Hello all, I just got a Google Wave account and it made me think about how this new technology might get incorporated into Apache culture.
I know that right now - everything should occur on list. And, the ability to go back to the list to see what discussions and decisions were made is important (both to keep decision making and to me personally - my mail archive is insanely large). But once Google Wave makes it out of its preview stage (and once Apache develops its own wave server) then the question of what wave conversations are appropriate/inappropriate for will surely come up. So, I thought it might be worthwhile for us to start considering this (and thought that I might find out if anyone is using wave yet). My own opinion would be that wave conversations should not be used for any of the functions that are currently being handled on public lists. I think that it may be acceptable for waves to be used for functions that are currently handled on private lists - as long as the final conversation was captured and posted to the private list for archiving purposes. But using wave as a replacement for IRC would probably be unacceptable (unless someone developed an IRC gadget) because people have to be invited to the conversion (and can be excluded from parts of it). Any thoughts anyone? Jay
