Re: Apache Roadshow India in 2020?

2019-09-16 Thread Siddhartha Kattoju
Hello All,

I saw some discussion about deciding on a venue for the apache roadshow in
India. I'm not sure if this has already been decided.. In any case I would
like to advocate for Goa as a venue.

Don't think it can compete in terms of being a financial hub or have a
large tech company presence however it is a very nice place to visit and
will motivate people to convince their bosses to send them. It definitely
has nice weather. In terms of local support I noticed that the Goa
Engineering Collage FOSS club organized a Debian event recently
https://debutsav.in/

I have cc'd them to see if they would like to get involved. I was not able
to find the equivalent BITS Goa and IIT Goa mailing lists. ApacheCon was a
really great experience for me personally and I would like my fellow Goans
to experience the apache way as well. They are a talented bunch! (not to
exclude the other higher ed institutions [1])

P.S. My selfish reasons behind this are that the feb time frame aligns with
my biennial visit the parents trip and I don't want to go to Gurgaon (no
offence to the Gurgaon people). That said happy to help organize.

Respectfully, simply stating that a place is a better option isn't going
to carry much weight without

1) Someone on-site that is volunteering to coordinate the event
2) An actual proposal including venues and budgets

I'm very pleased that there's someone who is local to the area. To me,
this is pretty critical table stakes, so that we don't have someone
coordinating the event from afar. Thanks for speaking up, Rohit.

Re: Apache Roadshow India in 2020?

2019-07-24 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

A quick update on this. We now have some estimates from 4 venues (5 *hotels) to
put on a 2 day conference with 2 tracks per day for approx 300 people with
keynote space, 2 track meeting rooms including catering (breakfast, lunch,
morning and afternoon coffee) is coming out at between 22k and 38k USD.

We did also ask about hackathon and space for sponsor booths during the event.

Hotels looked at are:

- Hyatt Regency
- DoubleTree by Hilton
- Le Meridien
- Leela Ambiance

We still need to refine the budget and the complete proposal a bit better and
there are probably things that need to be added.

If you know of any potential companies that could be interested in sponsoring
an event like this then that will also help us see how much we can cover the
costs with sponsorship.

Anyway the main thing is I wanted to highlight is that this roadshow idea isnt
being forgotten :-)

Huge thanks to Swapnil and all the others who have helped gather the
information needed or volunteered to help to try and move this forward.

Thanks
Sharan

Hello all,

Just to avoid any confusion, we are referring to Gurugram [1][2].
Gurugram has become a leading financial and industrial hub with the
third-highest per capita income in India.
When we refer the Gurgaon, the NCR region [3] is in our mind (New Delhi,
the capital of India is part of NCR region and other prominent cities of
NCR include Gurugram, Noida, and Faridabad).

it will take another 10 years to become metro...for roadshows you will

Re: Apache Roadshow India in 2020?

2019-06-28 Thread Rohit Yadav
Hi Sharan,

The best locations in Gurgaon are: (sorted by closeness to the
International airport)
- Aerocity (hotels nearest to the airport that have business centers but
don't have good bars, restaurants so you're stuck with what the hotel or
nearby hotels have to offer, check
https://www.booking.com/district/in/new-delhi/aerocity.html)
- Cyberhub (there are business centers, co-working spaces and hotels, as
well as an area called CyberHub full of restaurants and bars, check
https://www.booking.com/landmark/in/dlf-cyber-hub.html)
- Sector 29 (there are some good hotels but I'm not sure if they have good
business centers, but there are great many bars and restaurants in that
area)

Let me know if you need any help or if you want me to go check out the
hotels personally.

PS. I've helped arrange our internal company conference (SBCon) in May,
which we did at
https://www.heritagehotelsofindia.com/haryana/heritage-village-resort-spa-manesar.html
but
the location is about an hour outside of the city/airport. It is green,
open, has a golf course nearby and their bar is sub-par and I did not like
their conference facilities and infrastructure.

Regards.

HI Rohit

Thanks for the response. We are now looking for venues so we can get some
estimates. Do you have any suggestions of where would be good for us to try.?

I am working together with Swapnil on the proposal so will get it copied into
the wiki page so others can view what we have done so far.

Thanks

Hi Sharan!

I'm in Gurgaon and can help/volunteer and also represent Apache CloudStack
(cc-ing other CloudStack users/devs in the area who may want to join).
Happy to help if you need help around hotel and conference center in/around
Gurgaon.

Regards.

2019-06-04 Thread pritam . kute
Hello Sharan,

Thanks for sharing the details. I would like to help you guys in planning the
event.

I think this event will provide us a good opportunity to meet the people in the
Apache community and can be helpful in promoting the ASF projects in India.

Best Regards,

Re: Apache Roadshow India in 2020?

2019-06-03 Thread Sharan F
Hi Saransh

Thanks for the feedback. I see this roadshow a bit like a proof of concept
with the focus being on the attendance of local people. At most I would
expect it will be 2 days long which probably means a limited number of
people outside India participating.

If we have Apache people in this area (and feedback so far is that we do)
then I think it could be good to do it there, as that is what our roadshows
are all about - doing smaller scale events in places where Apache
communities are.

Thanks
Sharan

Hi Sharan,

This is Sanyam from Apache Fineract Community.

Yes, I also feel that roadshow in India is one of the major need of time.
I am currently based in Gurgaon, India and would love to volunteer for the
same.

Thanks,

Apache Roadshow India in 2020?

2019-06-02 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

With all the suggestions coming up for locations for potential Roadshows, the
idea of doing a Roadshow in India has been raised again. The suggested
timeframe is Q1 2020 as the weather is good (not too hot, not too cold) also
not too many other conferences are happening around that time. The potential
location is Gurgaon / Gurugram which has good transport links and seems to be a
tech hub. I am working with Swapnil ,who is active on this list and few others
I know from OFBiz who are based in India who have offered to help with the
organisation and management. We are currently working to put together a
proposal.

So as part of an initial step I would like to gauge the feedback from our
community. What do people think? (And also is anyone interested in helping out
?)

Thanks
Sharan
