Re: New Thanks-to and IDEs pages for review

2018-04-06 Thread Carlos Rovira
Hi Piotr,

changes are live!

to fit logos, I must to pass all in a software to put in concrete sizes, so
all looks in the same width and height and aspect ratios. for that reason
the logo was showing too bigger.

best :)

Re: New Thanks-to and IDEs pages for review

2018-04-06 Thread Carlos Rovira
Hi Piotr,

ok, I'm to leave now, but I'll do ASAIC.
Can you provide a logo in PNG with transparent bg?. That one is white below.

In the other hand, just my constructive opinion. The logo used in website
seems to me more modern and clean than the moon one, for that reason I
choose the one it's now
But this is up to moonshine to decide and we put it accordingly, just my
opinion here since, you know, I always put much care for UX/UI and things
look and feel. A good logo can sell a product! :)

Thanks!

ok, we don't expect that in thanks to companies, but we should expect that
as people use Royale in their Apps or if start to be a relevant technology
companies and other third parties should start to put logos and referrals
to us saying "we have the skills to develop with Apache Royale if you want
us to do so"
in IDEs both has links to us, what I think is normal

When it is not black and white then the list needs to be explained as a
footnote.

We really do need to make sure that people know that new or unknown supporters
can be added. Apache is a tax free non-profit and must remain vendor neutrality.

Re: New Thanks-to and IDEs pages for review

2018-04-01 Thread Carlos Rovira
Hi,

Regarding IntelliJ: Piotr uses it for Application development, so I think
we can maintain JetBrains thanks to.
But as there's no body using it as an IDE for develop Royale apps, and
there's no support, we should remove it from IDEs.
I don't think we should confuse visitors with more explanations, since a
webpage should be simple and black or white.

Regarding thanks to for Prominic and BowlerHat, I agree that there's some
kind of relation, maybe not directly related.
We can add them, although is on the limit since is somehow more related to
its own projects than to Royale, although that projects
reverts in part in our community since users of their IDEs are users of our
community.

So ok, I'll be adding both now and removing IntelliJ from IDEs

thanks

Carlos

Re: New Thanks-to and IDEs pages for review

2018-04-01 Thread Dave Fisher
Hi -

A few comments;

(1) We need to have a disclaimer of sorts after the logos.
For thanks-to: “These are companies that are known to have helped the project.
If you know of others please let us know.”
For IDEs: “These IDEs either offer native support or can be made to work for
Royale development. If you know of any others and wish to share your
environments then please let us know.”

(2) If an IDE requires special non-out of the box configuration then we ought
to have a special page to link to where we provide that configuration. I think
that this would cover the IntelliJ case.

(3) The links should be “nofollow” links as Justin mentioned.

(4) Going forward we need to be carefully to not pay any favorites what so
ever. If a company demonstrably meets these supports we must include the links.

(5) If any of these third parties wants to link back to us then we should be
sure to check to make sure that they are meeting Apache Branding requirements.

Regards,
Dave

Re: New Thanks-to and IDEs pages for review

2018-04-01 Thread Andrew Wetmore
There are two tiers of IDE support, AIUI: those that just naturally support
Royale, and those that can be tricked into supporting it if you know what
you're doing. Maybe we should list both types, explaining the difference?

No, Intellij has never worked for me with Royale. Although I do use
Intellij for all my other development.
More than showing our gratitude, I think adding this would just confuse our
users.

I am doing all my SDK and app work using VS Code and the NextGenAS plugin.

Thanks,
Om

P.S. I am considering building support for Royale in Intellij via a
plugin. I will test the waters when I get a chance and see how hard it is.

Re: New Thanks-to and IDEs pages for review

2018-04-01 Thread Piotr Zarzycki
That's bothers me also. Anyone from the PMCs and committers didn't spent
any time to fill out instruction page with Intellij [1]. I assume that
anyone is not using actively it for Application development.

However I'm personally using Intellij for coding in SDK. - This makes me +1
to have JetBrains in the Thanks To, but does that mean we should put that
IDE in the IDE page ?
For application development I'm using Moonshine.

I think intellij with some tricks is able to work for Application
developer, but do we want to support IDE which is actually not supporting
fully Royale ?

Carlos,

One more thought about Thanks To. Although Prominic or BowlerHatLLC do not
provide full time employees to work on Royal - still that two companies
provide indirect services to that project, through the IDEs.

I would say even more - If there is a situation where for some reason
something is wrong in the SDK which makes breaks in the IDE - I'm
responsible for fixing that as part of my work on Moonshine project.
Believe me I have fixed several issues in Royale thanks to that
opportunity!

Thanks,
Piotr

Re: New Thanks-to and IDEs pages for review

2018-04-01 Thread Carlos Rovira
I think IntelliJ doesn't have prime Royale support, but AFAICT people are
using this IDE with some concrete configurations. I think Om is one of them.
Don't know if that could be a problem, but if people are working with
IntelliJ in some way, although there's no real support (i.e Royale project
creation, royale library creation,...)
for me it's ok to list there

thanks for your revision! :)
