You have missed something ;)

After testing with a clean copy I have found two additional issues:

  - The myfaces-extensions.jar is not downloaded
  - Due to the tomcat integration the usecases application is not buildable
without tomcat.

In addition the patch contains a fix for a typo in default.properties, and a
small correction for the build instructions in the release notes.

I am sorry if i offend Frank for using your thread instead of creating a
new one. But my question is also slightly related to the ViewController
and i am also using Shale. The thread also addresses to all, especially
Craig, so i think it may be appropriate. I do not want to create a new
thread since it seems to be so simple. But who know that only Craig can
answer it just like my question about container-authenticated login
using Shale.

The question was asked in myfaces user list but i do not get any
response. In essence, is there any way to assign a target window name
either under Jsf or shale to your first forward page? Here is what i
have tried but it does not seem to work:

The entry index page conditionally forwards the request to different
section and has:

  Then, the /public/section1/index.jsp has:
<%
response.sendRedirect("http://localhost:8080/public/section1/welcome.jsf";);
%>

I need to assign the window target to portal since i want to get back to
the same original portal window from its child process.

Thanks
BaTien

It can be considered an appropriate question for the list, but
netiquette still says it should be asked on a separate thread. The
topic is totally different from Frank's question, which boils down to
"how can I do what a view controller does for me without Shale".

Shale (or pure JSF, for that matter) has *no* facilities directly
related to container managed authentication. That doesn't mean you
cannot use them together ... it's just that doing so is you combining
the technologies, not the CMA facility leveraging JSF (or vice versa).

You cannot assign a window target, even on a non-authentication based
request, using a RequestDispatcher.forward(). The *client* has to ask
for the result of a request to be returned to a particular target ...
the server has no portable (individual browsers might give you back
doors, like a custom HTTP header) way to control or influence that
decision.

So, you're going to have to do two things:

* Make your client do another request

* Make the client ask for that result with a "target" attribute set.

I'm afraid I don't do enough with frames or multiple windows to know
how to do this off the top of my hand, but any solution that works
with pure JSP pages will most likely also work with JSF (and therefore
with Shale).

Craig

Fixed in nightly build 20050829.

Note that I hadn't downloaded myfaces-extensions.jar deliberately, since the app
itself didn't need any of the extended components. I don't have any problems
with including it in the downloading being performed, though, since lots of
people using MyFaces *will* want to use them.

requiredif deprecated?

2005-08-28 Thread Don Brown
Is requiredif deprecated? The documentation [1] indicates it is,
however, I can see no evidence of that in the source code. In
particular, the validateRequiredIf() method of o.a.s.v.FieldChecks
hasn't been marked as such.

Whatever it is, we should at least be consistent about it.

It looks like James Turner deprecated it (or intended to) in April 2003:

http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=struts-dev&m=105042119528289&w=2

but as you've observed, the deprecation only happened in the docs and
not the code.

If we're all happy with validwhen as the replacement, we should get
rid of the requiredif code, IMO. I'm not sure we need to go through
the process of deprecating the source for another release before we do
that.

Gary has been quite busy proposing code for the "Clay" plug-in on
Shale, and has also been supportive on the dev and user mailing lists
(for both Struts and MyFaces) ... we look forward to his energy being
available to the entire Struts project as well.

Welcome, Gary! (And now you can process some of your own outstanding

Re: requiredif deprecated?

2005-08-28 Thread Niall Pemberton
I'm not convinced that validwhen is\was such a great replacement for
requiredif. I think it has caused as much confusion as requiredif did Maybe
the EL Validator thats been proposed will be better and we should hold off
removing requiredif until thats available as a replacement:

I applied a fix to the existing parser to close this bug. The tapestry
integration proposed by Manfred Klug will be addressed as a later
enhancement. I will leave this ticket open for review at a later date.

Fwd: [sandbox] September archive of components

2005-08-28 Thread James Mitchell
I'd like to propose we create our own 'archive' and move any
unmaintained code over.

I would think the most logical place would be:

/struts/archive/trunk

(this, of course will *not* be included via svn:externals into /
struts/current)

I can't think of why we would want make 'branches' or 'tags', but
there's always that option.

So, what would we move there? For starters...

/struts/sandbox/artimus
/struts/sandbox/mailreader-chain
/struts/sandbox/scaffold
/struts/sandbox/struts-jericho ???
/struts/sandbox/workflow???

??? - meaning, I'm not sure what's going on with them, but I haven't
seen activity in years

Your thoughts?

Ok, the question I have is can we just switch all number validations to use the
Locale, or would that break backwards-compatibility. I'm leaning to just
switching the current validators since the patch would go into 1.3. Any
objections?

I guess this will cause a problem with the JavaScript validators working
differently from the server side ones.

Good point. Perhaps new validators would be best, bringing our total up to 26
IIRC. intLocale?

Is requiredif deprecated? The documentation [1] indicates it is,
however, I can see no evidence of that in the source code. In
particular, the validateRequiredIf() method of o.a.s.v.FieldChecks
hasn't been marked as such.

I'm not sure we need to go through
the process of deprecating the source for another release before we do
that.

Whatever it is, we should at least be consistent about it.

Well, I'm not sure of when, but this issue has been fixed. The values that go
into javascript variables are being quoted, so this problem is avoided.

Re: svn commit: r264062 - in /struts/sandbox/trunk/ti: ./ core/src/java/org/apache/ti/ core/src/java/org/apache/ti/config/ core/src/test/org/apache/ti/config/

2005-08-28 Thread James Mitchell
Before I committed this, the existing maven build would run without a
single complaint.
After this commit, there are test failures (on my system - Mac OS X
on 1.5)

Maybe I should explain...
The old project.xml had the elements out of order and specified 'src/
java' and 'src/test' as is typically the default. Since the actual
source was in 'core/src/java' and 'core/src/test', instead of passing
100% of no tests, we now pass 7 out of 15 tests.

Here's the odd part. If I run the junit test right from eclipse
(3.1GA), they pass just fine. It's when I run Maven and it runs the
tests that I get failure.

Can someone verify?

2005-08-28 Thread Don Brown
I'm getting two failures and 6 errors running "maven jar" from
sandbox/ti. Also, when running "maven jar" from core, it isn't finding
any source files, java or test.

After this commit, there are test failures (on my system - Mac OS X on

Maybe I should explain...
The old project.xml had the elements out of order and specified 'src/
java' and 'src/test' as is typically the default. Since the actual
source was in 'core/src/java' and 'core/src/test', instead of passing
100% of no tests, we now pass 7 out of 15 tests.

Here's the odd part. If I run the junit test right from eclipse
(3.1GA), they pass just fine. It's when I run Maven and it runs the
tests that I get failure.

Can someone verify?

2005-08-28 Thread Rich Feit
One other comment... there are actually two separate source modules:
'core' and 'java5' (the latter contains annotation definitions, and
targets java5 binary). Both need to be built. What I was doing to
build/run all this was:

   cd core
   maven jar jar:install
   cd ../java5
   maven jar jar:install
   cd ../samples
   maven war

I don't really know maven well -- was learning as I went. But I *think*
that separating the modules into separate source directories is the way
to go. Ideally, if you did 'maven jar' from the root, it would build
both 'core' and 'java5'. Not sure how to do that, though. Any thoughts?

We could define 'todo' as a custom Javadoc tag, and change those to
@todo entries. That's what I did for Commons FileUpload, and I prefer
that to random comments.

Re: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Project struts-core (in module struts) failed

2005-08-28 Thread Niall Pemberton
It seemed that for some reason "compile-tests" task can't seem to find the
classes compiled in the previous "compile" task - even though the classpath
includes the path for them

I could reproduce the same error by removing - but can't figure out why its not working on gump.
The only thing I noticed was that the line endings svn property wasn't set -
but correcting that didn't make any difference. Anyway - gump for Struts
isn't currently running because commons-io is failing, but it will probably
start failing again once the commons-io issue is resolved :-(

Hrmmm...I was incorrectly assuming sandbox/ti/project.xml was the
main build file. I think I see what you were doing now.

I did not notice the core/project.xml - that makes sense.

I've fixed that part of build, and I'll check it in shortly.

I was also able to do a complete distribution (including maven
reports) for ti core...woohoo! Looks good!

(The last report is my favorite - jcoverage ;)

Maybe I should explain...
The old project.xml had the elements out of order and specified
'src/ java' and 'src/test' as is typically the default. Since the
actual source was in 'core/src/java' and 'core/src/test', instead
of passing 100% of no tests, we now pass 7 out of 15 tests.
Here's the odd part. If I run the junit test right from eclipse
(3.1GA), they pass just fine. It's when I run Maven and it runs
the tests that I get failure.

We could define 'todo' as a custom Javadoc tag, and change those to
@todo entries. That's what I did for Commons FileUpload, and I prefer
that to random comments.

We could easily setup the project.xml and maven.xml in sandbox/ti to
do full builds, and still allow us to jump down to core or samples
for quick work.

If you want, I will go ahead and setup the maven build to do
basically what you describe here.

Log:
Added Maven build files for Shale Framework
- Tests are skipped in core-library due to circular dependency with
test-framework
- core-library currently builds only one artifact rather than three (core,
spring and tiles)
- No changes were made to the Ant build files (except a few lines in
build.properties.sample)

Maybe I should explain...
The old project.xml had the elements out of order and specified
'src/ java' and 'src/test' as is typically the default. Since the
actual source was in 'core/src/java' and 'core/src/test', instead
of passing 100% of no tests, we now pass 7 out of 15 tests.

Here's the odd part. If I run the junit test right from eclipse
(3.1GA), they pass just fine. It's when I run Maven and it runs
the tests that I get failure.

Can someone verify?

I didn't mean the low percentage. I meant how nice Maven puts all
this together for you with one simple entry in the
buildgives me chills thinking back to how we "used to do it".

The test coverage report also gives people a way to get involved even
if they don't know that much about the project. Like me ;) Now I
can go off and work on completing the easy part.test cases ;)

What version did you see this problem? I'm looking at the source code in trunk
and all the tags use the same code to determine the index. Are you setting the
indexed="true" attribute?

Well, it is certainly appreciated. Thus far, I've been trying to focus
on capability before marketing, but as I'm learning in my day job, that

If you want, I will go ahead and setup the maven build to do
basically what you describe here.

One other comment... there are actually two separate source

What I was doing to build/run all this was:

   cd core
   maven jar jar:install
   cd ../java5
   maven jar jar:install
   cd ../samples
   maven war

I don't really know maven well -- was learning as I went. But I
*think* that separating the modules into separate source
directories is the way to go. Ideally, if you did 'maven jar' from
the root, it would build both 'core' and 'java5'. Not sure how to
do that, though. Any thoughts?

Maybe I should explain...
The old project.xml had the elements out of order and specified
'src/ java' and 'src/test' as is typically the default. Since
the actual source was in 'core/src/java' and 'core/src/test',
instead of passing 100% of no tests, we now pass 7 out of 15 tests.

Here's the odd part. If I run the junit test right from eclipse
(3.1GA), they pass just fine. It's when I run Maven and it runs
the tests that I get failure.

Can someone verify?

Log:
Added Maven build files for Shale Framework
- Tests are skipped in core-library due to circular dependency with
test-framework
- core-library currently builds only one artifact rather than three (core,
spring and tiles)
- No changes were made to the Ant build files (except a few lines in
build.properties.sample)

Must be the night for Maven. :) Instructions, such as they are, live here
for now:

  http://wiki.wsmoak.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ShaleMavenBuild

Feel free to add the missing parts... most of them need descriptions, etc.
Shale should be getting picked up as part of the site (and should not look
any different since at this point the files were just moved and only the
navigation changed.)

Maven is _not_ being cooperative about building a recursive multiproject
site. With the extended/inherited build files, it gets into a loop. Shale
and Sandbox (with Ti beneath it) should both have their own multiproject
sites linked from the main Struts site, but I've had no luck so far.

Hmm ... that seems like an architectural issue for MyFaces (or else I'm not up
to date on their current dependency tree). Isn't myfaces-extensions.jar where
the Tomahawk components are?

I know there was talk about abstracting out the stuff that is shared between the
MyFaces JSF implementation and the MyFaces extended components into a commonly
shared jar, and that makes perfect sense.

The issues raised in this ticket are the tip of the iceberg on a bunch of
improvements that are needed to the dialog facility with regards to
simultaneously active dialogs by the same user, and the back button. Deferring
those to a post-1.0.0 milestone (but not forgetting them), so they can be
addressed all at the same time.

The comment on Bug# 36393 indicates that the myfaces-extensions.jar is
