+1 (binding)

- sigs OK
- docs meagre but OK
- source builds
- DataBindingTest good for both SWF and JS

Alpha, but already excellent!

 Hi,

 +1 (binding)

NOTICE, LICENCE, RELEASE_NOTE all OK (very minor formatting/line length
 issues)
 checksum/sigs good
rat report OK (frameworks/js/jshint.properties is missing header)
no binaries in source (except images)
 can compile from source
unit tests pass - although coverage is currently poor (eg one flex unit
test testing setting a column label)

Note if this wasn't an alpha I wouldn't vote +1
 - documentation/setup instructions needs some work need eg list all
dependancies and versions needed eg python, node etc etc
 - no list of known issues
 - poor test coverage
 - unclear which examples are working
 - ant in some examples directory fail

 Tested on OSX.

Re: Build Servers

2014-04-21 Thread Erik de Bruin
Let's not make every discussion on this list about bylaws and regulations.

If I find time, I'll build the VM and finally get the CI nightmare that
Apache itself provides behind me. If the lawyers decide that the Apache
servers are better than the VM (lol) then we won't serve nightlies from the
VM, but create a lone job on 'builds@a.o' and hope they manage to keep it
running well enough to produce a nightly every week or so.

I'm hopeful we'll approve a FlexJS soon and folks wanting to use an
installer for FlexJS need to use InstallApacheFlex 3.0 which has enough
votes to release, but because it will cause a locale issue with 4.12.0,
we've agreed to delay officially releasing the Installer until 4.12.1 is
released.

I would definitely like to get FlexJS out soon so we can generate some
buzz and hopefully get a few more folks to join us at 360|Flex.

So:
1) Should we close the vote on Installer 3.0 and post it to the release
server and just not announce it or make the switch that auto-upgrades the
Installer? One potential problem is that if folks then use that
installer to install a regular SDK they may hit this locale issue,
although several folks have used the installer in other locales and did
not hit this issue.

2) what else do we want to fix in 4.12.1? I know Maurice sort of
volunteered to the the RM, but maybe someone else should just cut an RC
for 4.12.1. I'm thinking we should put the try/catch blocks back in

AW: Build Servers

2014-04-21 Thread Christofer Dutz
Hi,

on the ApacheCon we were told that it is possible for any Apache Project to get
a dedicated VM ... perhaps this would be something we should use?
And it would be definitely possible to setup a build agent on that VM and have
Infra set that up in the public Jenkins (That agent would be flagged with
ApacheFlex or something like that and our builds would be flagged with needs
ApacheFlex. Then we would be using the public CI server but be running on our
own Agents. Think that's a sensible solution. I even mentioned the option to
Add external Agents, this would be possible, but Infra would prefer Apache
Internal VMs in order to avoid any unwanted Influence of external parties
(Namely a company sponsoring a vm and using that to influence votes ... well I
guess it was a little paranoid, but a valid thought)

2014-04-21 Thread Erik de Bruin
Chris,

I read and understood your previous emails on this subject. It all sounds
awesome, and I'm sure the infra folks you talked to at the time meant what
they said. But in my experience, what infra says and what they actually do
(within a reasonable timeframe) are two entirely different things.

I've spend way too much time this past year trying to work with them to
keep the one VM up and running for more than a week. They just can't manage
even that. In addition, they have (up till a week ago) denied all offers to
help them.

So, I'm done with them. If someone else has the cycles to keep fighting the
windmills, they are welcome to it. I'm going to help set up our own,
external VM.

After that, I'm going back to actually writing code for the project. There
are compilers out there that need some love ;-)

Thanks,

EdB

delivery to be scheduled early May (that's why I am not very active on
a.o at the moment).
So if the work on 4.12.1 can wait until after that, I will be happy to

If it can't wait, someone else can do it as you suggest.

I know Maurice sort of
volunteered to the the RM, but maybe someone else should just cut an RC
for 4.12.1. I'm thinking we should put the try/catch blocks back in
DataGrid/ADG itemToLabel as described in [1]. I think there is one more

Re: Build Servers

2014-04-21 Thread Alex Harui
I think we should ask Infra for an Azure VM. We need to prove
clone-ability of whatever we build up on my VM. And it wouldn't hurt to
have another build machine that runs a different player config.

And if it turns out we can run that VM at a higher speed we might clone
some of the mustella testing to it as well.

If there are no objections over the next day or two I will try to figure
out what we need to do to get one.

They just can't
manage
even that. In addition, they have (up till a week ago) denied all offers
to
help them.

So, I'm done with them. If someone else has the cycles to keep fighting
the
windmills, they are welcome to it. I'm going to help set up our own,
external VM.

After that, I'm going back to actually writing code for the project. There
are compilers out there that need some love ;-)

Hi,

This is vote for the initial (0.0.1) release of Apache FlexJS.

The release candidate can be found here;
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/flex/flexjs/0.0.1/rc3/

Before voting please review the section,What are the ASF requirements on
approving a release?, at:
http://www.apache.org/dev/release.html#approving-a-release

At a minimum you would be expected to check that:
- MD5 and signed packages are correct
- README, RELEASE_NOTES, NOTICE and LICENSE files are all fine
- As this is the first release please carefully check the LICENSE and
NOTICE files
- That the build script completes successfully
- That you can compile and cross-compile a simple example using the SDK.

The source package is set up the same way as the repo. This means that
the results of the build are not the same as an IDE-compatible SDK. The
compiled source package can be used in combination with the FalconJX
source package to compile some of the sample applications.

The most convenient way to use the binary package is to install it via Ant
or the Installer. To use an Installer you must use InstallApacheFlex
version 3.0 or later which is still in release candidate status at this
time. You can get InstallApacheFlex 3.0 here:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/flex/installer/3.0/rc7/binaries/

Please vote to approve this release:
+1 Approve the release
-1 Veto the release (please provide specific comments to why)

This vote will be open for 72 hours or until a result can be called.

The vote passes if there is:
- At least 3 +1 votes from the PMC
- More positive votes than negative votes

Remember that this is an initial 'alpha-quality' release so I expect there
will be many bugs found. IMO the goal is not to try to find and fix bugs
in the RC, but to make sure we have the packaging right, and enough
functionality that folks will have some success trying to use it.

People who are not in PMC are also encouraged to test out the release and
vote, although their votes will not be binding, they can influence how the
PMC votes.

When voting please indicate what OS, IDE, Flash Player version and AIR
version you tested FlexUnit with.

Please put all discussion about this release in the DISCUSSION thread not
this VOTE thread.

Thanks,
Alex

I'm hopeful we'll approve a FlexJS soon and folks wanting to use an

enough votes to release, but because it will cause a locale issue
with 4.12.0, we've agreed to delay officially releasing the Installer
 until 4.12.1 is released.

I would definitely like to get FlexJS out soon so we can generate

 So:
 1) Should we close the vote on Installer 3.0 and post it to the

auto-upgrades the Installer? One potential problem is that if folks
then use that installer to install a regular SDK they may hit this

 2) what else do we want to fix in 4.12.1? I know Maurice sort of

I'm hopeful we'll approve a FlexJS soon and folks wanting to use an
installer for FlexJS need to use InstallApacheFlex 3.0 which has
enough votes to release, but because it will cause a locale issue
with 4.12.0, we've agreed to delay officially releasing the Installer
 until 4.12.1 is released.

I would definitely like to get FlexJS out soon so we can generate
some buzz and hopefully get a few more folks to join us at 360|Flex.

 So:
 1) Should we close the vote on Installer 3.0 and post it to the
release server and just not announce it or make the switch that
auto-upgrades the Installer? One potential problem is that if folks
then use that installer to install a regular SDK they may hit this
locale issue, although several folks have used the installer in other
locales and did not hit this issue.

 2) what else do we want to fix in 4.12.1? I know Maurice sort of
volunteered to the the RM, but maybe someone else should just cut an
