Re: [VOTE] Release Apache NiFi 1.24.0 (RC3)

2023-11-18 Thread Andrew Lim
This might just be user error on my part, but I don’t see the “Additional
Details” link for processors, controller services, etc. in the embedded
documentation.

I successfully ran a full clean install on macOS (Ventura 13.0.1, OpenJDK
version 1.8.0_372). I wanted to verify the Documentation changes in 1.24.0 and
started with https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NIFI-12322.

But I don’t see the “Additional Details” link in the 1.24.0 embedded doc for
this controller service, like I do here in 1.23.0:

https://nifi.apache.org/docs/nifi-docs/components/org.apache.nifi/nifi-elasticsearch-client-service-nar/1.23.2/org.apache.nifi.elasticsearch.ElasticSearchClientServiceImpl/index.html

I confirmed that in the path
nifi-1.24.0/work/docs/components/org.apache.nifi/nifi-elasticsearch-client-service-nar/1.24.0
 the additionalDetails.html file doesn’t exist.

Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

Thanks,
Drew

Hi Steven,

Excited by your interest in this! A Jira was created to migrate the NiFi
website to ASF git build/deploy [1]. I’ve been meaning to work on it but
haven’t had the cycles.

In my research on static-site generators, Hugo [2] came up as a very strong
candidate especially due to its speed. There are 10 Apache websites that
currently use Hugo [3]. Apache Jena is one of them and that team documented
their migration steps on their wiki [4].

Perhaps you could do some research and share your findings. If we can get a
working version of the current NiFi website in a chosen generator, we can get a
Discuss thread going in the community similar to what Apache Jena did [5].

I would love to help with the migration as well as a refresh of the site!

-Drew

Re: Doco, PutSolrContentStream

2022-01-28 Thread Andrew Lim
Hi Dwane,

Thanks for finding and reporting those documentation errors. I filed a Jira [1]
to fix those.

It looks like the change to the default value of
nifi.provenance.repository.rollover.time was made in 1.12.0 [2]. I will see if
we can improve the docs to give more context to why this was done as part of
[1].

Re: PDF version of NiFi Documentation

2021-06-15 Thread Andrew Lim
Hi Bret,

As Pierre said, there isn’t a PDF of all the NiFi documentation. However, a
popular workaround is:

- Access the URL for a specific guide (for example:
https://nifi.apache.org/docs/nifi-docs/html/overview.html
)
- Choose to Print
- Change the destination from your printer to “Save as PDF"

In setting up my secure NiFi and secure NiFi registry, I used the NiFi TLS
Toolkit [1] to create my config files and certs. I was able to access the UIs
of both apps using Safari but not able to with Chrome due to a
NET::ERR_CERT_REVOKED error which I had never seen before. Turns out this is a
known issue on Catalina [2]. MacOSX 10.15 requires certs to be valid for 825
days or less and a minimum 2048 bit key. By default, the TLS Toolkit sets the
validity to 1095 days and the number of bits for generated keys to 2048.
Creating new certs with the required 825 validity solved the issue. I will add
a note to the Toolkit Guide for this new requirement [3].

Outdated NiFi svn repo

2019-04-02 Thread Andrew Lim
Does anyone know why the following repo exists?

https://svn.apache.org/repos/infra/websites/production/nifi/

A new NiFi user came across the outdated documentation in that repo [1]. To
prevent this from happening again, I was planning on filing a JIRA with the ASF
INFRA team, but wanted to ask on this mailing list before doing so.

Thanks,

-Drew

Re: [DISCUSS] Closing in on a release of NiFi 1.8.0?

2018-10-16 Thread Andrew Lim
I created a Jira to document the new load balancing functionality [1] and just
submitted a PR for it [2].

I think it would be beneficial for users if it could be reviewed and included
in the release.

Re: NiFi code re-use

2018-05-14 Thread Andrew Lim
Scott,

Besides the documentation available in NiFi and in NiFi Registry [1], there are
also Videos available on the Registry web site [2] that might be helpful to you.

Also, a Getting Started guide [3] has been written that didn’t make the 0.1.0
Registry release, but can be seen if you build off Master.

Re: Enrichment plugin for adding attributes from SQL

2018-01-04 Thread Andrew Lim
Hi Brett,

Thanks for your feedback on the “Add Processor” window. I’m sorry you had
trouble identifying the right processor to use for your data flow.

There are tags on the left of the “Add Processor” window that categorize many
of the processors into functional groups. For example, selecting the
“attributes” tag would limit the processors listed to the those related to
attributes. Additionally, there is a Filter field at the top that can also be
used to search processors. More information on using tags and filters can be
found in the documentation [1].

Having said that, the UX of finding/adding a processor can definitely be
improved. There are two Jiras related to this effort that I am aware of
[2][3]. If you have the opportunity to review those proposed improvements,
additional thoughts/suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated!

I had suggestions to use a script processor but that just sounded like a

Anyway, I figured I'd write a processor to do this, anyone interested you

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache NiFi Registry 0.1.0

2018-01-01 Thread Andrew Lim
+1 (non-binding)

-Ran full clean install on OS X (10.11.6)
-Tested secure and unsecure Registry instances: creating/editing users,
buckets, policies, special privileges; performed similar testing on group level
-Reviewed documentation
-Performed basic testing in NiFi: adding registry clients, putting a process
group under version control, saving different versions, changing versions,
importing a version, stopping version control

Awesome initial release for this project!

 Thanks Joe.

 For community:

You did bring up a good point about external viewer and what we actually
ended up doing was run a subset of the mime.type to and ExecuteStream
processor that could convert it to text and then we UpdateAttribute to
 mime.type = text/plain > Then auto terminate success.

Then we can view the provenance event of the success out of the
 UpdateAttribute.

The use requirement to view other mime types was mainly for troubleshooting
purposes so the flow I described above will work for us.

Re: Closing in on a NiFi 1.2.0 release?

2017-05-02 Thread Andrew Lim
There are three doc updates/additions that would be great to include in the RC:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NIFI-3701
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NIFI-3773
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NIFI-3774

Sarah Olson and I have been working on these. We should have PRs submitted for
them very soon.
