decrease) and 103 code contributors
in
the past quarter (13% decrease): We are more or less in line with the last
quarter, we were a lot focused on more features for 4.4.x and the number
of
code contributors is justified by the fact we were stabilizing the
codebase.
- 1714 PRs opened on GitHub, past quarter (6% decrease) and 1726 PRs closed
on
GitHub, past quarter (5% decrease): Here we are more or less in line with
the last quarter. The situation is really good and we are observing more
  engagement in open PRs.
- dev@camel.apache.org had a 21% decrease in traffic in the past quarter
(330
emails compared to 416): There was a spike in December and now we are back
at usual level. We are discussing some release scheduling in dev ML and we
noticed many developers prefer to discuss directly in Zulip.
- iss...@camel.apache.org had a 18% decrease in traffic in the past quarter
(2423 emails compared to 2935): We were focusing on backlog and the clean
up
done in the last quarter justify the decrease.
- us...@camel.apache.org had a 18% decrease in traffic in the past quarter
(202 emails compared to 245): Users are starting to move and ask questions
on Zulip, like the discussion for development.
- Jira Activity: The number doesn't seem to be accurate in the statistics
page. It reports 0 issues opened and 0 closed. Closing the subscriptions
to
  Apache JIRA

Re: Excessive use on the "git-websites" runners?

I don't think it would work on our website, but Zoran could have more
information about this.

What we could do, it's maybe limit the number of builds on git-websites
nodes concurrently.

Re: Excessive use on the "git-websites" runners?

2024-02-19 Thread Andrea Cosentino
I think Zoran Regvart is able to give more advice on this, but yes, the
build should be on git-websites labeled nodes.

But again, this is a really a particular case: there were 3 CVEs and two
blog posts all in once.

Also, when a PR is merged, the website build starts immediately and it
takes a while.

Usually there is not that much activities. There were 3 PRs related to cves
and some related to the last release done during the weekend. So this
should be just a temporary saturation. We don't have other way of
publishing the website except using that mechanism.

I just aligned the Google BOMs to the same versions matrix.

I think we are good to go from my side.

I want to add some documentation about sessionToken on AWS, but this can be
done later too.

So green light from me.

We can try that, but before that we need to add the SBOM generation and
pubblication.

I'll do that next week

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Camel 4.3.0

2023-12-17 Thread Andrea Cosentino
Since this is not an LTS but just a development version I don't see a good
reason to veto the release.

If you vote -1 with binding vote we'll have to delete the release. If it
was an LTS I would agree with you, but there is no reason for deleting the
release for a single component.

Draft Camel Board Report for December 2023

2023-12-12 Thread Andrea Cosentino
Hello all,

I prepare the draft for Decmeber 2023, I'm planning to submit this
afternoon. Feedback is welcome.

The automatic reminder about preparing the report didn't get out this
month, so I had to write the report faster than usual.

## Description:
The mission of Apache Camel is the creation and maintenance of an
open-source
integration framework based on known Enterprise Integration Patterns.

## Project Status:
Current project status: Ongoing with high activity
Issues for the board: There
are no issues requiring board attention at this time.

## Membership Data:
Apache Camel was founded 2008-12-17 (15 years ago)
There are currently 91 committers and 45 PMC members in this project.
The Committer-to-PMC ratio is roughly 2:1.

Community changes, past quarter:
- No new PMC members. Last addition was Andrea Tarocchi on 2023-09-11.
- Aurélien Pupier was added as committer on 2023-11-13
- Jono Morris was added as committer on 2023-11-04
- Vignesh Nayak Manel was added as committer on 2023-09-12

## Project Activity:

Apache Camel:
- We released Camel 3.14.10
- We released Camel 3.20.7
- We released Camel 3.20.8
- We are about to release 3.20.9 at the time of writing (on vote)
- We released Camel 3.21.1
- We released Camel 3.21.2
- We are about to release 3.21.3 at the time of writing (on vote)
- We released Camel 4.0.1
- We released Camel 4.0.2
- We released Camel 4.0.3
- We released Camel 4.1.0
- We released Camel 4.2.0
- We are about to release 4.3.0 at the time of writing (on vote)
- Note: Camel releases have synchronized releases of Camel-Karaf and
Camel-Spring-Boot too for 3.x, while for 4.x only Camel-Spring-Boot is
  synchronized.
- The next Camel 4.x LTS release will be 4.4.0 and we're working on that.
- We continued the release train for 3.20.x LTS, and we are about to release
the last 3.20.x release before the EOL.
- We are still supporting Camel 3.14.x, an LTS train. The release 3.14.10
will
be the last one before EOL.
- We continued the release train for 3.21.x LTS
- We are working on having also a 3.22.x LTS release in the near future
- The situation is really healthy and the community is super. We are doing a
lot of improvements and we are introducing new features.

Apache Camel K:
- For Camel K we released a really important 2.1.0 and a 2.0.1 release with
a
lot of good work from community. It has no coupled dependency from the
runtime and its release cycle will be decoupled from the core/runtime
  release cycle.
- Camel K Runtime dependency is now matching the release cycle with Camel
  Quarkus.
- For Camel-K-runtime we released 3.2.0
- At the time of writing two releases are on vote too 3.2.3 and 3.6.0
- Camel K is in good shape and we are doing the best we can to improve the
  developer experience.

Apache Camel Kamelets:
- We released Camel Kamelets 4.0.0
- We released Camel Kamelets 4.0.1
- We released Camel Kamelets 4.1.0
- We released Camel Kamelets 4.2.0
- We are working on releasing 4.3.0
- Camel-Kamelets is not only related to camel k anymore so it could be used
  with all the Camel's flavours
- We are improving the overall experience and cleaning up the codebase to
make
  Kamelets runtime agnostic

Apache Camel Quarkus:
- The Camel-Quarkus work is going ahead following the main camel releases
with
  multiple releases
- We released Camel-quarkus 2.16.0
- We released Camel-quarkus 3.2.1
- We released Camel-quarkus 3.2.2
- We released Camel-quarkus 3.2.3
- We released Camel-quarkus 3.4.0
- We released Camel-quarkus 3.5.0
- We released Camel-quarkus 3.6.0
- The health of the project is really good and we are receiving a lot of
  positive feedback and contribution

Camel-Karavan:
- Camel-Karavan is improving and more and more contributors are continuing
to
  help.
- We released the 4.0.0 version matching the LTS release
- We released also the 4.1.0 version
- The work is going really well and the community is starting to give
  feedback.

Camel-Kafka-Connector:
- Camel Kafka Connector release based on Camel 4.0.0 has been released.
- We have a lot of feedback and issues opened and we are working on the
  backlog
- We plan to release a new 4.3.0 release or at most we'll align to the 4.4.0

Overall:
- The Camel project and all the subprojects are in good shape and all of
them
are growing in terms of community involvement.

## Community Health:
- 313 issues opened on GitHub, past quarter (3% decrease) and 307 issues
closed on GitHub, past quarter (8% decrease): Some of the subproject are
using github issues, but Camel core is still on JIRA. We focused mostly on
the LTS 4.4.x and some of the Github Issues based projects were focused on
  backlog activities and alignments.
- 4598 commits in the past quarter (15% decrease) and 119 code contributors
in
the past quarter (9% decrease):The camel core team is focusing on Camel
4.4.x. We saw a good number of contributions from new contributors in
subprojects and main Camel. The number of commits is related also to the

Hi guys,

I started to completely refactore camel-karaf:

https://github.com/jbonofre/camel-karaf/tree/REFACTORE

As already discussed, this refactoring:
0. Cleanup/cleaners camel-karaf modules layout
1. Wrap the Camel modules (core, components, ...) as bundles and
define features (we have the control here of what we want to ship
private or import, I'm in favor of import when possible, fallback to
private when needed)
2. It uses the JakartaEE namespaces (and defines the corresponding
features waiting for Karaf to provide it)
3. camel-core-osgi is now using Camel 4.x
4. I'm working on camel-blueprint now, checking if I need a new Aries
Blueprint release updated to Jakarta JAXB (or shade/relocate).

I'm still working on it (including this weekend) to have a first fully
working version.
I will create a PR as soon as I make sensitive tests.

Comments and questions are welcome :)

Thanks,
Regards
JB
