In MoreLikeThis.java. default tf is 2, default df is 5. so I think it behaves
correctly. No bug.

[jira] [Commented] (SOLR-9802) Cannot group by a datefield in SolrCloud

Munendra S N commented on SOLR-9802:

[~erickerickson]
I would need some suggestions here. There is similar issue in terms component
too - SOLR-13403. In both cases, main problem is {{Data.toString()}} being
called.
I have attached patches for both issues which resolves issues but not in the
best possible way

Initial thoughts was to implement {{toString()}} in {{MutableDateValue}} but as
{{MutableDateValue}} is just wrapper for {{Date}}, current implementation looks
good to me.
I went through usage of {{mutableValue}} across codebase, except in distributed
grouping and terms component(for point field only), there is an additional
wrapper for {{mutableValues}} in Solr. So, similarly we could have new wrapper
class for each {{mutableValue}}

> h3. Background
> An easy way to experiment with Streaming Expressions is to define a tuple or
> list of tuples as a stream source and apply decorators\evaluators to this
> source. However, at the moment there is no easy way to define numeric values
> in a tuple because everything is being treated as a string.
> h3. Steps to Reproduce
> Evaluate the following streaming expression:
> {code:java}
> tuple(int=13, float=42.42, string=foo, quoted_string="bar")
> {code}
> *Actual Result*:
> {code}

>   },

> ]
> {code}
> h3. Possible Workarounds
> It's possible to get the desired result by applying {{val()}} function to
> each numeric value, but it's not convenient:
> {code:java}
> tuple(int=val(13), float=val(42.42))
> {code}

[jira] [Updated] (SOLR-13709) Race condition on core reload while core is still loading?

Hoss Man updated SOLR-13709:

Attachment: apache_Lucene-Solr-Tests-8.x_449.log.txt
Status: Open  (was: Open)

I've attached the logs from the jenkins run in question...

Interestingly: Even though the logs indicate several problems in trying to
reload/unload the SolrCore, the test itself didn't seem to care enough about
the state of the collection to notice the problems – the only junit failure
recorded was a suite level failure from the ObjectTracker due to unreleased
threads/objects.

The first sign of trouble in the logs is this WARN from a ZK watcher registered
to monitor the schema for changes (in schemaless mode) in order to re-load the
SolrCore – it fails with an NullPointerException...

...AFAICT the only way this NPE is possily is if the CoreDescriptor for the
_original_ SolrCore is NULL at the time the watcher fires, and the only
concievable way that seems to be possible is if the original SolrCore hadn't
completley finished loading.

Aparently as a result of this failure to reload, a
SolrCoreInitializationException is recorded for the core name, and that
ultimately causes a fast-failure response when trying to unload the core...

[jira] [Created] (SOLR-13709) Race condition on core reload while core is still loading?

2019-08-21 Thread Hoss Man (Jira)
Hoss Man created SOLR-13709:
---

 Summary: Race condition on core reload while core is still loading?
 Key: SOLR-13709
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-13709
 Project: Solr
  Issue Type: Bug
  Security Level: Public (Default Security Level. Issues are Public)
Reporter: Hoss Man

A recent jenkins failure from {{TestSolrCLIRunExample}} seems to suggest that
there may be a race condition when attempting to re-load a SolrCore while the
core is currently in the process of (re)loading that can leave the SolrCore in
an unusable state.

Details to follow...

[jira] [Updated] (SOLR-13707) API to expose the currently used package name, details for each plugin

Description:
If a plugin is loaded from a package, the config API can expose the details of
the package where it is loaded from. This API will accept an extra parameter
{{meta=true}} to fetch this extra information. This helps the users to debug
and know if the correct version of the plugin is being used to serve the
request.

> The way JWTAuthPlugin is currently implemented, any failures are sent to the
> remote client (via {{authenticationFailure(...)}} which calls
> {{HttpServletResponsesendError(...)}}) *before*
> {{JWTAuthPlugin.doAuthenticate(...)}} has a chance to update it's metrics
> (like {{numErrors}} and {{numWrongCredentials}})
> This causes a race condition in tests where test threads can:
> * see an error response/Exception before the server thread has updated
> metrics (like {{numErrors}} and {{numWrongCredentials}})
> * call white box methods like
> {{SolrCloudAuthTestCase.assertAuthMetricsMinimums(...)}} to assert expected
> metrics
> ...all before the server thread has ever gotten around to being able to
> update the metrics in question.
> {{SolrCloudAuthTestCase.assertAuthMetricsMinimums(...)}} currently has some
> {{"First metrics count assert failed, pausing 2s before re-attempt"}}
> evidently to try and work around this bug, but it's still no garuntee that
> the server thread will be scheduled before the retry happens.
> We can/should just fix JWTAuthPlugin to ensure the metrics are updated before
> {{authenticationFailure(...)}} is called, and then remove the "pausing 2s
> before re-attempt" logic from {{SolrCloudAuthTestCase}} - between this bug
> fix, and the existing work around for SOLR-13464, there should be absolutely
> no reason to "retry" reading hte metrics.
> (NOTE: BasicAuthPlugin has a similar {{authenticationFailure(...)}} method
> that also calls {{HttpServletResponse.sendError(...)}} - but it already
> (correctly) updates the error/failure metrics *before* calling that method.

> When new security plugins are initialized due to remote API requetss, there
> is a delay between "registering" the new plugins for use in methods like
> {{initializeAuthenticationPlugin()}} (by assigning them to CoreContainer's
> volatile {{this.authenticationPlugin}} variable) and when the
> {{initializeMetrics(..)}} method is called on these plugins, so that they

> Because these security plugins maintain local refrences to these Metrics (and

> Visualization is now a fundamental element of Solr Streaming Expressions and
> Math Expressions. This ticket will create a visual guide to Solr Math
> Expressions and Solr Streaming Expressions that includes *Apache Zeppelin*
> visualization examples.
> It will also cover using the JDBC expression to *analyze* and *visualize*
> results from any JDBC compliant data source.
> Intro from the guide:
> {code:java}
> Streaming Expressions exposes the capabilities of Solr Cloud as composable
> functions. These functions provide a system for searching, transforming,
> analyzing and visualizing data stored in Solr Cloud collections.
> At a high level there are four main capabilities that will be explored in the
> documentation:
> * Searching, sampling and aggregating results from Solr.
> * Transforming result sets after they are retrieved from Solr.
> * Analyzing and modeling result sets using probability and statistics and
> machine learning libraries.
> * Visualizing result sets, aggregations and statistical models of the data.
> {code}
>
> A few sample visualizations are attached to the ticket.

SOLR-13257: Support deterministic replica routing

Deterministic replica routing can help improve caching and allow a more
consistent paging when sorting by score

This closes #677

> For each shard in a distributed request, Solr currently routes each request
> randomly via
> [ShufflingReplicaListTransformer|https://github.com/apache/lucene-solr/blob/master/solr/core/src/java/org/apache/solr/handler/component/ShufflingReplicaListTransformer.java]
> to a particular replica. In setups with replication factor >1, this normally
> results in a situation where subsequent requests (which one would hope/expect
> to leverage cached results from previous related requests) end up getting
> routed to a replica that hasn't seen any related requests.
> The problem can be replicated by issuing a relatively expensive query (maybe
> containing common terms?). The first request initializes the
> {{queryResultCache}} on the consulted replicas. If replication factor >1 and
> there are a sufficient number of shards, subsequent requests will likely be
> routed to at least one replica that _hasn't_ seen the query before. The
> replicas with uninitialized caches become a bottleneck, and from the client's
> perspective, many subsequent requests appear not to benefit from caching at
> all.

> {code:java}
> {code}
>
> A few sample visualizations are attached to the ticket.

I'm still seeing this issue on Solr 8.2, and it only happens on the replicas.

EDIT: this is happening during indexing. We're not testing querying yet.

chenkovsky opened a new pull request #840: SOLR-13524 : Or Stream Evaluator Is
Incorrect
URL: https://github.com/apache/lucene-solr/pull/840

   Override the doWork function of OrEvaluator.
   The implementation of RecursiveBooleanEvaluator(parent of OrEvaluator) is
   ```java
   for(int idx = 1; idx < values.length; ++idx){
 if(!checker.test(values[idx - 1], values[idx])){
   return false;
 }
   }
   return true;
   ```

   Obviously, it's incorrect for Or Expression

In principle +1 to multiple auth plugins. Let's assume that people may have a
max of 2 -3 auth plugins and , 99% of the people are likely to use only one.
The following should be fine

> Solr is getting support for more authentication plugins year by year, and
> customers have developed their own in-house plugins as well.
> At the same time we see more and more JIRAs to add *BasicAuth* support for
> various clients and use cases, such as SOLR-12584 (Solr Exporter), SOLR-9779
> (Streaming expressions), SOLR-11356 (ConcurrentUpdateSolrClient), SOLR-8213
> (JDBC), SOLR-12583 (Subquery docTransformer) and SOLR-10322 (Streaming
> expression daemon), SOLR-12860 (metrics history), SOLR-11759
> (DocExpirationUpdateProcessor), SOLR-11959 (CDCR), SOLR-12359 (LIR) and
> probably more. Some of these may be bugs that can be fixed with PKI though...
> Currently the framework supports *only one active Auth method* (except PKI
> which is special). Which means that if you use something else than BasicAuth,
> you're lucky if you get any of the above features to work with your cluster.
> -Even the AdminUI only supports BasicAuth (implicit via browser).- Admin UI
> has explicit support for a few plugins only.
> I think the solution is to allow more than one auth plugin to be active at
> the same time, allowing people to use their custom fancy auth which is
> tightly integrated with their environment, and at the same time activate e.g.
> BasicAuth or JWTAuth for use with other clients that do not support the
> primary auth method.

[jira] [Commented] (SOLR-12666) Support multiple AuthenticationPlugin's simultaneoulsy

2019-08-21 Thread Jira

Jan Høydahl commented on SOLR-12666:

No, this is still in the conceptual stage. Obviously we want an elegant JSON
syntax and either continue supporting today's syntax or auto-upgrade config to
some newer format on first startup of Solr. A first straw man syntax:
{code:javascript}
{
  "authentication":{
"chain": [
  {
"class":"solr.BasicAuthPlugin",
"credentials":{"solr":"IV0EHq1OnNrj6gvRCwvFwTrZ1+z1oBbnQdiVC3otuq0=
Ndd7LKvVBAaZIF0QAVi1ekCfAJXr1GGfLtRUXhgrF8c="}
  },
  {
"class":"solr.FooPlugin"
  }
]
  },
  "authorization":{}
}
{code}
