 * the first Primate GA targetted wrt summer LTS 2020 (~H2 2019), but

Hi Fariboz,

We'd definitely like to add that functionality, but it's going to be a fairly
big lift, as the libxml configs are currently built as a single block. A large

This is definitely something we have on our list and hopefully we can starting

You can also configure event bus (Kafka perhaps) and use that to get events.

Alternately you can also use below API -

(local)  > list events type="MAINT.PREPARE" listall=true
{
  "count": 6,
  "event": [
{
  "account": "system",
  "created": "2019-08-08T17:06:23+0530",

  "id": "41c27f1b-ecbf-4e77-8489-6a5d0456",
  "level": "INFO",

The part in red with completed state is published when maintenance mode is
completed. Ofcourse filter for the host id you want to track.

Re: Querying async job result

2019-08-08 Thread Anurag Awasthi
Hi Rakesh,

Andrija is correct. Internally, all the API call does is move the host to a
different state. Periodically (ping.interval duration apart) MS would attempt
migration of VMs. Once the host has zero running VMs and no VM in failure/error
state it would be marked in maintenance mode.

Regarding your 2nd question - how to track if maintenance state, one option is
that you query DB to see the state. The other option could be to see on event
bus for "MAINT.PREPARE" in completed state. I haven't seen this in practice but
perhaps you can dig in a bit to explore.

On 8/8/19, 3:17 PM, "Andrija Panic" wrote:

Rakesh,

I'm not quite sure if this is a bug/misbehaviour, but it is indeed a
confusing one.

When you ask a host to go to maintenance mode, , you are using
prepareHostForMaintenance as you said, and this will trigger the host to go
into the "PrepareForMaintenance" state... so the job does indeed completes
within 2-3sec usually, as you can actually see in the GUI, after a 2-3 secs
of spinning circle and confirmation that it has been done.

Now, after the host has reached the PrepareForMaintenance state, ACS will
migrate away VMs, and I can only assume that the mgmt server will mark it
as in "Maintenance" state once it has zero VMs.
So you can query for the status of the host for the "resourcestate" and
observe when it goes into "Maintenance" state.

Hi Rakesh,

You seem to be doing the right thing. I think what you have encoutered is a bug
in prepareForMaintenance API. The host tends to be stuck in that state in some
scenarios. Perhaps, when a VM enters an error state. I would advise canceling
maintenance mode and examining what states the VMs are in. Ensure there are no
unexpected errors on VMs, clean them up manually if needed. Then retry prepare
for maintenance mode.

There is an open PR for fixing this issue as well -
https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/3425 . While this got sidetracked as
we worked on 4.13.0, this will make it in 4.13.1.

Hello

I want to know what is the best way to query the async job result using
queryAsyncJobResult api. According to the documentation in
http://docs.cloudstack.apache.org/projects/archived-cloudstack-getting-started/en/latest/dev.html
,
the "jobstatus" of 1 means the command completed but im facing an issue
where even though the command is still running, the "jobstatus" is always 1.

Im running "prepareHostForMaintenance" command which returns the jobid.
When I run queryAsyncJobResult for this jobid, the jobstatus will always be
1 even though the hypervisor is still not in maintenance mode.

So can anyone tell me what is the best way to check if the hypervisor is in
maintenance mode or not? Im using 4.11 version

Below are the result which I get

"resourcestate": "PrepareForMaintenance",
"jobresultcode": 0,
  "jobresulttype": "object",
  "jobstatus": 1,

inaugural list of Best Business Tools in the 'Cloud Services' category.
https://www.newsweek.com/best-business-tools-2019/cloud-services

A quick screen grab of the certificate can be found here:

The recognition was for:
- Willingness to recommend the brand to colleagues
- Trustworthiness
- Reliability
- Fulfilment of service promise
- Continuous improvement
- Security

Well done everyone, this is a great community achievement and shows that not
only is CloudStack great, but the world is starting to take notice of it too!

We'll upload the a good copy of the certificate to the ACS website and a bit of

Pavn is right. The "StatsCollector.VmStatsCollector" class is executed as a

Hi Ng'ang'a Kioi,

Stats are collected at very first time, When a host [KVM] is on-boarded to
Cloud stack. There after for every vm resource deployment done on the on-boarded

KVM host , the stats will get updated in cloud stack DB by Management Server
after deducing the utilised resource amount from the host stats.

if any VM is launched from out of the cloud stack scope, i.e with the help of
virt-manager, this cannot be considered by Management Server

stats service.

@Dev,

This is based on my understanding , correct me if i am wrong.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to look at how cloudstack gathers VM statistics and particularly
memory stats.
Looking at the list virtualmachines api, the following stats are returned
for a sample VM
"memory": 1024,
"memoryintfreekbs": 1251804,
"memorykbs": 1048576,
"memorytargetkbs": 1048576,

Based on the api docs
memory- the memory allocated for the virtual machine
memoryintfreekbs- the internal memory thats free in vm
memorykbs- the memory used by the vm
memorytargetkbs- the target memory in vm

As indicated, memorykbs and memorytargetkbs cannot have the same values.

Looking at the codebase, it seems that these values are recieved from the
StatsCollector class. Is this correct? If so, could the error be
originating from the below?

*statsInMemory.setMemoryKBs(statsForCurrentIteration.getMemoryKBs());*
*statsInMemory.setTargetMemoryKBs(statsForCurrentIteration.getTargetMemoryKBs());*

Hi Ng'ang'a Kioi,

You are right in that these are periodically collected and stored by
StatsCollector class. What hypervisor are you working with?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to look at how cloudstack gathers VM statistics and particularly
memory stats.
Looking at the list virtualmachines api, the following stats are returned
for a sample VM
"memory": 1024,
"memoryintfreekbs": 1251804,
"memorykbs": 1048576,
"memorytargetkbs": 1048576,

Based on the api docs
memory- the memory allocated for the virtual machine
memoryintfreekbs- the internal memory thats free in vm
memorykbs- the memory used by the vm
memorytargetkbs- the target memory in vm

As indicated, memorykbs and memorytargetkbs cannot have the same values.

Looking at the codebase, it seems that these values are recieved from the
StatsCollector class. Is this correct? If so, could the error be
originating from the below?

*statsInMemory.setMemoryKBs(statsForCurrentIteration.getMemoryKBs());*

*statsInMemory.setTargetMemoryKBs(statsForCurrentIteration.getTargetMemoryKBs());*

Question about GenericDaoBase#searchAndCount method

2019-06-30 Thread Anurag Awasthi
Hi Devs,

I was looking at a bug and observed that In GenericDaoBase.java#searchAndCount
we have the following function -

public Pair, Integer> searchAndCount(final SearchCriteria sc, final
Filter filter) {
List objects = search(sc, filter, null, false);
Integer count = getCount(sc);
// Count cannot be less than the result set but can be higher due to
pagination, see CLOUDSTACK-10320
if (count < objects.size()) {
count = objects.size();
}
return new Pair, Integer>(objects, count);
}

Internally the getCount above ignores the Group By parts of Search Query to
retrieve count. It could result in the List and Count being returned as
different. Perhaps some documentation is missing here. Does anyone know why we
have this logic?

- Next minor/major releases (such as 4.11.3.0, 4.13.0.0) will be last ones
to support el6 packaging both for the management server and KVM host, but users

- Next major release (4.13.0.0) will document in its release notes that
we'll stop supporting centos6/rhel6 packaging in future versions, i.e. 4.14 and

[DISCUSS] Users being unable to tag resources they create

2019-04-07 Thread Anurag Awasthi
Hi all,

I saw an open issue https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/issues/2823 which in
summary says that users cannot tag "Projects" they created themselves. Tagging
is allowed for Root Admin and Domain Admins but not by "user". I read the code
and it seems an intended implementation of "create tags" API.

This seems an inconsistency since we allow users to create Projects. I saw a
thread on users@ list which was also similar but for "firewall" resource.

My questions were as follows -

  1. Is this by design and documented somewhere?
  2. Shouldn't users who are allowed to create a resource also be allowed to
tag the resources they create besides root/domain admins?

You can test this as described in the issue above.

Thanks!

Anurag

Re: hook or callback for CloudStack API

2019-02-22 Thread Anurag Awasthi
Hi Alireza,

Could you elaborate a more on the use case you have in mind? The description
you mention is very generic.

As far as I know we need to use polling to track the status of any async job
(which is another API call) and execute based on response. That seems to be
foundation principle behind all async calls. Alternately, you can also use
CloudMonkey
(https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/CloudStack+cloudmonkey+CLI)
  as a framework or dig a little into code there to implement a similar
solution to execute hooks.

Anurag

This script could be executed right after user submit his request or after

Maybe some API management solution could help me but the problem is

Re: Help! Jobs stuck in pending state

2019-01-22 Thread Anurag Awasthi
Hi Alireza,

Could you elaborate on how you instantiated the jobs and any thing specific
that went wrong in between? Usually deleting directly through SQL statements is
very risky and first try should be through any API support.

Also, you might want to use github page
(https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/issues) to raise an issue as I think most
people active on project have been referring the issues list on that page.

Best Regards,
Anurag

First I deleted two jobs which was existed in vm_work_job table and its
related entry in sync_queue table but it doesn't help.
Then I delete all the entries in sync_queue tables and again no success.
Any idea?
