Weekly Update on GSoC'17 project

2017-06-26 Thread sachin patil
Hello,

Last weeks work mainly revolved around about building cloudstack
again as I have some issues with jettty versions in cloudstack.

Jetty version 9 and above are required to run websockets my last build had
version 8.1.15 due to which I was not able to establish a websocket
connection.

I had discussion with my mentors and we decided to start a new websocket
server on port 8000 in the CPVM. I currently have some issues with port
8250 already used by other java/jsvc process. I would try to fix the
possible as soon as possible. And hopefully would be able to proxy data
very soon.

I have also made a new systemvm image which includes the javascript files
and other resources necessary to run NoVNC.

Thank you.

Regards,
sachin

Yeah, I was also thinking about it from a while. Definitely worth doing it.

I'll write it as I make more progress on my project.

Thank you,
Sachin

Nice work Sachin

Just a suggestion, it might be worthwhile creating a blogspot blog to keep
track of these updates. It would allow for richer content (screenshots,
videos, etc) as you go on.

I think you're trying to build deb packages. To do this on your Ubuntu16.04
based environment, install the build dependencies as defined in the
debian/control file (apt-get install them)

Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 9), openjdk-8-jdk | java8-sdk | java8-jdk |
openjdk-7-jdk, genisoimage,
 python-mysql.connector, maven (>= 3) | maven3, python (>= 2.7), lsb-release,
dh-systemd

You may also consider to use a docker container image I had created for this
purpose, we use this container in all of the blueorangutan-trillian CI tests:

https://hub.docker.com/r/bhaisaab/ubuntu-cloudstack-slave/

Reference deb-pkg build script using above docker container:

Sachin,

To install mysql.connector, try this:

sudo pip install --upgrade
http://cdn.mysql.com/Downloads/Connector-Python/mysql-connector-python-2.0.4.zip#md5=3df394d89300db95163f17c843ef49df

Now, retry build+package etc.

Re: GSoC'17

2017-05-23 Thread Rohit Yadav
Sachin,

I think you're trying to build deb packages. To do this on your Ubuntu16.04
based environment, install the build dependencies as defined in the
debian/control file (apt-get install them)

Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 9), openjdk-8-jdk | java8-sdk | java8-jdk |
openjdk-7-jdk, genisoimage,
 python-mysql.connector, maven (>= 3) | maven3, python (>= 2.7), lsb-release,
dh-systemd

You may also consider to use a docker container image I had created for this
purpose, we use this container in all of the blueorangutan-trillian CI tests:

https://hub.docker.com/r/bhaisaab/ubuntu-cloudstack-slave/

Reference deb-pkg build script using above docker container:
https://gist.github.com/rhtyd/57c5b904c1f25455126cbc6b1c0bb83f

Regards.

Re: GSoC'17

2017-05-22 Thread Daan Hoogland
Sachin, this seems more a code version issue to me than an environment issue.
SetHostParamsCommand is not recognised as a command. Could you try this on 4.9
branch and see if you have the same issue?

You also might want to look at the versions of gson. And if there is a jar for
that preinstalled on the hosts or mgmt server.

Hello all,

I am a student from NITW recently selected for gsoc '17. I am
tyring to a get a new development environment setup.

I follwed this guide to get my setup done https://cwiki.apache.org/
confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Setting+up+CloudStack+Developm
ent+Environment+on+Linux

But I am facing some error in my cloudstack agent
agent.log files is attached below for reference.

My host is forever in a connecting state and that doesn't change even after
restarting management server or agent.

how can i solve this issue?

Thank you.

2017-05-16 Thread Sverrir Berg
Our approach to this was to use Guacamole in "slave" mode - we added an
agent/daemon that given authentication token, IP, Port, Type of connection
would start a console session - no concept of user and no persistence
required. The authentication is based on a framework specific to Qstack so
it cannot easily be open sourced regretfully.

Agreed Guacamole is heavier since it is doing a lot of the work the client
would otherwise be doing (novnc handles all the rendering client side) -
but for our purposes it has worked very well.

Hope this helps,
Sverrir

Sverrir,

I had looked at Guacamole before I settled with NoVNC for this proposal. I
found Guacamole to be too heavy to be an integral part of Cloudstack. You
require another database setup and the users have to somehow be matched.
I'd be interested to know more about your approach to this.

Point taken Sverrir,

The current focus is to put the NoVNC implementation along side the
existing ajax based implementation so that it doesn't break existing
functionality. RDP will still be supported via the traditional way and
maybe we can add RDP using other third party libs like
http://cedrozor.github.io/myrtille/ in the future.

Congratulations with the selection!

We at Greenqloud have been using NoVNC as integral part of Qstack until
recently. We are now using Apache Guacamole
https://guacamole.incubator.apache.org/.
The main reasons for us to switch were Windows support - native RDP support
is required for the Hyper-V Hypervisor. Other benefits are that it is
written in Java and released under the Apache License.
If you decide to go with NoVNC note that the idea of generating signed
certificates for wss support will not work since no browser accepts self
signed certificates for WebSocket connections (we were using the Python
bridge).
If you would like further information please send me an email.

Good luck with your project,
Sverrir
