It's unfortunately down still from the planned outage last night. ;(

It's being worked on, and we will bring it back up as soon as we are
 able.

 Sorry for the trouble.

The fedora infrastructure private cloud (and thus copr) is back up and
processing now.

Many thanks to the heroic efforts from Patrick Uiterwijk, along with
openstack neutron maintainers who brought things back up.

doesn't seem to. I made an update for rawhide and f23 branch with
evolution-data-server on Monday morning CEST. I know it breaks some
dependencies, because there had been done soname version bump, but I
didn't receive any notice of it yet. The usually arrive the next day.

Furthermore, I run my rawhide machine today and tried `dnf update`,
which didn't offer me the update of the evolution-data-server. I'd
expect to have it offered after two days of the koji build.

Maybe I missed some policy/update change?

No.

As I said this is a bug. We just haven't fixed it yet.

Things are very very busy in both infrastructure and releng right now
as we try and get things lined up for the upcoming alpha freeze.

We will try and get depcheck fixed soon, and sorry for the trouble.

Re: Fedora developer portal - proof of concept

2015-07-22 Thread Adam Samalik
Hi everyone,

I updated the prototype and tried apply your feedback:
https://developer-phracek.rhcloud.com/

I removed everything random from the home page and changed it - so it better
explains the purpose of the portal. The previous version was more about
previewing the technology and structure in the main menu. The homepage itself
wasn't that important - sorry again for not making this clear in advance.

We should be now able to use the prototype to:
  - preview the content from our content repo [1] (it's better than reading
markdown)
  - decide whether this structure is acceptable (and probably change it a lot)
  - and basically have something running

What it's not in the prototype:
  - section with docker images and vagrant boxes to download
  - section with blogs and updates

What I would like to do next? Ideally, if you find some time, I would like to
have a session with you, people interested in this project, to discuss the
content, structure and basically everything related to this. For example, I
really like how the Fedora Hubs project [2] is going. If we could do something
similar, even when the Fedora Developer Portal is not that big, it would be
really nice.

If you don't know what this is all about, please visit our project wiki [3] or
ask me any question.

Adam

Under The latest stable runtimes and frameworks Packaged in Fedora

GCC 5 is the first compiler to default to the latest C11 standard, and we ship
more of the latest C++ standard library extensions than any

There's a lot happening in that space, and not everyone gets excited

Personally, I'm a little uncomfortable with the phrasing Fedora is made for
developers. It implies that we don't do anything to make it great for

this?

As I mentioned in the first mail. This is proof of concept and will be
definitely changed.
UX team could look at it and let us know whether is fullfield with

Other pages which could be developed later on could have the same faces so that

I had a problem recently where the were some file conflicts between updates,
since that was only detected after the test transaction was run I had to try

download again all packages was definitively not welcome. :-)

At the time after the second attempt I run dnf with option to preserve the
cache.

Although it is not difficult it takes sometime to read manual and remember the
right option, or to change temporarily the configuration file, so I would like
to thank you for the change as well. :-)

Cool. I don't think garcon is the right place for it, but will ponder

 What does
matter is that XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP is correctly defined:

That should be in 4.12, but 4.10 (F21) would require a patch:

Yeah, I don't think we want to mess with f21 with this.

DNF Changes causing fedora-review errors

2015-07-22 Thread Gerald B. Cox
I ran across this while doing a fedora-review:

Package does not own files or directories owned by other packages.
Note: Dirs in package are owned also by:
  /usr/lib/gap/pkg/aclib/gap(languages, langpacks:, enabled, are, No),
  /usr/lib/gap/pkg/aclib/htm(languages, langpacks:, enabled, are, No),
  /usr/lib/gap/pkg/aclib/doc(languages, langpacks:, enabled, are, No),
  /usr/lib/gap/pkg/aclib(languages, langpacks:, enabled, are, No)

It apparently can be resolved by upgrading to dnf-langpacks-0.12.0-2

More detail can be found here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1244531

Just wanted folks to be aware that the recent dnf changes are affecting the
packaging tools.

This is the cleanest approach and what other services use, but I don't

 process.

Note that caps are weird on Linux. AFAIR they actually apply to
all kinds of tasks, including threads, not just processes. IIRC Go
does not give you control when exactly it creates threads, no? This
makes it difficult to drops caps sanely if you want to ensure they are
dropped in all threads at the same time, and not just in whatever
thread was the one started first...

The alternative would be worse. For example, the effective mask would
be nonsense if were shared between threads.

I always use soundcoverter, and i want help to mantain it, what i need to
 do?

Well, what do you think you could do?

There are various forms of package maintenance, such as:

1. Simply creating RPM packages for upstream's releases, forwarding all
bug reports to upstream.

2. Creating RPM packages based on upstream's source code, regardless
of whether it's an official release or a snapshot from the revision
control system or something with added patches, plus contributing
debugging and patches and/or forwarding bug reports to upstream.

3. Co-maintaining a Fedora package with other people, distributing
the various tasks among the team members: packaging, testing, debugging,
fixing bugs, communicating with upstream, handling Fedora bugzilla
tickets, handling updates and upgrades, cherry-picking of patches found
in upstream's SCM system or in other public places, keeping an eye on
build/runtime requirements, keeping an eye on upstream development.

Packaging requires getting familiar with RPM and Fedora's documentation
for members of the packager group:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Package_Maintainers#Get_Involved

Things a potential contributor/maintainer could examine:

* http://soundconverter.org/
* https://github.com/kassoulet/soundconverter
* state of the Python 3 code base
* https://bugs.launchpad.net/soundconverter/+bugs?orderby=-idstart=0
* soundconverter's dependencies in the Fedora package space

Re: Granting a capability to a service

2015-07-22 Thread Lennart Poettering
On Sat, 18.07.15 10:42, Florian Weimer (fwei...@redhat.com) wrote:

Let's assume I want to start a service as an ordinary user, but allow to
bind it to a privileged port. The program implementing the service does
not manipulate capabilities in any way.

I came up with with this system unit for testing purposes:

 [Unit]
 Description=Test unit

 [Service]
 Type=oneshot
 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/getpcaps self
 Capabilities=cap_net_bind_service+ep
 SecureBits=keep-caps
 User=fweimer
 StandardOutput=journal

Off-topic: This last line is implied, no need to specify.

However, this does not work, the capability set remains empty. Is there
a way to achieve what I want?

No. Capabilities currently cannot be passed across exec() without fcaps...

This design is really odd because setting file capabilities always
increases the attack surface (even if it is just the inheritable bits),
and the only alternative appears to modify the service so that it is
capability-aware and switches away from UID 0, and grant sufficient
capabilities so that it can do so. At that point, you can just skip the
configuration in the systemd service and do everything capablity-related
 within the program.

Yeah, Capabilities= is not particularly useful. CapabilityBoundingSet=
is much more useful, as that is not affected by fcaps. But then again,
it has quite a different effect...

What's worse is that in kernels before 2.6.24 passing caps across
exec() actually worked fine. Kernel broke API heavily in this regard
by introducing fcaps and altering the caps inheritance logic then.

It's unfortunately down still from the planned outage last night. ;(

It's being worked on, and we will bring it back up as soon as we are
able.

Sorry for the trouble.

Re: Orphaned SoundConverter

2015-07-22 Thread Alexandre Moine
Hi,

I'd love to help you to maintain soundconverter, I use it oftenly, and I
don't want it to desepear :)

I'm in holiday now, but I'll be glade to help you since I can.
I don't have a big experience in package maintaining, I only maintain
openmw in the rpmfusion repo.

Alexandre
Le 21 juil. 2015 12:59 PM, Michael Schwendt mschwe...@gmail.com a
écrit :

 Hello, everyone!

Package soundconverter will still have the initial owner, but over
the past five years I've been the only one to work on the package.
I really would have liked the occasional commit from someone else.

It has not been a low-maintenance package. Lots of bugs, race-conditions,
debugging and fixing required. Upstream contact has been good.

What else could be interesting for someone who would like to take
 over?

The current version is based on Python 2 and GStreamer 0.10.x.
There is a bit of work already on creating a version based on
Python 3 and GStreamer 1.0.x API, but nothing usable yet.

I assume that your libravatar is not showing because you do not have libravatar

It's being worked on, and we will bring it back up as soon as we are

 Sorry for the trouble.

The fedora infrastructure private cloud (and thus copr) is back up and
processing now.

Many thanks to the heroic efforts from Patrick Uiterwijk, along with

Re: Orphaned SoundConverter

2015-07-22 Thread Pranav Kant
Hi Michael,

I would like to take it over. Maybe Alexandre, and I can both
co-maintain it ? I also don't have a lot of experience in fedora
packaging (I maintain only 2 packages currently), but I guess this
would be a good package to learn a lot.

Sent you a request on pkgdb.

 in the rpmfusion repo.

Personally, I'm a little uncomfortable with the phrasing Fedora is
made for developers. It implies that we don't do anything to make it
great for non-developers, which is not true at all. Is there a better
way we can word this?

As I mentioned in the first mail. This is *proof of concept* and will be
definitely changed.
UX team could look at it and let us know whether is fullfield with
fedoraproject UX layouts.
Other pages which could be developed later on could have the same faces
so that

Re: tomcat-native orphaned

2015-07-22 Thread Peter Boy

I appreciate very much we’ll keep tomcat-native in the Fedora repositories,
thanks to Lorenzo. Although, I don’t grasp how Java Keystores could be a
replacement.

Is there really a need for it? Given that tomcat has good support for
java keystore, even keystores with poorly passphrased keys, is there
really a need for this package?

DNF 1.0.2 Released

2015-07-22 Thread Honza Šilhan
Finally there’s the new release of DNF which fixes the bugs which were highly
demanded from Fedora
community (former yum users). When a transaction is not successfully finished
DNF preserves downloaded
packages until the next successful transaction. The resolution configuration
hints are printed to
the output and user is notified which packages were skipped during update in
case there are conflicts.
The new –repofrompath switch was added and many more features implemented and
bugs fixed[1].

A test was failing without Math::BinInt installed.

I reclassified the dependencies according to the code and META.json.
Old spec had some optional dependencies as alwayes required. But these
was many years old without any explanation, so I removed them. If This
breaks user's expectations we can put them back.

Re: Boost updated to 1.58.0 in rawhide and f23

Hi,

I've pushed a new version of Boost, 1.58.0, to rawhide and f23, which
will require all packages that depend on Boost to be rebuilt. The plan
was to update to 1.59.0 but that isn't going to be released in time
for the F23 schedule, so I'll update rawhide to 1.59.0 at a later
date.

For the F23 rebuilds please use the tag f23-boost e.g.

 fedpkg build --target f23-boost

For the rawhide rebuilds please use the tag f24-boost e.g.

 fedpkg build --target f24-boost

Does this mean that maintainers are expected to rebuild their packages
themselves?

What's the usual policy? Should I be doing it? (Can I do it, if I
don't have privs to commit a new %release to the spec file and push
that?)

If I'm supposed to be doing it then I'll get started immediately :-)

Furthermore, I run my rawhide machine today and tried `dnf update`,
which didn't offer me the update of the evolution-data-server. I'd
expect to have it offered after two days of the koji build.

Maybe I missed some policy/update change?

   Hi again,
it looks like a dnf issue, see below. Even manual update from
 dnf-1.0.1-3.fc23.noarch to dnf-1.0.2-2.fc24.noarch didn't help.
   Bye,

BTW is there an option to turn on the full yum style dep resolution?
-v adds some but not what is pulling in a particular package (or
removing one) as part of a process. I might be strange but I do find
it useful for some use cases.

Package soundconverter will still have the initial owner, but over
the past five years I've been the only one to work on the package.
I really would have liked the occasional commit from someone else.

It has not been a low-maintenance package. Lots of bugs,
 race-conditions,
debugging and fixing required.

There is an outage scheduled for tomorrow, so all of the Taskotron
deployments will be down during that time.

I'm also planning to migrate qadevel to a new home - there will be no
user-facing changes at this time. We're planning to make some
significant changes to qadevel in the near future but are waiting on
some backend changes before we actually do so.

It took significantly longer than I was hoping but Taskotron
dev/stg/prod has been updated and qadevel has been migrated to a new
machine.

There should be no big changes here, everything user-facing should be
business as usual.

Please let me know if you notice something not quite working right.

Self Introduction: Stefan Nuxoll

2015-07-22 Thread Stefan Nuxoll
Hello -devel,

My name is Stefan Nuxoll, I am a new member of the Fedora QA team and I am also
looking to join the Package Collection Maintainers. I make heavy usage of
Fedora in my daily life - running Fedora 22 on my Dell XPS 13 for personal use,
in addition to a fleet of CentOS servers for my employer that is the eventual
downstream of work done within the Fedora Project (along with the EPEL
collection).

You can find me on IRC and pretty much everywhere online as 'snuxoll', I look
forward to working with you all.

Fedora Docker Images containing fedora-updates-testing packages

2015-07-22 Thread Jon Miller
Hello,

Wanted to point out an issue with the official Fedora Docker container image
for the fedora:20 image. While testing an internally developed package, I ran
into a package dependency problem with the installed openssl-libs package
which appears to have been installed from

[root@fedora-20 ~]# yum install /usr/bin/authconfig
...
Error: Package: 1:openssl-1.0.1e-42.fc20.x86_64 (updates)
   Requires: openssl-libs(x86-64) = 1:1.0.1e-42.fc20
   Installed: 1:openssl-libs-1.0.1e-45.fc20.x86_64
(@fedora-updates-testing/$releasever)
openssl-libs(x86-64) = 1:1.0.1e-45.fc20
   Available: 1:openssl-libs-1.0.1e-30.fc20.x86_64 (fedora)
openssl-libs(x86-64) = 1:1.0.1e-30.fc20
   Available: 1:openssl-libs-1.0.1e-42.fc20.x86_64 (updates)
openssl-libs(x86-64) = 1:1.0.1e-42.fc20
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

You can reproduce easily enough by pulling the latest available fedora:20
image from Docker and trying to install the authconfig-gtk package.

I tried with the fedora:21 container and it does not have the same
problem. Would be nice, however, if someone could help push an update.

We were just discussing this, and there is a pretty strong consensus
against pushing updates for EOL releases. Are you able to rebase to the
F21 (or F22) image?

Latest upstream release: 0.27
Current version/release in rawhide: 0.26-3.fc23
URL: http://search.cpan.org/dist/B-Utils/

Please consult the package updates policy before you issue an update to a
stable branch: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Updates_Policy

More information about the service that created this bug can be found at:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upstream_release_monitoring

Please keep in mind that with any upstream change, there may also be packaging
changes that need to be made. Specifically, please remember that it is your
responsibility to review the new version to ensure that the licensing is still
correct and that no non-free or legally problematic items have been added
upstream.

BTW is there an option to turn on the full yum style dep resolution?
-v adds some but not what is pulling in a particular package (or
removing one) as part of a process. I might be strange but I do find
it useful for some use cases.

Hi,
I finally used yum-deprecated to get the comprehensive list of all
broken dependencies by my update. The situation with dnf is confusing,
because it:
a) stops on the first broken dependency
b) doesn't tell about any error by default, which makes it look like
everything works properly, except of getting the new package which
I know is there. It's very confusing for such yum-old-school like me

Bye,
Milan

I did these for both branches when you announced it at the weekend.

Great, thanks.

nodejs-mapnik-0:1.4.17-7.fc23.src

This one is proving more interesting...

It builds fine for F23 but fails some tests on F24 although it still
builds fine with the old boost.

As best I can tell it's down to boost::spirit::karma but that hasn't
actually changed in the new boost, and in any case the new boost works
in F23. I'm kind of stumped at the moment.

I'll look into it and see if I can figure it out. It's good that the
F23 build is OK, as that's obviously the one with more time pressure.
