Re: [racket-dev] Pre-Release Checklist for v5.1

2011-02-05 Thread Matthew Flatt
Fixed.

The main problem is that `on-subwindow-event' implementations are more
restricted than they used to be. Due to the way that events are
dispatched, if an `on-subwindow-event' method takes too long or if it
requires threads other than the eventspace thread to run, then the
event being processed never makes it to the native control (even if
`on-subwindow-evet' returns #f). I think we may be able to improve the
"too long" restriction to some degree eventually, but I see no solution
to the synchronization restriction.

I made "orbit-mouse.rkt" work by changing the implementation of a queue
within FrTime, which makes the `on-subwindow-event' hooks used by Fred
sufficiently cooperative, and now mouse events can reach controls like
sliders.

Re: [racket-dev] Pre-Release Checklist for v5.1

2011-02-04 Thread Jay McCarthy
I've looked into this and I think it is a regression of GR2.

The dc<%> interface documentation lists a huge number of functions,
but racket/draw/private/dc-intf.rkt only has "draw-text" in the
interface. As far as I can tell, this is fine enough because all the
functions are implemented by the different dcs. But, it is a problem
because make-generic requires the interface object to have the method
name. In this case, FrTime needs draw-ellipse to work.

A simple way to test is to run frtime/demos/mouse.rkt

The FrTime code in question should really be rewritten/removed though,
because it is a fork of the graphics collects. But nonetheless, this
is a real gr2 regression.

Can you get me started with a pointer to the test suite (and how to
run it, if it isn't obvious)?

I'll have a look and fix it if it is straightforward.

Actually I got it backwards -- it's now 2.61, and I can make a 2.66

Oh, right --- I misread the patch and also gave the wrong path.

I expected to see both "configure.ac" and "configure" change in the
patch, but I can apply either your patch or Eli's to "configure.in" and
generate "configure".

I have a change that does that (disables plot if the directory is
missing). Is it a problem if configure becomes the result of Autoconf
2.61 (it's currently 2.66).

The problem was in the mz distro, which doesn't include plot.

I suspect that the "correct" way of doing this from GTK's perspective
is to make the image a child of the button, but not part of the label.

I pushed a fix or this.

Recent versions of Ubuntu are configured disable images that accompany
text labels within buttons. For now, I made `racket/gui' enable button
images globally within the application, although it should really
should be button-specific (and only for buttons, like the ones in "PLT
Games", that are configured to show images independent of the user's
preferences).

If I run the following on windows it works, but on linux (I tried
three different setups) I get the label without the bitmap.

  #lang racket/gui
(define f (new frame% [label "Foo"]))
  (new button%
   [label (list (read-bitmap
 (build-path (collection-path "games/mines") "mines.png"))
"Foo"

[racket-dev] Pre-Release Checklist for v5.1

2011-01-31 Thread Ryan Culpepper
Checklist items for the v5.1 release
(using the v5.0.99.900 release candidate build)

Search for your name to find relevant items, reply when you finish an
item (please indicate which item/s is/are done). Also, if you have any
commits that should have been picked, make sure that the changes are in.

Important: new builds are created without announcement, usually whenever
I pick a few commits. If you need to commit changes, please make sure
you tell me to pick it into the release branch.

--> Release candidates are at
-->   http://pre.racket-lang.org/release/installers

Please use these installers (or source bundles) -- don't test from
your own git clone (don't test v5.1.0.1 by mistake!). To get
the tests directory in such a directory, you can do this:
  cd ...racket-root...
  git archive --remote=git://git.racket-lang.org/plt.git release \
  -- collects/tests | tar x
