Hello Matthias:

I just tried the version of AOO 4.5.0_en_US. I did not compile it, I downloaded
it from:

I downloaded version 4.2.0_es from:

https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/openoffice/4.2.0-Dev3/binaries/es/Apache_OpenOffice_4.2.0_Linux_x86_install-deb_es.tar.gz

I thought about the 4.2.0 version. Did you build it yourself? Did you
test "en-US" instead of "es"?

What is your Operating System?

We need some more details, I guess.

Dear Persy,

As a suggestion that might not be appropriate on this mailing list, there is an
alternative office suite from China that is Top 1 sell on Chinese market here :
https://www.wps.com/?lang=es
WPS Office - Free Office Download for PC & Mobile, Alternative to MS Office -
WPS Office - Free Office Download for PC Mobile, Alternative to MS
Office
Free download WPS Office 2019/2016, a free open office suite download
alternative to Microsoft/MS Word, Spreadsheets,Presentation, etc. Would you
need Office Word, Presentation, Spreadsheets or Office templates for home,
business or education? WPS Office can be your best choice.
www.wps.com

Since China is pro-Cuba, as we all know in this world. I think if in the end
OpenOffice is really blocked to Cuba, you can switch to WPS from China.

I know this is an OpenOffice mailing list and I'm promoting OpenOffice's
competitor here, but I think helping people out properly is appropriate on any
mailing list.

Hao Wang

Have you also installed the desktop-integration?

"Desktop integration.
Desktop integration for deb-based systems requires installation of one package.
Historically, for rpm based systems, OpenOffice has provided desktop
integration packages for madriva, redhat, suse, and now freedesktop. These
packages are located in the desktop-integrationsubdirectory of the install
directory.
Many desktop window managers like KDE4, Gnome3, and Unity now adhere to the
freedsktop.org standard for icon placement and mime-type definitions. For this
reason, you may want to install the freedesktop desktop integration package
first before trying the others."

Exerpt from https://www.openoffice.org/download/common/instructions.html

You may want to purge LibreOffice from your system, to avoid any clashes.
Myself, I really enjoy this step (love it actually!)

Run in terminal,

sudo apt-get -y remove --purge libreoffice*
sudo apt-get -y autoremove

I hope this helps :)

Great!

Hopefully in the next days there will be a new build available.

We have some other buildbots blocking our machine. ;-)

If you get a file unpacking error, it is probably because of a bad download and
it is unwise to install from that. If tar cannot find the end of the archive,
that strongly suggests the download is bad or incomplete.

I will try an unpack on the 4.5.0 es version to check if it unpacks correctly
or not.

I have just unpacked my download, and it unpacked correctly. Try a fresh
download.

The archives are sensitive to the precise parameters passed to the archive

I found

Does it help if I myself test it in another machine too? Is there anything

We are all volunteers working in our spare time.
Unfortunately the two people discussing that issue left the project
longer ago.

So it would need a developer working on this. Of course help is always
welcome!

Development for 4.1.8 is already closed. But of course it could go into
"trunk" or "AOO42X".
A new icon set would need a graphic designer (or similar). And those
icons must be compatible with our license.

What kind of icons did you think of?

Here are two links to compare the loss of quality in AOO when an image is
reduced using the mouse. Links were shared with dev@openoffice.apache.org

I guess I misunderstood Delio's message.
test4 displays an error message when opening a file for me on Debian 10.

The loss of quality is on screen. Attachment two capture, the first one whit
AOO_4.8.1_test6 and the other one with LO_7.0.2.2 for comparing.

Can you make such a document available (DropBox, etc.)?

I think LO has now ODF 1.3 set as default. The message box is a bit
misleading, the wording is from times when LO didn't exist. ;-)

That should be fixed in the release, but it would be interesting to test
it again.

That's the bug we are working on to be fixed.

That would be worth another thread. By "loss of quality" you mean on
screen or when printed?

Test to Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.8_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US-v2

2020-10-20 Thread Delio Orozco Gonzalez
Hello everyone:

Test with two PC:

CPU: Core 2 Duo and Quad Core
RAM: 4 Gbyte in both PC
SO: Debian 9 and Debian 10

When I open a odt document made by a current version of LibreOffice, for
example, 7.0.2, swriter say:

"This document was created by a newer version of OpenOffice. It may contain
features not supported by your current version.

Click 'Update Now..' to run online update and get latest version of
OpenOffice'; then, when I execute the button Update Now... and not can't access
and close the window, appear other windows with de message "General error",
nevertheless at close the dialog the document is opened. That situation is the
same if press button "Later"

In other moment, if the document was make with a version older, then only
appear the message "General error" , and at close the window the document is
opened.

When I create a odt document called "Test" and I will save it for first time;
swriter say: "Error saving the document Test: General Error; however the
document is saved. To open this same document appears a dialog box that say:
"General error", but the document it's open.

Whe I insert a png picture and it is reduced by the mouse, there is loss of
quality in the image.
