I started building with a clean M2 repo. I was able to successfully build, dependencies, orbit, core and components. The rationale behind this is, if we include a repository to a maven pom, maven checks and download dependencies from the set of repos. But if the artifact is a maven plugin (which is in this case, maven aar plugin) it does not try download from the given repositories unless we specifically say this using this pluginRepositories tag.
