Why did you remove links to continuum, SCM, ... ? It was to be similar to the m2 site. After I added the sitemap, I found the links section a bit overloaded. I also think it's more logical to have these links on the main Maven site only, as Maven 1.X is just a sub-project now, among others. However, I don't feel too strong about it.
