Re: Apache NetBeans 12.4-rc1 is Available for Testing!

2021-04-24 Thread Arcturus Bootes
Hi Scott,

Ive had a similar issue since 12.0 and tracked it down to a dead shortcut
on my Desktop folder that for some reason one of the threads called "Folder
Watcher Service" (sorry can't remember the name exactly as I'm not in front
of the computer) was scanning the desktop.

Try and see if you have any shortcuts to .bat files that no longer exist or
apps and try again.

I've been meaning to put in a ticket but have not yet.

Cheers.

Sorry I had an image attached 9if it goes through to the list) that wasn't

Re: Apache NetBeans 12.4-rc1 is Available for Testing!

2021-04-23 Thread Scott Palmer
I've noticed the Open Project dialog is taking an extremely long time to
open the first time. On the order of 15-20 seconds.
I opened it from the context menu in the Projects panel and it seems like
NB has locked up because the context menu just sits there for that long
after selecting Open Project.
I don't see anything interesting in messages.log that might explain it.
This is on Windows 10, JDK 16.
On macOS 11.2.3 with JDK 16 I do not see the delay.

Hi all,

Here's our release schedule for 12.4:

April 2: 12.4 Beta
April 16: 12.4 Feature freeze
April 21: Weekly Release Candidate 1
April 28: Weekly Release Candidate 2 (if needed)
May 5: Weekly Release Candidate 3 (if needed)
May 7 - 14: Voting
May 15 - 30: Release

That means we're on schedule with Release Candidate 1, the binary artefacts
of which are here:

https://ci-builds.apache.org/job/Netbeans/job/netbeans-TLP/job/netbeans/job/release124/10/artifact/dist/netbeans/

What's new/changes, a fuller document will be created closer to the release:

https://github.com/apache/netbeans/milestone/12?closed=1

The fuller document is being put together here, please document the
features and fixes you have provided:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Apache+NetBeans+12.4

Please try out your normal workloads as well as, if you've added new
features or fixed bugs, please try out those features and fixes to make
sure everything works as you expect.

Feature freeze is behind us now, so only fixes for blocker issues are
allowed this time. The rules are the following:
- The blocker issue, if found, has to be announced and discussed on the
developer mailing list first. Please note that if you have concerns about
the licensing of some files/components please raise it now as those are
considered blocking.
- If there would be an eventual need of fix, please:
- Mark the milestone as: 12.4.
- Please add Neil and me as additional reviewers.

That would also indicate that we do another release candidate when the
issue is fixed.

If everything goes right, this release candidate will become the voting
candidate and the next action would be the vote on the release.

Thanks,

Gj

The “Resolve Project Problems" dialog for Gradle projects still shows HTML codes instead of having actual line breaks in the “Description:” field.

Re: Apache NetBeans 12.4-rc1 is Available for Testing!

2021-04-22 Thread Scott Palmer
On Windows 10 I extracted the netbeans folder on top of my previous install of
the 12.4 beta. Trying to launch it claimed “Cannot find Java 1.8 or higher.”

I have Zulu builds of Java 1.8, 15 and 16. The window registry has entries for
15 and 16 under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit”
(but not 8 for some reason). They are installed to their default locations,
e.g.:
C:\Program Files\Zulu\zulu-8
C:\Program Files\Zulu\zulu-15
C:\Program Files\Zulu\zulu-16

I use the Zulu builds that have JavaFX bundled as it simplifies having to deal
with the JavaFX modules.

JAVA_HOME env var is pointing to C:\Program Files\Zulu\zulu-8

The netbeans64.exe launcher should be able to find at least one of these. I
tried running it from a cmd.exe where I verified JAVA_HOME was set correctly,
but it did not help. Is it hard-coded to only look where the Oracle JDK
installs if there is nothing specified in netbeans.conf?

I will edit netbeans.conf to explicitly point to the JDK as I usually do and
continue testing, but I shouldn’t have to do that to get NB to launch.
