Re: [Dev] GSOC 2014 proposal 5 - WSO2 Deployment Engine (GUI Tool)

2014-03-09 Thread Thilina Piyasundara
Hi,

I think it's better if you can do the project 'Proposal 6: AMI baker for
WSO2 Private PaaS' as you have much into systems side.

For the GUI tool project it need some knowledge and experience in UI/UX
things.

In 'Proposal 6: AMI baker for WSO2 Private PaaS' we need a framework to
create AMIs for all (or at least AWS/OpenStack/VMWare).

Create an AMI based on user inputs like,
Operating system - distribution, version, Processor type, etc.
Softwares to install - (using a package manager and sometimes without a
package manager.)
Add custom scripts to run on bootup.

do things like,
publish AMI as a public, private or paid AMI to a given region.
How to manage different users/aws account API keys.
Save an almost created config (Like a json template to be modify in
future.) and re-create an AMI using a template.

and do some basic stuff like,
proper naming and versioning to AMIs.
Remove Authorized Keys
Delete history
Empty log files
Remove sensitive data
Delete all downloaded packages and files

Re: [Dev] AppFactory app listing page (home page) takes a long time to load when there are about 20 apps

2014-03-09 Thread Amila Maha Arachchi
Number of apps I am having is mentioned in $Subject :)

We are having M8 in our deployment. Scenario is I have created nearly 20
apps in my tenant. After I login, my home page does not get loaded. But
when I try with a tenant with 4-5 apps, it is loaded.

If a patch can be provided easily, we would like to have one. If it is
complex and affects multiple places, then we can live with this coz we will
upgrading to latest AF packs about in a months time.

Re: [Dev] AppFactory app listing page (home page) takes a long time to load when there are about 20 apps

2014-03-09 Thread Shiroshica Kulatilake
Hi,

I think we need to do the following in order to sort this out.

1. Get details of the scenario and do a similar scenario setup on the
latest released pack we have and verify.
2. If the result is good we can patch cloud preview only if the particular
fix for this is contained within itself - i.e. nothing else is affected.
3. If the fix is not contained and this is a showstopper for cloudpreview
we may have to see whether we can fix in that version.

Thank you,
Shiro

Re: [Dev] AppFactory app listing page (home page) takes a long time to load when there are about 20 apps

2014-03-09 Thread Dimuthu Leelarathne
Hi,

The improvements done by AsankaD in M9/M10 should be enough, IMO. But worth
checking if it is broken.

thanks,
dimuthu

 Hi Amila,

AsankaD did some improvements on this page and it is working fine now
even when the number of apps is large. It is there in the latest pack. I
guess these improvements are not there in the pack hosted in cloud preview.

Re: [Dev] Is the functionality for applying security policies obsolete?

2014-03-09 Thread Jackie Wheeler
Hi Rukshani,

Here are some comments for you.

1. Whereas the title should use title-case capitalization, the headings
should use sentence-case capitalization. So "Binding Level" should be
"Binding level", "Binding Operation Level" should be "Binding operation
level", etc.

2. When there are multiple sections on a page, insert a table of contents
at the top of the page and set the max heading level to 3.

3. The following text appears twice on the page, once at the beginning of
the section and then again just before the info on services.xml:

*Defining Policies at Bindings*

The WSO2 Carbon has the ability to apply policies at the binding hierarchy.
You can apply policies at three different policy subjects in the binding
hierarchy. They are:

   - *Binding level*
   - *Binding operation level*
   - *Binding message level*

4. Isn't the information on services.xml and the policy editor the part
that was supposed to be removed?

5. Rather than point people to library articles, please review those
articles and work the appropriate content into the documentation, where we
can maintain it and keep it updated.

6. "The WSO2 Carbon" should be "WSO2 ESB".

7. We talk about the bindings hierarchy without giving any explanation as
to what bindings are. Since this is a fairly technical concept, we should
give a very brief introduction to it so people have context for the type of
bindings we're talking about here.

Thanks,
Jackie

Any idea of the number of applications you are part of? We will do a
testing around this in M12 and will improve.

thank you.

Re: [Dev] GSoC 2014 : Implement Registry Extension (RXT) 2.0 + Associated UI support

2014-03-09 Thread Eranda Sooriyabandara
Hi Iresha,
The deliverables to this project would be,

1. A jason configuration for replacing current RXT configuration model
2. Plug that model to the existing UI generator model (This should be
refactor or replace our old UI generator)
3. Plug that model to the existing Governance API
4. Implementing nested RXT support - Currently we only allow to have basic
data support in field. But we need to improve this to define another
datatype inside a datatype. I'll explain this in detail later.

thanks
Eranda

Re: [Dev] get more details about Proposal 2 - Implement support for a binary protocol for the SOAP/REST service requests

2014-03-09 Thread Kasun Gajasinghe
Hi Heshan,

The idea of this project is to reduce the latency of internal service
calls. By internal service calls I mean the requests between Enterprise
Service Bus to AS/DSS. In a usual deployment, you will have WSO2 ESB
proxying the requests between a client and back-end service hosting
products such as Application Server, Data Services Server. Currently, the
requests are served via HTTP requests in text formats (soap/xml/json/...).
Serializing text formats like XML can be slow, and has a larger size. In
comparison, serializing to binary format is much faster, and the serialized
data has a smaller size.

There are several binary protocol implementations available already, so you
do not have to write one. :) But you need to integrate a chosen
implementation with WSO2 AS possibly as an Axis2 transport. As a start, can
you do brief research around how protobuff works? You may focus on the
format of the .proto, and how to write the messages. The tutorial at [1] is
really descriptive, and make sure you follow the all the steps. Then, share
the findings you got.

After that, you also need to get an understanding on how the axis2
transports work before we write an axis2 transport for a binary protocol.
You will need to read the documentation, and dig deep into understanding
the existing transports code. Let's discuss this as we go forward.
