Re: [RELEASE]: AOO 4.1.1 milestone 2 based on revision 1608452

2014-07-10 Thread Jürgen Schmidt
Hi,

I want to inform you that most of the files are already uploaded and can
be found under
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Development+Snapshot+Builds

We have 2 new languages ca and ca-XV and updates for de, zh-TW, he, pl,
lt integrated for early preview.

A list of fixed issues (since 4.1) can be found under
http://ci.apache.org/projects/openoffice/milestones/4.1.1-m2-r1608452/AOO4.1.1_fixes.html

The upload of some Windows files is still ongoing but will finish later
today.

Please help to verify the fixed issue and help us with general QA to
make 4.1.1 a good and stable release. Your feedback is welcome now that
we have time to fix important issues until the release in August.

Juergen

the next AOO 4.1.1 milestone is build on revision 1608437 on the AOO410

correct revision is 1608452, I updated the build and milestone number

Besides several fixes (info is coming later) the milestone will contain
translation updates for pl, lt, de, zh-TW. and new translations for ca
 and ca-XV.

The translation pt and he contains several errors (found by gsicheck)
and have to be fixed first. They will be integrated later.

The milestone preparation starts now to have it in place later this week.

Apache_OpenOffice_4.2.0_Win_x86_install_en-US_1608755.exe and its

There was a problem on the win-nightly buildbot. It updated the source
to the latest trunk instead to the latest revision of the branch it was
requested to checkout. This should be fixed now and the next nightly
will get the AOO410 source.

Now is an error in the path to the source :(

request: certain translation for ca and ca-XV for the Update Service

2014-07-10 Thread Oliver-Rainer Wittmann

Hi,

There is one string which occurs in the user notification on Mac OS X
systems that informs about the availability of AOO which is not covered
by our translation process.
The string is Only for Mac OS X versions 10.7 or newer. It shown to
inform the user about the fact that AOO versions 4.1.0 and later will
only run on Mac OS X versions 1.7 or newer.

For our planned 4.1.1 release we have two more languages - Catalan (ca)
and Catalan Valencia AVL (ca-XV).

Could one of translators please provide a translation for the above string.
Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Oliver.

[RELEASE, TOOLS] bash script to generate Update Feed

2014-07-10 Thread Oliver-Rainer Wittmann

Hi,

below you find a commit of a bash script inclusive needed meta data to
our devtools area of our code repository which can be used to generate
the Update Feeds.
The Update Feeds are requested via HTTP/HTTPS from installed AOO/OOo
versions to check, if a new AOO version is available for the requesting
AOO/OOo instance. The URL which a certain AOO/OOo version is using in
its HTTP/HTTPS request is the so-called UpdateURL which differs between
the AOO/OOo versions.

I have used the provided bash script when we had made our 4.1.0 release
to create the currently available Update Feeds.
I have already prepared the meta data for our planned 4.1.1 release, but
these need adjustments once the 4.1.1 release is out. I will again take
the reponsibility to generate the Update Feeds for our 4.1.1 release.
But in case somebody else wants to take over this task, the provided
bash script will be helpful

Further information about our Update Service is available at [1]

Feature request, questions. Send documents as html e-mail.

2014-07-10 Thread Alexandro Colorado
I wonder how involved would be to set a feature to send documents as
HTML Emails. (not attachments).

I look at this code:
http://opengrok.adfinis-sygroup.org/source/xref/aoo-trunk/main/sfx2/source/dialog/mailmodel.cxx#344

I would need to understand the whole branch better. But if possible
there could be a SaveAsHTML instead, and then send it to the mail
client as content for the email (as opposed to an attachment).

Regards.

 Hi everyone,

I've been following OpenOffice and ODF's evolution for quite some
time now, and am interested in getting involved in the community,
as I think there's some areas I could contribute to. I've
previously had many discussions about this with Louis Suárez-Potts,
who suggested I introduce myself here.

Briefly, my (recent) work has been on word processing for mobile
devices - specifically, UX Write, an iOS word processor based on
HTML5. This is a shipping product that's been on the market for a
couple of years now and has many thousands of users. From the very
beginning I've focused heavily on supporting open standards, and
have an intimate understanding of HTML5, OOXML, and ODF as a result
of my work on the project. I've written a lot about the design of
 the app at http://blog.uxproductivity.com.

I note the currently-limited OOXML support in OpenOffice, and would
like to learn more about the current work being done on this, and
contribute to these efforts. I've previously written a mostly
complete .docx - HTML filter in UX Write, which supports almost
all features, and uses non-destructive updates for preserving
unsupported elements on save. Currently I am early stages of adding
ODF support, and am familiar enough with the spec to understand the
relationship between the two formats pretty well.

There's also a ton of thoughts on my mind about bringing
OpenOffice/ODF to mobile, but in the interests of brevity I'll
leave those for a separate mail :)

I'd like to begin contributing to OO by helping document the word
processing aspects of OOXML and their relationship to ODF, ideally
in the wiki. The official specs of both formats serve poorly as an
introduction, and I think a more gentle explanation would be of
use. If you would like to see this, I'd be happy to register on the
 wiki and begin writing.

A gentler explanation would certainly be appreciated! Thank you for
this effort and welcome!

 +1 for Adding a Report a bug/issue link, that will open Bugzilla/issues

Making it easier for people to reports bugs conveys an implicit message of
 we want your feedback.

Here's the challenge: What happens when we make it easy for 100
million people to enter bug reports?

We have some sense of that when we had a prominent link to reporting
problems with the website on the footer of every page. What we saw
was many emails a day to that address, asking support questions about
OpenOffice. They were not reporting bugs, but asking functional how
 to questions.

So the challenge is how to make it easier to report bugs, and at the
same time not suggest that this is an avenue for getting support
questions answered. Even if 1% of users are confused by this,
multiply by many millions of users, and you have a big mess.

Because of this we made some bug reporting information harder to find,
so a casual user would not accidentally go down the wrong path.

I don't know of any perfect solution here, but maybe we could have two paths:

 1) One project participants and other technically savvy folks, who can
be expected to know what a defect report is and how to write one.
Remove the hassles for them to enter a defect report.

 2) Everyone else should be encouraged to go to the forums. Most times
it is a functional question or a known issue. Bugzilla is not a kind
tool for either of those cases. So use the forums for that. But then
have a *one-button solution* for transferring information from a forum
post to Bugzilla, something that the forum moderators can use. So
with a single click open up a new draft Bugzilla issue, copying the
information and attachments from the forum post.

I realize this thread is months old but something I was just thinking
about the other day. It would be useful to have a link from within the
Help for the product to some friendly interface (employing cgi or the
like) which would attempt to collect meaningful information from the
reporter and either match it to an existing BZ entry and show them the
results, or provide some easy way to file a new bug. But, we have a few
hurdles for any idea like this -- not the least of which is the reporter
would need to set up a BZ account to file a bug -- the collected
information could be shipped off I think. And, we would need to find a
means of doing this via the Apache resources we currently use.

Thoughts?

Brennan, did you file your idea as an enhancemet request?

 Hello OpenOffice Team,

My name is Brennan. I am a user experience designer engineer, I am
currently building the FOSS crypto-webmail project Mailpile... perhaps you
 have heard of it :)

Here is a link explaining the current user experience flow which I
experienced as a major pain point this morning trying to file my first
 OpenOffice bug report:

 https://brennannovak.com/notes/432

I believe my initial bug is quite valid and should be fixed. But, I also
believe that it is equally valid to improve the user experience of
reporting bugs themselves- the 10 step process I found myself in was a
quagmire that I almost gave up on, but I resolved when I started working on
Mailpile to be better member of the FOSS community and to strive to report
UX bugs by giving other FOSS projects more patience, empathy, and effort to
 help them improve!

I realize that making it easier to file bugs will probably increase your
volume of bugs filed (certainly a mixed blessing), and that this will
require more filtering diligence from your team to weed through them. I
am completely unaware of what resources OO has and how feasible this, but
it seems fortuitous to improve things a bit from the current state.

I have numerous other improvement ideas I have encountered in the setup
and updating flows of OpenOffice and would be willing to share them, so
long as it is helpful to your team!

 Sincerely,
 Brennan Novak

As of now, I went through the Level 1 and Level 2. I just started
