I'm not fully satisfied with the Wiki page you're proposing. It's
outside of ASF and although Confluence is an excellent piece of software
I would rather see it running here, at ASF. I think it will fragment the
documentation set on many places with no real purpose. So, until I'm
sold to do it elsewhere, let me go on describing PetStore configuration
at http://wiki.apache.org/geronimo/PetStore.

Understood... I'm hoping that we can come to an agreement that allows
the Geronimo community to use the Confluence software within an ASF
approved spot..

Fo now, I can point the Confluence Wiki entry for petstore to the
official location that you provided.

2005-10-26 Thread Barry van Someren
Well before the weekend I wrote that I wanted to test out some of the
open source applications out there by grabbing them, deploying them
and putting the results online.
Since a lot of open source applications don't yet support specific
instructions for running on Geronimo, I think it will help if we get
started on putting up our own.
The good side effect is that this will expose any problems as you'll
be testing the code with a lot of applications.

Unfortunately the deployments aren't always as easy as they tend to be
tied into a specific database (like MySQL HDBSQL) (for which I'll nead
to set up local versions.. )

Perhaps I'll check IRC when I get home to discuss some of my findings so far.

Can you please clarify.. Are you saying that you are testing the XWiki
software as a sample application for Geronimo? Or are you looking at
XWiki as a repository for geronimo content?

I hould have some EJB samples working this week

http://opensource2.atlassian.com/confluence/oss/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=1148

These samples are already documented, still working on the migration
part though.

Cheers!

The samples/examples that I am aware of:

-Servlet Examples - Dave C.

-EJB Examples - still looking for a good simple example here - Can
anyone help here?
-Samples described in GERONIMO-730 and 731 courtesy of Sing Li - Bruce?
Anyone else working on these?

-Web Services Sample- still looking for a good simple example here
-Day Trader - Matt
-Petstore - Jacek?
-Adventure Builder - Claus Nyhus
-Migration samples - Hernan
-Struts examples - Dave C.
-Sample application that uses Spring - ?
-MagicGball - ?
-Demo - not a very useful standalone sample, perhaps it needs to be
incorporated into another larger sample.

Please let me know if I have misrepresented anything on the list. Not
trying to assign work to anyone, just taking inventory of what folks are
already doing..

Hi Barry,
have you tried confluence for documenting? it is really friendly.

Is there any reason why would you go for xwiki?

I'm not going with XWiki at all.
I'm downloading open source web applications and putting them through
their paces on Geronimo to make a compatibility matrix of some kind.
As for the best wiki, I'll just stay neutral on the issue :-)

Re: Wiki Page for Samples

2005-10-26 Thread Dave Colasurdo

Thanks for the pointers..

I'd like to keep the default EJB samples (the ones that are delivered
with G) fairly simple, so don't believe we should use the JMS and MDB
sample. Of course, this should be available as part of the additional
samples downloadable from the Wiki.

The first sample looks promising. Has there been any thought of also
creating a browser-JSP/servlet front end to the sample. IMHO, this
seems more of a a natural fit for a simple default EJB sample (rather
than an EJB Client). Of course, the EJB client should also be available
 as a downloadable sample.

page is needed on the wiki.

I have not given that any thought yet. I figure that besides the
documentation page in the wiki, the setup will contain a Geronimo
specific deployment descriptor, and an Ant file for making the
installation easy. I will figure out where to place these when I am done
making them :)
