Agree with that.

New fields would be more acceptable, since it will provide better version
compatibility.

Re:disallow init parameters at invoke time?

+1 to disallow it as init-parameters are not used at invoke time.

The init function invokes once and only once in users’ mind, they wouldn't
aware of reuse of the container.

This PR https://github.com/apache/openwhisk/pull/4559 added init-time
parameters. It allows those parameters to be specified on action
creation/updates as well as at invoke time.

This note is to solicit feedback on whether the controller should disallow
init-parameters at invoke time. The reason is that unless the activation is
a fresh (cold) activation, the init-parameters will not be observable by
the action (init-paramters are only sent at /init time and not /run time).

So it can be confusing although it is also convenient for rapid iterations
in the cloud (update/invoke pattern where the invoke is always cold after
an update).

Opinions and feedback?

Re: [DISCUSS] Alternating time for the community call

2019-12-19 Thread Bill Zong
There's no perfect time for all whiskers.
But 1am GMT seems too late for some European countries.

I’m OK with 11pm CST, only have to stay late bi-weekly would be acceptable.

Dear whiskers.

We have a tech interchange call every two weeks.
And the time for the call is as follows across all around the world.

- 2 PM GMT.
- 10 AM EST
- 7 AM PST
- 11 PM CST
- 12 AM KST/JST (midnight)

A few months back, I suggested moving the time 1 hour earlier and we
adjusted the time.
Previous discussion:
https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/1f7f9422762234edf4321c29c7f878cc09e60cca571364bd9b6da84a%40%3Cdev.openwhisk.apache.org%3E

But because of daylight saving time, now it became midnight for Chinese and
Korean again.

The last option can be having the call in alternating time.
So one of two calls in a month, we can have different times for each call.
Since there are pros and cons, I want to discuss this with you.
And if we decide to take this way, I will be willing to do my best to host
the call in the daytime in Asia.

But before that, I want to make sure how many of you are suffering from the
meeting time and whether the alternating time would let you attend the
meeting more.
If you "are", please let me know with your time zone.

Best regards
Dominic
