Re: [DISCUSS] Building the brand for Royale
Guys, congrats for selecting the new project name. Still not sure how Royale resonates with me, but like it much more than the 1st runner up. Non English speakers would pretty often confuse beads with beds and job ads might sound strange. Just imagine: "Looking for an amazing Beads expert to join our team." :) Cheers, Tom On 20.9.2017. 15:45, Dave Fisher wrote: As an Apache project the domain would be: Royale.apache.org I can write a long discussion about policy later but there are reasons, requirements, approvals around use of other domains. Am I forgetting memorable TLP extensions? I assume we don't want anything like 'royale.foundation' or any fancy extensions like that, right? Are we considering extended names, like 'royaleframework' as well? I can register anything we decide and sponsor until a foundation takes over and then transfer the domain. Re: Mozilla takes on Flash
If Shumway ever gets completed and officially supported, it could extend swf format lifetime but it would also introduce a platform fragmentation. Not sure if it could ever cover the entire functionality of Adobe Flash player? As I understand it, mostly because of 3rd party IP. Adobe has a business model that justifies these royalties, but Mozilla probably doesn't... Tomislav On 28.10.2013. 19:06, Michael A. Labriola wrote: Shumway is a plugin. It's not a plugin. You probably need to take a look at the project and the code. Yes, they say in that article is a browser extension, but effectively it is a core JS library that acts as a Flash Player virtual machine but executing inside of the JavaScript VM. I am not sure they are ever going to get it working completely but, IMO, this is the best chance for Flex's continued existence so I would not dismiss it out of hand. Mike
Re: [APP] Tour de Flex Mobile
This is all that App Store Review Guidelines have on that matter: 2.9) Apps that are beta, demo, trial, or test versions will be rejected However, it sounds more as a rule for cutting-off half-baked or uncomplete apps than for filtering useful apps as a framework demo. I guess another issue that may come up down the track is if we wanted to publish this application in one (or more) of the app stores, do we or Apache have an account that can be done under? Re: [PR] Getting people excited about Flex
On 5.2.2013. 23:10, Jim Robson wrote: But in general, to address your point, Flex isn't for websites. It's primary purpose is enterprise applications - though now it's good for mobile, too. Our experience is that Flex (on Flash) can still find it's place on public websites in various apps for generating/editing visual or sound content. Ability to efficiently process binary data and vector graphics on the client side still puts it far ahead of solutions running on bianco browser engine. Mobile can be tricky, but with proper code optimizations it's possible to create high quality mobile apps. We just delivered an enterprise mobile app with complex UI (iPad, Android) for a client that will be used for managing board meetings by corporations and governments. It was built on 4.6 but we will switch to 4.9 soon and provide a link for a showcase when they publish it. Web apps are also a place where Flex can play it's game on a public web. We use it in our startup project for web and tablet apps. Our main gains were on development cost and performance. A really popular JavaScript app of our competitor is miles away in performance. We are launching soon and will be happy to share a link for showcase. Cheers, Tomislav

Most of it doesn¹t directly affect us, but one item does: Adobe has decided to focus its future runtime development on top of the existing architecture, as opposed to a completely new architecture (Flash ³Next²) and language (ActionScript ³Next²). So Apache Flex doesn¹t have to worry about porting to a new VM/language. That should save us lots of time and distraction.
