pls use your actual server host name not a name that doesn't exist. For

Re: svn commit: r953208 - in /geronimo/server/branches/2.2: framework/configs/ framework/configs/client-system/ plugins/ plugins/client/ plugins/client/client-security/ plugins/client/client/ plugin

2010-06-10 Thread Donald Woods
It can go either way. Most of the time, we expect plugin providers to
update their CAR builds to add in the new server releases (see
geronimo/plugins/openjpa2/). Ideally, the Samples would be released
with every server release, but we have never done that in the past, but
it is something we need to start doing.

If you add artifact-alias entries so the server can support older
Samples, then I'm afraid this will become a maintenance problem, as you
may also need to add in mappings to handle upgraded levels of Jetty,
Tomcat, OpenEJB, OpenJPA, Then the question becomes, how many
intra-release levels do you support? Only 2.2 plugins working on 2.2.1
or any 2.2.x plugins working on all future levels of 2.2.x forever. I'm
really against this scenario, as it greatly complicates creating new
maintenance releases, as you have to go in and find/add new alias
entries after every release.

Ashish,

I think there are a couple of changes that need to be made for this update:

1) Since we're likely going to be making the Axis2 jar available for
download before we have the release complete, the timestamp in the jar
name should be updated so the different versions can be easily
distinguished.
2) The checked in axiom jar should also carry a timestamp modifier
(e.g., axiom-api-1.2.5-20100610).

But we're going to instruct existing 2.1.x users to copy it over the
existing jars in the server repository, right? Or are we going to
instruct them to create an artifact-alias entry to map all usage to the
new one (which may not work in all cases)?

Using artifact-alias has been sort of an assumption in all of the
discussions I've seen. Giving two versions of a jar the same name seems
like a recipe for disaster.

release will support the Aries EBA programming model. Users can choose
to build their own custom assemblies if they choose and leave out the
EBA and WAB support if they do not require it. Also, it looks like we
will have to add a few more modules into the web profile assemblies to
handle some of the TCK tests, along with missing console, monitoring
agent, clustering, which will probably make those assemblies grow
from the current 65MB to more like 80MB.

The last time I checked (over a month ago), I seem to recall that an EBA
assembly was pulling in components that I didn't think belonged in an EBA
assembly (e.g. ActiveMQ). Was that fixed/changed? On that note, I recall the
OSGi EEG is looking at adding Message Driven Services. So, EBA is going to be
a moving target overtime... And may not always be a minimal environment.

I can imagine users being interested in WAB, EBA, Java EE Web, and Java EE Full
functionality. I'm not sure that a multitude of assemblies is where we want to
end up, however. I'm sure we don't want to be building 8 separate assemblies.

I've mentioned this before, but I would like to consider packaging multiple
configs (or allowing an assembly to easily run a subset of the installed
functionality). Something like:

geronimo run -c wab-config.xml
geronimo run -c eba-config.xml
etc.

Well, that could become a problem for our Web profile assembly which
includes EBA, as the TCK docs mention that if a web profile server
includes additional/optional Java EE technologies (aka. JMS or web
services from the Full profile) then the corresponding TCK buckets or
stand-alone tests must also be run.

True, but you still end up with a download that includes everything,
including the admin console. Still think we need a smaller download
option for 3.0 that doesn't include the console

I thought eba was a packaging idea, and the nature of the bundles inside would
determine what happened next. So I would expect us to be able to support eba
with just a web extender.

Well, that could become a problem for our Web profile assembly which
includes EBA, as the TCK docs mention that if a web profile server
includes additional/optional Java EE technologies (aka. JMS or web

We'll have to run the connector tests I think anyway.

Personally I don't really care as long as we have something we can ship :-) I
think what is a good idea will come out as we work on it.

thanks
david jencks

Hello Jarek/Devs,

In order to enable the ws-security in Axis2/tomcat, first step is to bring the
rampart module in Axis2/Geronimo. Rampart is deployed as a module in Axis2, in
the security phase.[1]

With this patch, we will get the Rampart Core component has core components
that process and enforce security.

I created this patch against Geronimo-2.2 as the trunk is not stable and I
cannot run my unit test. Please apply this patch.

Many Thanks,
Rahul

apache geronimo and then start with setting the client side out flow
security. Later I will move to Server side inflow security.
Look forward to seeing your feedbacks.
 Many Thanks,
 Rahul

 Hello Devs,
This JIRA aims to enable the WS-Security support in Apache Geronimo- in
Axis2/Tomcat. During my Google summer of code project last year, I worked on
setting up WS_Security in CXF/Jetty JAX-WS provider in Apache geronimo (plz
have a look at GERONIMO-4642) and that is still ongoing. This JIRA is
 dedicated to Axis2/Tomcat JAX-WS provider.
Some appropriate information about how to set up WS-Security is given in JIRA
 GERONIMO-4642.
For axis2 part, we will first need Rampart module (based on WSS4J) as

Attachment: WebServiceSecurity_ClientSide.txt

Hello Jarek/Devs,

I am attaching a patch (WebServiceSecurity_ClientSide.txt) for the support of
WebService Security at Client side (in Apache Axis2/Tomcat) in Apache Geronimo.

Example: User can add the following in geronimo-web.xml at Client side to
enable the ws-security

service-ref
   service-ref-nameservices/Calculator/service-ref-name
 port
  port-nameCalculatorPort/port-name
  protocolhttp/protocol
  hostlocalhost/host
  port8080/port
  uri/GeronimoAxisService/calculator/uri
  property name=wss4j.out.actionUsernameToken Timestamp/property
  property name=wss4j.out.passwordTypePasswordText/property
  property name=wss4j.out.usersystem/property
  property name=wss4j.out.passwordmanager/property
/port
 /service-ref

Following is the outgoing message intercepted by TCP Monitor:

Re: [VOTE] Geronimo 3.0-M1 release - 3rd attempt

2010-06-10 Thread Jarek Gawor
+0.5

M1 is affected by GERONIMO-5336. All services will most likely bind to
the local loopback device instead of all network devices so you won't
be able to access the console, etc. remotely. That can be fixed by
setting the ServerHostname property to 0.0.0.0 in
var/config/config-substitutions.properties file and also changing the
following in var/config/config.xml:

attribute name=ServerUrltcp://${ServerHostname}:${ActiveMQPort +
PortOffset}/attribute

to

attribute name=ServerUrltcp://localhost:${ActiveMQPort +
PortOffset}/attribute

Otherwise, without the second change an exception will be generated at
server startup by the activemq plugin.

M1 also seems to be affected by GERONIMO-5334. But I only see that
error from time to time.

#1. The assemble server page is not formatting properly in 2.2.1-SNAPSHOT. Go
to assemble server page, click expert user and try to scroll down. Unless I
make the font type very small, I can't see the system plugins and can't
 scroll down to them.
#2, This also cause the debugviews portlet displays incorrectly.
#3, Go to repository portlet first, and then go to JMS Resources portlet. The
scroll bar is pretty long and when you scroll down, you can see there is a
huge blank at the bottom of the page.

Hi all,

I have attache a screenshot for the problem when re-log in the system.

In my opinion, I think iframe will cause many problem to those portlets and
these problems could not be easy to solve. I believe that at first we use the
iframe to bring 2 benefits:

(1)support AJAX

(2)save time when load dojo style navigation tree, which is the more important
reason.

To solve the problems I believe we should be back to the old style which load
the whole page every time, and in this way we will not supprt ajax but we could
still enhance the usability because of the dojo style navigation tree.

For the time consuming, I believe it is endurable. So I attach a patch to fix
these problems.

Sorry for attaching the wrong patch (5325-Ben_2.patch) , a new substitute patch

This patch mainly removes and modifies some filters whihc are designed for the
ajax style.

Re: [VOTE] Geronimo 3.0-M1 release - 3rd attempt

2010-06-10 Thread Kevan Miller

M1 is affected by GERONIMO-5336. All services will most likely bind to
the local loopback device instead of all network devices so you won't
be able to access the console, etc. remotely. That can be fixed by
setting the ServerHostname property to 0.0.0.0 in
var/config/config-substitutions.properties file and also changing the
 following in var/config/config.xml:

 attribute name=ServerUrltcp://${ServerHostname}:${ActiveMQPort +
 PortOffset}/attribute

 to

 attribute name=ServerUrltcp://localhost:${ActiveMQPort +
 PortOffset}/attribute

Otherwise, without the second change an exception will be generated at
server startup by the activemq plugin.

M1 also seems to be affected by GERONIMO-5334. But I only see that
 error from time to time.

Thanks Jarek. I haven't reviewed the release yet (though given past reviews, I
think I'll be able to support this one). IMO, those issues are acceptable for
an M1. Hope to get to a full review, but I've got family in town. So, may be a
little slow...

It's not a right direction. As I said before, the right direction is to
replace the iframe with a div in the future.

The existing problems are low severity ones that we can fix in another ways for
now.
