More volunteers needed for nightly crash triage rotation

 Hello all,
the crash triage team needs your help in keeping Firefox stable! The
role of the triagers is to have a look at the crashes for a certain
version of nightly a few days after it has been released and file bugs
for crashes that haven't been identified yet. This is usually done to
quickly identify regressions but it often also involves looking at
low-volume crashes that flew under the radar or platform-specific issue
that only appear with specific configurations.

Triage is usually done on a daily basis: every triager looks at a
certain day worth of crashes, for example on Monday morning I analyze
the crashes for the previous Friday's nightly build.

Currently we need help for the following days:

* Monday nightlies (to be triaged on Wednesday or Thursday)
* Thursday nightlies (to be triaged on Friday or Monday)
* Saturday nightlies (to be triaged on Monday or Tuesday)

The days in which the triage will happen is a suggestion, if you have
time another day it's fine given it's at least 24-48h after the build
was released.

In case you're interested please contact me and I'll be happy to walk
you through the process and also mentor you for your first sessions if
you're unfamiliar with crash analysis.

For further information also please have a look at our wiki page, fairly
up-to-date docs are linked from there:

We still have an open slot to triage crashes from Firefox nightly Monday
builds. This should take place on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. If somebody
has some spare cycles please shoot me a message or fill the roster entry
yourself here:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/NightlyCrashTriage#Roster

I'd also like to thank everybody who has responded to this. The roster
is now almost full and we've been quickly finding regressions in
nightly, that's no small feat.

FYI quite a few people followed up with me by mail and in person so the
roster will soon be full again but more volunteers are still welcome. If
we have more volunteers than the slots I'm very happy to do rotations so
that we have more eyes on nightly and a lighter workload for everybody.

Volunteers needed for nightly crash triage rotation

2020-01-29 Thread Gabriele Svelto

Due to the recent layoffs the nightly crash triage roster has a lot of
holes so if you have some spare cycles please come and help out!

Nightly crash triage consists in looking at the crashes for a specific
version of nightly (e.g. the previous week Monday build), catching
regressions and filing them. Usually it takes no more than 30 minutes
per week and is a good way to learn more about Firefox internals and
interact with code you're not necessarily familiar with.

We've got detailed documentation [1] to get you started. We'll be adding
more docs about tools that make the job easier.

We've got four slots to fill ATM [2] but in the lucky case there's more
candidates than slots we're happy to rotate. Please contact me if you're
interested.
