[dev] non-xml files in 2.0 format?

2005-07-08 Thread Matthew L. Avizinis

Greetz,
 Do my eyes deceive me? Do I see non-xml files in the 2.0 format now?
Namely, mimetype, and particularly those pesky files in the
ObjectReplacements folder. Those seem to be character replacements for
the formula editor and seem to be binary files. If I am creating a
Writer file from the bottom up how can those be generated (easily)? or
are they even necessary?

Please fill me in.
Thanks in advance,

[dev] Unicode Consortium releases UTR #36: Security Considerations

Hi,

Thought this might be interesting for one or the other.

Subject: Unicode Consortium releases UTR #36: Security Considerations
From: Rick McGowan [EMAIL PROTECTED]

2005-07-07. The Unicode Consortium announced today the release of the
first version of UTR #36: Unicode Security Considerations:

http://www.unicode.org/reports/tr36/

Because Unicode contains such a large number of characters and
incorporates the varied writing systems of the world, incorrect usage can
expose programs or systems to possible security attacks. This document
describes some of the security considerations that programmers, system
analysts, standards developers, and users should take into account, and
provides specific recommendations to reduce the risk of problems.

Re: [dev] non-xml files in 2.0 format?

2005-07-08 Thread Malte Timmermann

See them as redundant information.
Metafile for displaying content of OLE objects, without having to launch
the needed application, which might not be available on your system.

This is a general mechanism, which doesn't make any differene between
known and unknown document formats.

You always have the real document somewhere (format depends on OLE object).

Malte.

Hi Frank,

thanks again for your help. For the archives, here's the working code
to open the DSB:

Sub openDSB()
  doc = ThisComponent
  frame = doc.getCurrentController().getFrame()
  urlTransformer = createUnoService(com.sun.star.util.URLTransformer)
  Dim url as new com.sun.star.util.URL
  url.Complete = .component:DB/DataSourceBrowser
  urlTransformer.parseStrict(url)
  dispatcher =
frame.queryDispatch(url,_beamer,com.sun.star.frame.FrameSearchFlag.CHILDREN

 Hi,

Hi Magnus,

I took the freedom of re-naming your post to give to make it more
explicit.

 I want to add a custom export feature that typically would:
 - export the current doc to the chosen target file format
 - NOT bring up the file save dialog
 - but instead send the file with a HTTP POST to a web application

 Would this be of interest?

Sure it would be !

 And can you please help with some starting points in the SDK and/or
 the source?

In fact, I don't really know by which place you should start. But, an
idea would be to look at the csv export filter code ! This should give
you some ideas.

 Thanks

Thank-you for trying to make OOo More enjoyable :-)

Regards,
Pierre-Andre

[dev] re: still having problems getting my protocol handler to be called

2005-07-08 Thread James Black

I am creating a file in the class the implements the four interfaces for
the protocol handler, in the constructor, but it is never opened, and
closed, so my protocol handler is never being called.

Is there someone that is willing to look at my Netbeans project and see
what I am doing wrong? This has been very frustrating.

My addition to the menubar appears, so the addon.xcu file is fine, but
the two menu items are greyed out, so it appears that that is due to the
protocol handler not being called.

Thank you.

Hi James,

 I am creating a file in the class the implements the four interfaces for
 the protocol handler, in the constructor, but it is never opened, and
 closed, so my protocol handler is never being called.

Did you have a look at the common.rdb (oo1.4 services.rdb) using the
regview tool to see, if your protocol handler is registered ?

OO 2.0:
.\program\regview
C:\...\OpenOffice.org1.9.109\user\uno_packages\cache\registry\com.sun.star.comp.deployment.component.PackageRegistryBackend\common.rdb

OO 1.1.4:

.\program\regview d:\programs\oo1.0.\user\uno_packages\cache\services.rdb

you should get an output like this:

/ SERVICES
  / com.sun.star.frame.ProtocolHandler
Value: Type = RG_VALUETYPE_STRINGLIST
   Size = 45
   Len  = 1
   Data = 0 = oo.test.comp.MyService

Re: [dev] Best way to send a doc without saving it

2005-07-08 Thread Mathias Bauer
Magnus Timmerby wrote:
 Hi,

 I'd like to contribute one feature to OO, also I need some advice on the
 best way to do it. I checked the SDK docs and my conclusion is that there
 is no provision in the SDK, i.e. I need to work on the source. Suggestions
 are welcome.

 I want to add a custom export feature that typically would:
 - export the current doc to the chosen target file format
 - NOT bring up the file save dialog
 - but instead send the file with a HTTP POST to a web application

 Configuration for the web targets would include:
 - URL to target web server
 - optional POST parameters (used for metadata)

 I think it's getting more common with this type of integration. We have a
 few web applications that support receiving files via POST in this way,
 and with the correct parameters, the resulting effect is that you can
 push any doc into the target application into the right place, without
 going via file. Today we manually export and import PDFs 50 times per day
 so it would simplify our workflow immensely.

 Would this be of interest? And can you please help with some starting
 points in the SDK and/or the source?

OOo allows you to store a document to a stream, use the storeToURL()
method of the document and provide on OutputStream to it in the
arguments (Sequence of PropertyValue) of the call.

If you have a stream that both implements com.sun.star.io.XInputStream
and com.sun.star.io.XOutputStream (so preferably an object that
implements com.sun.star.io.XStream) you then can immediately use the
stream as PostData for a post request to your server.

It should be possible to use the com.sun.star.ucb.SimpleFileAccess
service to create such a stream. If you don't want to use Basic for your
implementation you can also use the com.sun.star.io.TempFile service
that directly implements a com.sun.star.io.XStream interface based on a
temporary file (a bug prevents using it in Basic currently).

The simplest way to post content given by a com.sun.star.io.XInputStream
to a server is to open(!) the URL of the server via Dispatch API. The
server is expected to return some HTML content, but I think it works
even without this.

I haven't any code here at hand, but maybe it gives you some guidance.
You can read more about storeToURL(), PostData and Dispatch API in
chapter 6 of our Developers Guide. All interfaces and services should be
documented in the API Reference documentation. Both are part of the SDK.

BTW: are you sure that using WebDAV to store the document directly one
the server isn't the better choice?

Best regards,
Mathias

  I just tried that, and all I get is:
common.rdb:

  So it isn't registered. So, what could I have done or not done to not
have it be registered?

  I had looked at your code and realized that I needed
BBGradebook.uno.Manifest in BBGradebook.uno.jar and that matched the
MANIFEST.MF that was in the jar file.
RegistrationClassName: gradebook.GradebookHandlerAddon

This class is my protocol handler, or at least where the factory is.

I now have my components from the idl in a separate project, and in a
jar file, and the protocol handler classes in another jar file.

Thank you for your help so far.
