 With Carbon Metrics, we collect metrics via Java API calls and not via

 We use Coda Hale's (Dropwizard) Metrics library and there is no known
 performance issues with it.

 See following threads in metrics-user group:
 Overhead of collecting performance stats and publishing in JMX

 metrics performance

 One concern would be periodic reporting to database by the JDBC reporter
 we developed. It runs in a scheduled executor and I guess it shouldn't have
 much impact on the server. We will be doing performance tests with MB and
 we can confirm whether there is an overhead with Metrics.

 Thanks!

Re: [Dev] [AM1.9.0] Long running test for 10000 token scenario

2015-06-16 Thread Lakshani Gamage
Hi all,

I followed the following steps to setup the distributed setup.

1. Created one cluster for gateways.
  WSO2AM_DB is shared between two gateways.

2. Created another cluster for key managers.
  WSO2AM_DB, governance and config registries and User store are shared
between two key managers.

3. Created one cluster for publisher and store.
   WSO2AM_DB, governance and config registries and User store are
shared between publisher and store.

4. One API is created with gold tier. Changed the allowed requests of gold
tier to 9000 per minute.

5. Then Subscribed to the created API from store and got the consumer key.

6. Sample token keys and consume key were added to WSO2AM_DB.

7. jmeter scripted was run. It gets access tokens from sample text file and
sends API calls to  gateway.

Thank you,

Re: [Dev] [Carbon] Carbon Managed Thread Pool Implementation

[adding kasunG, Sameera, Kishanthan]

@RuwanA,

+1 for the clarification. Finally decided to temporarily continue with my
own Thread. However; Without any resource limitation creating Thread for
each subscriber disconnect scenario is not a good practice IMO.

@All

For the initial question; It would be a great If let the community know Is
there any Carbon Thread Pool implemented in Carbon platform?

Thank you

On Thu, Jun 11, 2015 at 8:38 AM, Ruwan Abeykoon ruw...@wso2.com wrote:

 Hi Rasika,
 I think your requirement is to attempt reconnection when some external
 connectivity is lost.

 In this case I think it is better to handle this with your own thread,
 which is quite similar to the code you have posted initially. The thread
 can be created and kept in your connector level (say connection recovery
 thread). You can make it null once reconnection completed and release any
 resources, so that the thread can be GC ed properly.

 I think managing dedicated thread is better as it needs to be done at a
 very low level.
 Thread pool is more suited to handle
 1. common, extensible, pluggable, business workers
 2. I/O read and write

 but it is not good to use thread pool to handle connection management
 logic, because of timing and pool starvation. Also it will give you less
 coupling, good modularity and testability.

 WDYT?

 Cheers,

 Agree, since rows will get executed randomly with spark, inter-row
 operations are not very meaningful.
 But you can slightly modify the implementation of the Fill operation,
 such as, to fill values based on an expression/static-value/mean etc. (not
 depending on other rows)..

 Thanks,
 Supun

 Other than the ones you have mentioned in the proposal, think its better
 to have Translate operation as well (to create a new column based on
 an existing column).

 Hi all,

 I am currently working on generating spark transformations related to

 Data wrangler provides sufficient parameters to re-create these at
 spark.I have successfully implemented delete and split operations of
 wrangler in spark.

 Once this phase is completed, I can either directly generate these
 scripts at wrangler or use the javascript output and convert it to spark
 depending on the implementation.

Re: [Dev] [ML] Progress so far with DL4J

2015-06-16 Thread Thushan Ganegedara
Hi,

I couldn't find any reports on high accuracy on any set of data. The
popular datasets seem to be Iris dataset and MNIST dataset. However, their
example page on git hub shows several results for different techniques and
datasets (https://github.com/deeplearning4j/dl4j-0.0.3.3-examples). And as
it can be seen, the accuracies mentioned are quite low. (However, the
developers claim that this is because they have run the examples with less
number of nodes and less iterations)

 accuracy I could find reported was around 0.5 F1 score for MNIST, which is

 basic deep network)

 I'm currently trying to delve in to the code for DL4J and figure out

 learning process which causes the algorithm to learn poorly.

[Dev] [carbon][is]Listener registration in user profile component

2015-06-16 Thread Damith Senanayake
Hi,

I'm trying to register a user operation event listener from the package
org.wso2.carbon.identity.user.profile.mgt and I have registered it as
follows

  protected void activate(ComponentContext ctxt) {

UserRenameEventListener listener = new UserRenameEventListener();

ctxt.getBundleContext().registerService(UserOperationEventListener.class.getName(),listener,null);

try {
if (log.isDebugEnabled()) {
log.debug(User Profile Mgt bundle is activated );
}
} catch (Throwable e) {
log.error(Failed to activate ProfileMgt bundle , e);
}
}

However, when debugged, I noticed that the method 'activate' doesn't get
hit. I tried logging it using a debug log, and also tried remote debugging.
This method doesn't get called, yet the component is up and active.

Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks in advance for any help...

Re: [Dev] [GSoC-2015] Proposal 11: Recommendation Solution for WSO2 Machine Learner

2015-06-16 Thread Madawa Soysa
Hi,

I have developed an sample application to generate recommendations using
Apache Spark MLlib and Java. Project source code can be found in GitHub[1]
https://github.com/madawas/spark-recommendation. Output can be taken in
any format and in the current app, I'm printing the output to the console.
The data set used can be found here[2]

Please look in to this and provide feedback.

Next I'm going to modify the application to read data from implicit data
(page views, likes, time spent on page) and infer a rating. I'm referring
to [3]

Also is there any idea on how to extract data from websites?

Hi Eranda,

Thanks for the quick reply.
Since this check was implemented to stop missing associations in endpoints
which means we need to keep the store location naming convention[1] as it
is. I have one small question if we keep this validation in delete
functionality user have to crete a new endpoint each and every time and
attach associations or else update the endpoint and reattached the missing

 I try this out locally and currently facing some issues due to missing

[Dev] Refactoring publisher action nav bar

2015-06-16 Thread Udara Rathnayake
Hi All,

While discussing UI related changes for this[1] with Dakshika, $subject
came up.

Following is the existing action nav bar within asset browsing page,

Initially we decided to move overview tab from the action bar, since it's
not bound to a particular asset level action in first sight.We can give a
different name to avoid above interpretation,

Eg:- View Gadget

But when we browse the particular overview page ideally we need to remove
this tab(overview) from action bar (May be we can put it in the leftmost
location of the same nav bar). And we need to do the same for other actions
too.

Thoughts?

Re: [Dev] [ML] Progress so far with DL4J

2015-06-16 Thread Thushan Ganegedara
Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

As for the moment I haven't tried CNN. However, we do not need CNNs for the
MNIST dataset. With a 3-layer SAE (Stacked AE) we can easily reach an
accuracy of 98%+ (Without any special regularization). As I've tested this
in python with a hand-written SAE

Also, CNN creates quite an ovehead with many sub-steps (convolution,
subsampling, pooling) as far as I know about it. CNNs do quite a good job
for high-resolution images, but in this case it will create a substantial
overhead.

However, I will try it and see. Thank you for your suggestion

 is the accuracy?

 Dear all,

 *Poor Accuracy*
 I have been testing DL4J extensively with *MNIST and Iris* datasets
 (Small and Full). However, I was unable to get a reasonable accuracy with
 DL4J for the aforementioned datasets. The F1-score was around 0.02, which
 is very low.

 I tried with different settings mainly for the following attributes

 Weight initialization
 Gradient Descent
 Iterations
 Type of units: Autoencoder/RBM

 But none of the settings gave a reasonable accuracy. Furthermore, the
 predicted values for the test data usually *belong to 1 or 2 classes *(e.g.
 when trained on MNIST dataset, the program predict 0 and 1 only, though
 there are 10 possible classes)

 Also there are many reports of *poor accuracy of DL4J.* The best
 accuracy I could find reported was around 0.5 F1 score for MNIST, which is
 still very low. (e.g. MNIST can easily reach 0.9+ accuracy for even a
 basic deep network)

 I'm currently trying to delve in to the code for DL4J and figure out
 how the learning is done. I'm assuming there are some faults in the
 learning process which causes the algorithm to learn poorly.

 Thank you

[Dev] [IS] System error while logging in as tenant admin

2015-06-16 Thread Damith Senanayake
Hi,

I have logged into the wso2 management console of the identity server, and
created a tenant domain called test.com, admin username admin and password
= password.

Next when I logout from super tenant and try to login with the said
credential, I get the following error on the logs

2015-06-16 16:16:08,693] @test.com [1] [IS]ERROR
{org.wso2.carbon.core.services.authentication.AuthenticationAdmin} -
System error while Authenticating/Authorizing User : Error in looking up
data source: Name [jdbc/WSO2CarbonDB] is not bound in this Context. Unable
to find [jdbc].

and this prevents me from logging in. Is there any other setting that needs
to change?

Let's enable Metrics by default in MB. There shouldn't be much impact by
Metrics. We can confirm when we do performance tests.

I will do the configuration change in Metric feature [1].

Re: [Dev] [MB]Shall we enable carbon matrices in MB by default?

 Hi,

 Is there a way to find if metrics are enabled and then only collect
 metrics. Same as we do in writing debug logs. (log.ifDebugEnabled())

This is done internally. If Metrics feature is disabled or particular level
is disabled, the particular metric is not processed. In addition, the
Metrics reporters also have a filter to check whether a Metric is enabled
before going ahead with the report method. So, there is no need to have
guard conditions like in logging libraries.

 Thanks.

 Let's enable Metrics by default in MB. There shouldn't be much impact
 by Metrics. We can confirm when we do performance tests.

 I will do the configuration change in Metric feature [1].

 Thanks!
