[jira] [Created] (ZEPPELIN-4679) Interpreter doesn't start if interpreter ID contains space

  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: zeppelin-interpreter
Affects Versions: 0.9.0, 0.8.2

I was experimenting with JDBC interpreter for DSE's AlwaysOn SQL Service, and
created a new interpreter in UI that had the name "JDBC (AOSS)". When I did use
this interpreter in the notebook, the process didn't start because of the space
in the command:

[jira] [Created] (ZEPPELIN-4489) Disable zeppelin.anonymous.allowed when shiro is configure.

2019-12-14 Thread Prabhjyot Singh (Jira)
Prabhjyot Singh created ZEPPELIN-4489:
-

 Summary: Disable zeppelin.anonymous.allowed when shiro is
configure.
 Key: ZEPPELIN-4489
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ZEPPELIN-4489
 Project: Zeppelin
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: zeppelin-server
Affects Versions: 0.9.0
Reporter: Prabhjyot Singh

This is a proposal for removing/disabling `zeppelin.anonymous.allowed` when
Shiro is configured.
My Proposal in this JIRA is; let us remove this `zeppelin.anonymous.allowed`.
So, when Shiro is configured then Zeppelin server runs with all the auth
configured, and if the user wants anonymous access then they should not
configure Shiro.ini.

There can be a case where Zeppelin-Sever is running as

be requiring Authorization header.
Idea of this JIRA is to not clear those header when it behing proxy and control
it with config.

Given the size of vendor.js (2.6MB) alone, and the project has various other

[jira] [Created] (ZEPPELIN-3539) Add jceks stored password support for LDAP

2018-06-13 Thread Prabhjyot Singh (JIRA)

 Summary: Add jceks stored password support for LDAP
 Key: ZEPPELIN-3539
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ZEPPELIN-3539
 Project: Zeppelin
  Issue Type: Bug
Reporter: Prabhjyot Singh

In LdapRealm there is a property _ldapRealm.contextFactory.systemPassword_
where the user needs to set system password in cleartext, this provides an
alternate mechanism to store the same in jceks.

[jira] [Created] (ZEPPELIN-3526) Zeppelin auth mechanisms (LDAP or password based) should be mutually exclusive

2018-06-04 Thread Prabhjyot Singh (JIRA)
Prabhjyot Singh created ZEPPELIN-3526:
-

 Summary: Zeppelin auth mechanisms (LDAP or password based) should
be mutually exclusive
 Key: ZEPPELIN-3526
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ZEPPELIN-3526
 Project: Zeppelin
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 0.7.3
Reporter: Prabhjyot Singh

Problem:
When any external authentication (like LDAP/AD) is enabled for Zeppelin, the
default password-based authentication could still be configured in addition to
that. This makes space for backdoor in Zeppelin where user can still get in
using the local username/password.

Workaround:
Currently, the workaround is to make sure that \[users\] is removed from
shiro.ini to stop anyone logging using local username/password.

Proposed Solution:
Zeppelin shouldn't allow specifying \[users\] section in shiro.ini when it is
configured to authenticate with LDAP/AD.

I think this is one of the major refactoring/design change that will go out
as Zeppelin-0.8 where "conf/interpreter.json" is not supposed to be edit by
a human, it will be generated by Zeppelin. And if the above change is
needed then the user will need to edit (in this case)
"interpreter/jdbc/interpreter-setting.json", and then restart Zeppelin
server.

This is fixing backed Data duplication issue, which occurs because even after
the paragraph status is finished the Z-Server sends paragraph append command (

[DISCUSS] semicolons in javascript

2018-02-16 Thread Prabhjyot Singh
Dear Zeppelin devs,

In our current implementation of "eslintrc" semicolons disallow, and
generally, there are two schools of thought. The first is that we should
treat ASI as if it didn’t exist and always include semicolons manually. The
rationale is that it’s easier to always include semicolons than to try to
remember when they are or are not required, and thus decreases the
possibility of introducing an error.

However, the ASI mechanism can sometimes be tricky to people who are using
semicolons. For example, consider this code:

*return*
*{*
*name: "ESLint"*
*};*
This may look like a return statement that returns an object literal,
however, the JavaScript engine will interpret this code as:

*return;*
*{*
*name: "ESLint";*
*}*
Effectively, a semicolon is inserted after the return statement, causing
the code below it (a labeled literal inside a block) to be unreachable.
This rule and the no-unreachable rule will protect your code from such
cases.

Want to know your opinion on should we change this (eslintrc) to always
allow semicolons, which will make JS less error/accident prone and more
readable.

[jira] [Created] (ZEPPELIN-3240) Zeppelin server fail to start if interpreter has mixed properties

 Key: ZEPPELIN-3240
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ZEPPELIN-3240

  Issue Type: Bug
Reporter: Prabhjyot Singh

I found that Zeppelin server is failing to start when there is a mix of both
kind of properties in interpreter;

{code:java}
"properties": {
"shell.command.timeout.millisecs": {
  "type": "string",
  "name": "shell.command.timeout.millisecs",
  "value": "6"
},
"shell.working.directory.user.home": {
  "type": "checkbox",
  "name": "shell.working.directory.user.home",
  "value": false
},
"zeppelin.shell.auth.type": "KERBEROS",
"zeppelin.shell.keytab.location":
"/etc/security/keytabs/zeppelin.server.kerberos.keytab",
"zeppelin.shell.principal": "zeppe...@example.com"
  }
{code}

Mix as in these two kind of properties:

 - Where key is string and value is object
{code:java}
"shell.command.timeout.millisecs": {
  "type": "string",
  "name": "shell.command.timeout.millisecs",
  "value": "6"
}
{code}

 - Where key and value both are string
{code:java}
"zeppelin.shell.auth.type": "KERBEROS"
{code}

Currently, UI shows an option for version/GIT Control even when it is not
supported by the underlying implementing storage configuration.

It is only after users try to save a commit and get an error "Couldn't
checkpoint note revision: possibly storage doesn't support versioning. Please
check the logs for more details.".

So, if implementing storage configuration doesn't support git storage, UI
should not show those options.

[DISCUSS] Release 0.7.3

2017-08-29 Thread Prabhjyot Singh
Hi,

Since 0.7.2 release, we have resolved 22 issues and that includes most of
the critical issues in 0.7.3 umbrella issue [1].

With these bugs fixes, it makes Zeppelin moves towards stability, and I'd
like to proceed release process for 0.7.3 at this point and provide stable
release.

Remaining issue can be resolved in 0.8.0 release (or 0.7.4 if another
maintenance release is necessary).

Shell we proceed to 0.7.3?

Thanks and Regards,
Prabhjyot Singh

Travis seems to be failing at times with the paragraph state as Running and
expecting Finished. I believe we can increase this MAX_PARAGRAPH_TIMEOUT_SEC to
say 2min should solve this problem.

Increase MAX_PARAGRAPH_TIMEOUT_SEC in AbstractZeppelinIT for Selenium test

In Zeppelin we can do this

, and when this is enabled, that is the case which concerns me.

[DISCUSS] Behaviour of Interpreter when it is restarted

2017-02-22 Thread Prabhjyot Singh
This is WRT the PR that I've created
https://github.com/apache/zeppelin/pull/2034.

The issue that I want to discuss over here is how should an Interpreter
behave when it is;
 - restarted from notebook
 - restarted from Interpreter setting page
 - edited from Interpreter setting page
 - deleted from Interpreter setting page

Assuming Zeppelin is being used in Enterprise world, where not all user may
have access to Zeppelin's Interpreter setting page, say only restricted
user say "admin-group" have access to this page. Now when a restart, edit
or delete action is performed from Interpreter setting page; any of this
operation should terminate all the processes of that particular
Interpreter. On the other hand if it is restarted from the notebook page by
any User, then only process of that logged-in User should get affected.

How do you guys think of it?

The interpreters sometimes randomly throw connection refused error. When I try
to run a paragraph, it initially keeps on printing this:

And when I go to command line I see these zombie processes;

{code:java}
root@os-r7-zeppelin-we-sec-2 zeppelin# ps aux | grep interpreter

expired when hive.server2.transport.mode is http
 Key: ZEPPELIN-2063

  Issue Type: Bug
Reporter: Prabhjyot Singh

Hive Jdbc interpreter does loginUserFromKeytab at startup which expires after
kerberos ticket lifetime (1 day always due to a JDK Bug
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8044500)  Hadoop Client will re-login
once the ticket expired in case of RPC and so when hive.server2.transport.mode
is binary, Hive Jdbc interpreter does a relogin and works fine. But when Rest
API is used i.e when hive.server2.transport.mode is http, it is not doing a
re-login and so fails with GSS exception.

[jira] [Created] (ZEPPELIN-2023) User Impersonation fails on setting hive_conf_list in hive interpreter (JDBC)

2017-01-27 Thread Prabhjyot Singh (JIRA)
Prabhjyot Singh created ZEPPELIN-2023:
-

 Summary: User Impersonation fails on setting hive_conf_list in
hive interpreter (JDBC)
 Key: ZEPPELIN-2023
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ZEPPELIN-2023
 Project: Zeppelin
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 0.7.0
Reporter: Prabhjyot Singh
Assignee: Prabhjyot Singh

This is how a sample
jdbc:hive2://:,:/dbName;initFile=;sess_var_list?hive_conf_list#hive_var_list
 looks like. And when "hive_conf_list" is set then, User Impersonation which is
passed via "sess_var_list" fails.

Yes, agreed I too think its overhead, and all the features can be achieved
via JDBCInterpreter.
