RE: first steps for the next release

2015-10-14 Thread Marvin Toll
Ford was able to complete verification (today) that all occurrences of
cascading abnormalities (that is, a differences between native EclipseLink and
DM) previously discovered have been resolved with v. 1.5.1.

Although we will continue our testing… we don’t expect any additional issues
unique to v. 1.5.1… and therefore do not see any reason to refrain from
releasing this version.

Gerhard... at Ford we have only begun testing... we have our first test that
failed under previous releases and is working with DM 1.5.1.

We anticipate having our complete test suite working (or not) by the end of the
week.

[Our revised testing approach is to use the exact same test with native
EclipseLink JPA and DeltaSpike DM... seeking a consistent result.]

I don't see any issues, with a 1.4.2, but I think we might have some WF9
compatibility issues in the current code base. I'm going to do some
additional testing to see what's the real issue.

If I find anything, we may need to consider a quick 1.4.3 release after
this.

@rafael:
it isn't nice, however, since we don't have an overall (portable)
ear-support (also see DELTASPIKE-335), it shouldn't be a blocker for the
release.
if there are some promising suggestions until friday, it would make sense
to postpone the release a bit.
otherwise, we should continue imo and improve it as soon as we have found
an useful (and portable) approach.

Agreed, however my thoughts on how to fix it are to yell at individuals who

The fix in BeanManagerProvider was just a minor lookup to the parent
ClassLoader. Most of the time you will not even see that it didn't work as it
was really just broken for some scenarios. And only since a short time. So I'd
really rather go 1.1.1. There is nothing which changed in our API and thus
requires the minor version to get bumped ...

issues currently with fix version set to 1.0.1, 4 are open and 1 is in
 progress... see [1]

Will try to look at one or the other remaining issue in the data module
this week (been mainly off-keyboard for holidays last week...). Hope the
post-holidays work queue is not too long :-)
