Re: NuttX Workshop 2024 - event planning

2024-01-29 Thread Alin Jerpelea
Hi all,

in this dev thread I can be blamed for the "short" name since we are under
an Apache mailing list and I keep is simple.
Apologies for that!

For the event itself we will use the proper name and I will ask tomorrow
for the permission to organize the event .
Thanks for spotting the error. It will be fixed ASAP.

Best regards
Alin

Re: NuttX Workshop 2024 - event planning

2024-01-29 Thread Gregory Nutt
The names NuttX and Apache NuttX are both names that are trademarked by
the ASF.  That certainly can be used for external events, but not
without explicit permission from the ASF:

   https://apache.org/foundation/marks/resources
   https://apache.org/foundation/marks/events

"The VP, Brand Management, or the VP of the relevant Apache project,
must approve the use of Apache marks in any events run by third parties.
This includes conferences, meetups, get-togethers, and any other types
of events. Events must comply with this policy and have permission to
use Apache marks in the name of the event or in any of the primary
branding, including website domain names, for the event."

In any event, we must have such permission to use the trademark for any
event at Sony.  It is a legal requirement.

I think it is this way for legal reasons: this is not an event released or
promoted by Apache Software Foundation (ASF).

And although the official name of the project is Apache NuttX, we can't use
the Apache NuttX Workshop, because that would emphasize an Apache event,
but it is a community driven event.

Maybe in the future this event could be driven by ASF, like Linux
Foundation does.

Good question Greg!

Shouldn't this be "Apache NuttX Workshop 2024" instead of "Nuttx
Workshop 2024".  Apache NuttX is the full, legal name of the RTOS; Use
of NuttX alone is considered ambiguous and is discouraged by the ASF.
