Re: CloudStack and SDN
Regarding the existing OpenContrail code that is in CloudStack. It is currently not functional. That said, Juniper is in the process of transferring OpenContrail to the Linux Foundation Networking under the new brand of Tungsten Fabric (TF). We (CloudOps) have been supporting this transition at both the governance and technical levels, and are actively supporting the reboot of that project. It would be interesting to review what the best integration architecture would look like and scope the integration details. The TF community has been focusing quite a bit on the cloud-native (container) deployment scenarios, but there are a number of architectures which are possible. One of the interesting things about the TF project is their ability to connect together legacy networks with newer network overlays (such as cloud-native networking). If others are interested in integrating TF into CloudStack again, I would be willing to support that initiative in the ways I can. At the recent Open Networking Summit (ONS), I demoed the ability to expand a service mesh between two different Kubernetes cloud regions with the ability to do policy management across the hybrid cloud deployment. I used Tungsten Fabric and Consul Connect for the overlay networking, and I used CloudStack (with S2S VPN to connect the regions) as the networking underlay for the demo. Re: CloudStack and SDN
Juniper contributed a plugin for Contrail quite a number of years ago. With that project now under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation (along with Open Daylight), it would be nice to see some of us start to explore the open options and see if we could move some better integrations forward. With Nokia pulling the Nuage plugin, there are no full SDN options available any longer and I think that's unfortunate for the project at large. -Si From: Sergey Levitskiy Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2019 3:40 PM To: dev@cloudstack.apache.org Cc: users Subject: Re: CloudStack and SDN Nicira NVP/NSX is very outdated and doesn’t support latest NSX. Nicira NVP/NSX is very outdated and doesn’t support latest NSX. On 4/17/19, 1:22 AM, "Andrija Panic" wrote: Simplest one that actually works (call it SDN if you like) - VXLAN. CloudStack and SDN
Noted Nuage's decision on ceasing SDN plugin for CloudStack. Just wondering is there any other SDN solutoin can be integrated with CloudStack ? Thanks ! Regards,
Re: New Ideas on Cloudstack (Calico SDN/NFV)
I think adding Calico would be a nice idea. I do have strong contacts at MetaSwitch (the company that open sourced it), so why don't you write a proposal for it and sent it back to the list? The good new is it's under an Apache License already (https://github.com/projectcalico/calico/blob/master/LICENSE), so there isn't going to be any difficulty on that front. - Si From: Keerthiraja SJSent: Friday, February 12, 2016 12:39 AM To: dev@cloudstack.apache.org Subject: New Ideas on Cloudstack Hi All, I would like to bring up some ideas about to integrate the http://www.projectcalico.org into cloudstack to next step ahead. How really will this help. I need all your feedback on this. Thanks, Keerthi
