...and so had my brain, for a short while.

I wrote "Mingw" instead of "Cygwin".

I apologize for the noise! I renamed the file shortly therafter
(thanks to Matthias who pointed to me the error immediately).

But, quoting Damjan:

This is very interesting!

Damjan, (one of) the next things on my to-do list is to peek into your
Scons branch and try to see if I can help there. Does that branch also
try to preserve compatibility with Mingw?
