Can anyone explain why this happens? is the Snapshot M3 built from different

no the snapshot is built on branch AOO410 and only selected fixes are

You would be a perfect documentation volunteer. We have an ongoing

You can find the work-in-progress documentation here:

It's a wiki, so it will be fairly easy to edit. But you will need an
account for that. Accounts are created on request: just let us know your

Then the main discussion hub for documentation is the dedicated doc

Executable name in Linux launcher

2014-07-24 Thread Andrea Pescetti

In our typical Linux installation we rely on a launcher called
 /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice
which in turns executes
 /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice.bin

The 'soffice.bin' name is not hard-coded, but computed in the former
script with

sd_binary=`basename $0`.bin

As observed on the users list
http://markmail.org/message/eihw7r66e2bb2giy
this breaks expectations when one is using a symlink (say,
openoffice4) to /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice since then $0 would
be the symlink's name and not soffice, so the launcher would try to
execute openoffice4.bin and this wouldn't work.

Is there any reason against having some additional checks in our
launcher, or even hardcode soffice.bin as executable name there? This
seems Linux (or UNIX-like) specific but I haven't checked on other systems.

Regards,
  Andrea.

OOXML documentation

2014-07-24 Thread Peter Kelly
Hi,

I've begun writing up some documentation on the OOXML file format on the wiki:

https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/OOXML

The new content is that linked to from the first section, currently limited to
a description of the packaging format, extensibility features, and a brief
introduction to WordProcessingML. This is just the beginning, and there's a
*lot* more to be covered, which will happen over the coming weeks (months?).

I've deliberately avoided discussing details of any particular implementation,
so that it's a general description that is hopefully of use to anyone writing
software to deal with the format. I will however be releasing my own
implementation (which converts to/from HTML) once I've completed the port to
Linux (which is close to completion).

If anyone else who has experience working with the format would like to
contribute as well, that would be great. My expertise is limited to the word
processing aspects only, as I've never worked with the spreadsheet or
presentation formats.

 Hi all,

I've finished some more work on the download webpages. Because you can
benefit from these changes for your localized website you may want to know
 how to use it.

 - Download webpage:

 1.
All the colored boxes + navigation bar + logo section can be defined to be
shown or not. If they should be shown, the text can be localized in
 msg_prop_l10n_XX.js.

For an example see the source code of http://www.openoffice.org/xx/
 download/index.html.

 - Download scripting:

 1.
Moved all variables and functions into an single global object DL. Now
only this object is in the global scope of the browser window and no longer
every little variable (best practices in JS scripting).

 2.
The same for the localization strings in msg_prop_l10n_XX.js (global
 object l10n).

 3.
An error text is shown when choosing not suitable select box options
 (e.g., OS X 32-bit + any language + 4.1.0). If it's not possible to
translate the English wording properly into your language, then (more or
less) free text can be defined.

 See the variables l10n.dl_error_custom_1_text until
l10n.dl_error_custom_4_text (depends on the exception case) in
 msg_prop_l10n_XX.js.

 - Select boxes:

 1.
The list items can be localized. The current strings are in English and
 can be found in msg_prop_l10n_XX.js.

 See the variables l10n.dl_green_box_select_box_os_values,
 l10n.dl_green_box_select_box_language_values and
 l10n.dl_green_box_select_box_version_values in msg_prop_l10n_XX.js.

 2.
Furthermore, in the language select box the list items have a tool tip
(native language name + ISO code).

 BTW:
I'm now subscribed to the L10N mailinglist.

And as always, if you need more details just ask. :-)

 Marcus

Very cool! a nice fill in template page. :)

Taking a look at this again. I have two ideas --

* take this email and make into an instruction page instructions.html or
something in /download

* it would be helpful to have a new file called localized_download.html
or something in /download as well that would contain the slightly edited
js references found, for example, in

http://www.openoffice.org/de/downloads/index.html

with placeholders for the language js file.

The second item would be especially helpful to get translation volunteers
to help in anticipation of new language releases. They could submit the
changed download page, and the translated string js file as issues ahead of
time to be committed when the release comes out.

What do you think?

OK. Just keep in mind the maintenance question. If we use the file

sufficient. I assume Infra takes care of the BZ backups so we'd need
