Podling Report Reminder - October 2018

2018-09-19 Thread jmclean
Dear podling,

This email was sent by an automated system on behalf of the Apache
Incubator PMC. It is an initial reminder to give you plenty of time to
prepare your quarterly board report.

The board meeting is scheduled for Wed, 17 October 2018, 10:30 am PDT.
The report for your podling will form a part of the Incubator PMC
report. The Incubator PMC requires your report to be submitted 2 weeks
before the board meeting, to allow sufficient time for review and
submission (Wed, October 03).

Please submit your report with sufficient time to allow the Incubator
PMC, and subsequently board members to review and digest. Again, the
very latest you should submit your report is 2 weeks prior to the board
meeting.

Candidate names should not be made public before people are actually
elected, so please do not include the names of potential committers or
PPMC members in your report.

Thanks,

The Apache Incubator PMC

Submitting your Report

--

Your report should contain the following:

*   Your project name
* A brief description of your project, which assumes no knowledge of
the project or necessarily of its field
* A list of the three most important issues to address in the move
towards graduation.
* Any issues that the Incubator PMC or ASF Board might wish/need to be
aware of
* How has the community developed since the last report
* How has the project developed since the last report.
* How does the podling rate their own maturity.

This should be appended to the Incubator Wiki page at:

https://wiki.apache.org/incubator/October2018

Note: This is manually populated. You may need to wait a little before
this page is created from a template.

Mentors
---

Mentors should review reports for their project(s) and sign them off on
the Incubator wiki page. Signing off reports shows that you are
following the project - projects that are not signed may raise alarms
for the Incubator PMC.

Re: IP clearance needed for the logo?

2018-09-19 Thread Billie Rinaldi
See also relevant portions of the license agreement documentation (
http://apache.org/licenses/):
"For a corporation that has assigned employees to work on an Apache
project, a Corporate CLA (CCLA) is available for contributing intellectual
property via the corporation, that may have been assigned as part of an
employment agreement.

Note that a Corporate CLA does not remove the need for every developer to
sign their own ICLA as an individual, which covers both contributions which
are owned and those that are not owned by the corporation signing the CCLA.

The CCLA legally binds the corporation, so it must be signed by a person
with authority to enter into legal contracts on behalf of the corporation."

So if the logos are owned by the company, only a CCLA is necessary. If they
are jointly owned, or if there are additional contributions owned by the
individual contributor, an ICLA is also required. Typically these
agreements are only required for committers, but in this case where the
contribution is not being directly submitted by the author, I think it
would be good to have the agreement on record.

Talked to Billie about this -- trying to make sure I have the situation
correct. IMO, the question that needs to be answered is: who can assert
copyright ownership over the images.

Typically, copyright assertions are one of two entities: the individual
who created some "work" or a company which paid the individual to create
the work on their behalf.

From what I see, Robert David posted images from Susan Härtig, who both
work for Semantic Web. Thus, were these images created as a part of
Susan's professional responsibilities at Semantic Web Company? If so, a
CCLA from Semantic Web Company should be filed with the ASF. If not, an
affirmative statement from Susan (or a trusted member of Rya
acknowledging on Susan's behalf) would just be required, creating an
audit-trail of Susan's intent to grant ownership of these images to Rya.

Maybe Robert/Susan can comment? Or Adina, you can chase this offline?

Hi,

Does anyone know what (if anything) needs to be done to be able to

Maybe our mentors can weigh in?

RE: rya logo - which one do you like?

2018-09-19 Thread Lotts, David
I like them all, but my favorites are:

1. top right with Eric's third moon
2. second page with the Rya in negative space. (Could this get two more moons?
 Turn Diagonal?)
3. Colored one at the bottom right, maybe with a larger moon like 2 above.
4. Upper right, love the abstraction. Feeling of movement, like a train logo.

My vote is for the top-right, definitely with the addition of a third moon
(possibly a small one on the ring, right above the top of the circle).

All,

I also like the top-right and bottom-right logos. I might suggest adding a
third moon to the top-right logo to tie in with the triples motif and the RDF
logo better (possibly under the 'Y').

We now learned that attachments are stripped out when emailing to Apache
lists - good to know for the future.
The logos are at
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__cwiki.apache.org_confluence_display_RYA_Rya-2B=DwIFaQ=Nwf-pp4xtYRe0sCRVM8_LWH54joYF7EKmrYIdfxIq10=RaJkRMooYbg4vmML14E10F9hYEBLOeOHS3mAimFNgqQ=2QwruslNF6XjDqwWVm6B6qhjA3UdVj9FnbQHqMzHSZM=um_CpuxGoXBLnuz-dBmwCG1fPP5RuHEc9QAqooDDbaY=
logo+proposals

Until now we have:
- 1.5 likes for the bottom right corner in ryaLogos.pdf, with the colored
moons (Caleb, Kevin)
- 2.5 likes for the top right corner with RYA in the middle of the ring
(Kevin, Mark-off list, Adina)

Do other people want to express their preference? I would like to have a
decision by tomorrow, so we can order some stickers before ApacheCon.

Susan, would it be possible to have the top right corner logo with the dots
having red-ish color instead of blue, to go with the rya.apache.org website
color scheme (that color is #990033)?

Thank you,
Adina
