Naturally I'd be interested in the same data if it's being tracked by
the OOo site somehow.

If it's any help, our marketing efforts direct users to
http://ga.openoffice.org/, which has links to binaries from here:
http://download.services.openoffice.org/files/localized/ga/ ...

I'd guess these links would represent the lion's share of direct downloads.

 Hello,

I know some of you have already published their report, but this is
just a reminder that your yearly status report is due on the 30th of
 January.
In terms of format, a mail will be fine but if you wish to you may
send an attachment to me that I will publish in our Documents section
 on the web site.

The Irish team had a quiet 2007 compared to 2006, the year which saw
our first ever release (2.1) with 100% of the GUI translated. That
was in December 2006 and the launch got a good bit of press coverage
in the Irish language media.

The Belfast Irish language daily newspaper Lá Nua had a nice piece
on p3 here:
http://borel.slu.edu/gnu/la.pdf
under the title Ní hamháin Gaelach ach saor chomh maith, which is a
cute, hard-to-translate pun: Not only Gaelic but free as well.

The only support requests we've gotten have been because of problems
downloading from a particular mirror site in Ireland. We're
handling all support through the mailing lists at ga.openoffice.org.
Everyone seems happy with the translation so far.

I've been busy this year, along with the other primary translator,
working on KDE and Firefox 3.0 localizations, so these days we're
playing a bit of catch-up on about 800-900 string changes that we
hadn't bothered to update since 2.1. Those are mostly complete now,
thanks to 3-4 other dedicated volunteers and some new blood too.

The other big news from 2007 is that I managed to create a
full-scale thesaurus for Irish, and in October released it for use
with OOo. That work formed part of my academic research on semantic
networks for minority languages; you can read more here:

 posted my request.
I am much interested in Spell Checking as my Masters Thesis is to developing
 a Kinyarwanda Spell check.

Dear Emmanuel,

Have you been in touch with Muhirwe Jackson from Makerere
University? He did some nice work on Kinyarwanda for his PhD thesis
just this year, part of which was a working morphological analyzer.

[native-lang] Fwd: Open Office -Gaeilge

2007-10-08 Thread Kevin Scannell
I just got the message below from someone wanting to install our Irish
version, presumably he means the build contained in this directory:
http://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/openoffice.org/localized/ga/

The error message is here:
http://borel.slu.edu/obair/error.jpg

Has anyone seen this sort of thing before?

And for everybody here on this list, I know you are all focused on the
2.1 release, but a status update on your project would be of course very
 nice!

The Irish team is in the middle of QAing the latest builds with
the hope of releasing a version 2.1 very very soon. This will
be the first release of OOo in Irish and we'll be contacting
most of the news media outlets in Ireland, government ministers,
schools, etc.

The UI is about 97% translated but we haven't attempted the help yet.
