[New Feature] noVNC console in Cloudstack

2017-08-28 Thread sachin patil
Hello,

I have integrated noVNC to cloudstack as my gsoc project for this year,
under the guidance of my mentors @Syed Ahmed and @Rohit Yadav.

The features that have been added are :

1. noVNC support added and tested for KVM / Xenservers
2. SSL/TLS security.
3. Tested for RFB versions 3.8 and below.

I have created a design doc that will help you understand the working.
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/noVNC+support+for+Cloudstack

PR for the same : https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/2204

Please let us know your views for this feature we have built.

Sachin Patil

Weekly Update on GSoC'17 project

2017-06-26 Thread sachin patil
Hello,

Last weeks work mainly revolved around about building cloudstack
again as I have some issues with jettty versions in cloudstack.

Jetty version 9 and above are required to run websockets my last build had
version 8.1.15 due to which I was not able to establish a websocket
connection.

I had discussion with my mentors and we decided to start a new websocket
server on port 8000 in the CPVM. I currently have some issues with port
8250 already used by other java/jsvc process. I would try to fix the
possible as soon as possible. And hopefully would be able to proxy data
very soon.

I have also made a new systemvm image which includes the javascript files
and other resources necessary to run NoVNC.

Thank you.

Regards,
sachin

Weekly update on GSoC project - Adding new noVNC console

2017-06-12 Thread sachin patil
Hello All,

Last week I went through the noVNC project that has to be
integrated. I studied the JavaScript files that noVNC used to make web
socket communication to the host.

Also the python websockify that is used to convert webscokets to plain tcp
calls that can be used for VNC communication.

In this week I'll try to remove the unnecessary JavaScript files from the
novnc project and set up the client side to make web socket calls to the
CPVM

I did no significant changes to the code to push it to the repo, will try
to do it this week.

Regards,
Sachin Patil

Weekly update on GSoC project - Adding new noVNC console

2017-06-05 Thread sachin patil
Hello All,

I have started integrating the noVNC console to cloudstack. As my
mentor Syed suggested, it will be available along side the existing console
and can be accessed by passing a new parameter ( webscoket = true ) to the
existing console access url.

I have created a new context "/novnc" to handle the noVNC request and a
noVNC handler for the same.

I am unable to push my local commits to my fork due to slow internet but
will try to push them soon.

Sachin Patil

Hello,

Sharing with you all the work done through out the week.

This week mostly revolved around a new cloudstack setup I had some setup
issues my mentors Syed and Rohit helped me solve them.

My SystemVM's SSVM and CPVM where not being started, we resolved that issue
as well.

Now I have a cloudstack setup running with the SystemVM up.

I have a ubuntu 14.04 instance running.

I have completed the setup. Would begin working on actual project from
tomorrow.

Thank you.

2017-05-23 Thread sachin patil
Hello rohit,

Yesterday I tried to install all dependencies . I have installed all
dependencies you mentioned expect Python - MySQL.connector. I have
installed it using sudo apt-get python-mysql.connector it installs
successfully . But if I try to package it after using ./build-deb.sh it
still says Python MySQL connector dependency unmet

I am trying to solve this right now

GSoC'17

2017-05-05 Thread sachin patil
Hello all,

I have been selected for GSoC'17 and would be working on
CloudStack-9778 <https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-9778>(
Adding a new NoVNC console ).

The aim of this feature is to make it possible to connect to VM consoles
using VNC client called NoVNC in browsers.

NoVNC console is better than our current customized console. Additional
features that NoVNC provides over the current customized console include a
copy/paste functionality, scrollback. NoVNC uses websockets that provides a
more reliable and secure connections.

My proposal can be found here
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IqJiZ_sJZktAoPjdQePoinBNZzPboR1jCkUXBpqanjo/edit

I have been selected for this project with my mentors Rohit Yadav and Syed
Ahmed.

Would like to know about your thoughts/ideas on this project.

Regards,
Sachin Patil

Re: Cannot edit confluence wiki page

Hello Shanika,

Actually, the page was created so that gsoc students
could add their names there. But that is not the case now as students
don't have the rights required to update the page. I'll ask someone to
remove/edit the page accordingly.

Hello Daan,

I had two particular projects in mind and there are pleny
others as well.

-- One is the ceph project @wido had posted here.

-- The other is Ability to move VM to other project CLOUDSTACK-9737
 ,this issue it
still open ,Wei Zhou did some work on this I guess. I would like to know
its status and if possible work for it.

If you have any other ideas Daan, I would like to discuss them as well.
