The re-review needs to be done by a fellow packager until the
unretirement can happen.

This sounds like a bug, you should not be able to unretire the package
(which seems to be the case), so there should be no notifications. Also
I am not sure, if it is currently correct, that there is a unretirement
button. Can you maybe upload a screenshot of the pkgdb aeskulap page for
yousomewhere?

cmake 3.4.0-rc1 heads up

2015-10-07 Thread Orion Poplawski
I built cmake 3.4.0-rc1 in Fedora rawhide last night. koschei has already
reported that it has caused build failures with plplot and paraview. Let me
know if you see any other cmake projects starting to fail to build.

Ewww! :-(

This opens the door to all kinds of duplication, waste of disk space, waste
of RAM, symbol conflicts and unfixed security issues!

So the next step after that is that we reward people who lower a

Experimented some more. If I edit /etc/mock/site-defaults.cfg and add

config_opts['yum_command'] = '/usr/bin/yum-deprecated'

My builds start working again. So I filed a bug:

I was thinking of cookies, but I expect that some sort of system could
be put in place that would help promote moving stuff to less bundling.
Now I understand the whole just use a whip to beat the supposed
packagers into line bit. I don't agree with it, but I can understand
it. I just think that sometimes you need to use a carrot to get the
mule to walk.

Badges was supposed to be that carrot for the mule's so perhaps there's
just missing new set of badges for this...

[EPEL-devel] Orphaned Packages in epel7 (2015-10-07)

2015-10-07 Thread opensource
The following packages are orphaned and will be retired when they
are orphaned for six weeks, unless someone adopts them. If you know for sure
that the package should be retired, please do so now with a proper reason:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_remove_a_package_at_end_of_life

Note: If you received this mail directly you (co)maintain one of the affected
packages or a package that depends on one. Please adopt the affected package or
retire your depending package to avoid broken dependencies, otherwise your
package will be retired when the affected package gets retired.

"Reward" how?

There shouldn't be any need for special rewards for a packager just doing
his/her job, instead, those who don't do it shouldn't be allowed to be
packagers.

The current situation with packages stuck in the review queue forever,
exception requests to FPC skyrocketing, etc. is the result of rampant
packager laziness.

Tim got back to me quickly. He doesn't have the time or need to
maintain them for EPEL 7. He offers to pass on the ownership to
another packager.

What next?

Request for unretirement of aeskulap

2015-10-07 Thread Jens Lody
I just asked for an unretirement of aeskulap [1]
It was retired because of dependency-problems before F22.
I fixed these problems and also a crash I found some times ago.

I just filed a (re-)review request on bugzilla [2].

I came in touch with aeskulap when searching for a tool to look into
dvd's with dicom-files of my daughter.
And I found it easy to use and "just work".

When updating to F22 I found it silently broken due to missing
dependencies.
I installed it on one of my testing VM's with F21.

After becoming a Fedora packager myself, I decided to try to fix the
dependency-problems and also a crash I recognized earlier.

I don't know exactly howto proceed now.
I opened the mentioned review, clicked the "Ask unretirement"-button
and write this mail.

After clicking the (unretirement-)button, nothing visible happens,
except for two notifications I got (one for F22 and one for Rawhide).

The aeskulap-timeline [3] does not show anything about the unretirement
-process.

So for the moment I will wait and just see what happens.

How does that help? It will just mean the user will never get the packages
because nobody will bother reducing the "points" if there is no policy that
requires it.

I was thinking of cookies, but I expect that some sort of system could
be put in place that would help promote moving stuff to less bundling.
Now I understand the whole just use a whip to beat the supposed
packagers into line bit. I don't agree with it, but I can understand
it. I just think that sometimes you need to use a carrot to get the
mule to walk.

please keep in mind that libseccomp currently supports only limited set
of architectures -
http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/libseccomp.git/tree/libseccomp.spec#n5
It will change (in Rawhide) after mainline kernel 4.3 release when s390
and ppc will become supported as well.

Nothing can stop you fighting against bundling, checking packages,
reporting bundling, working with upstream on unbundling etc. You could
at least try to take a positive view, not the most negative you can.

Those "badges" are completely useless as a reward. They're just a
nonsensical entry on some website that I don't give a darn about. And any
serious packager has a terabazillion badges already (including some for
things that shouldn't be rewarded to begin with, such as failed builds). And
the more new badges you create, the less value the existing ones have (and
they have hardly any value to begin with).

Really, people who do work not to make Fedora better, but to collect virtual
badges on some stupid website, are exactly the people who should NOT be
attracted.

I have taken LabPlot. However, I do not commit permissions or
administrator rights. I don't know what I am doing wrong here. I take
ownership of the packages but I do not become the admin!!

Not that I don't agree that we should pursue unbundling whenever possible,
but I don't remember any contract or terms that explicitly said *packagers* do
the work of *developers* to re-architect applications/services/etc to do
stuff like that. In fact, I thought *the whole point* of RPM packaging (and
indeed packaging in general) was to make it so that you could reliably
build and install software. Spiting upstream is just asking for trouble,
too.

Personally, I would consider "upstream does not support it" a very valid
reason to not unbundle. It gets very hard to pin down where the problems
are caused when the rug is pulled out from under you. Some applications do
all kinds of things with their libraries or code chunks to make it safe or
useful for their needs.

We should, of course, default to unbundling. But if it's not feasible, we
need a firm policy on how to include the software and continually engage on
developing solutions that are appealing to everyone on improving the
modularity of software and usefulness of reusing system copies of libraries.

The thing is, it should NOT matter at all how upstream feels. If we treat
unbundling as something to do with upstream, we already failed. Unbundling
must be done whether upstream likes it or not, even in upstream's spite! And
it's the packager's job to do it: "upstream does not support it" is NOT a

Funny I just filled a ticket with this issue [1]
So I believe the solution is drop all your request for commit and for
admin , orphan the package and take it again .

Both should work.

/usr/sbin/restorecon is a file-provides of the policycoreutils package
and
/sbin/restorecon is an explicit provides of the policycoreutils package

# rpm -qlp policycoreutils-2.4-13.fc24.x86_64.rpm \

=> Likely, something is broken with the depchecker used to generated the

 ceph-0.80.7-0.6.el7 (FEDORA-EPEL-2015-40bf39f476)
User space components of the Ceph file system

Update Information:

  ceph-0.80.7-0.6.el7 - remove python-rados and python-rbd packages to avoid
package conflicts - see http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/11104#change-59701 for
details This update adds version numbers to Ceph's RPM "Obsoletes"
directives. This should reduce the conflict between newer ceph.com releases
where the python- and -devel RPMs have not yet been split. See also

Free implementation of the server-side SMTP protocol as defined by RFC 5321

Update Information:

Issues fixed in this release (since 5.7.2): - fix an mda buffer truncation bug
which allows a user to create forward files that pass session checks but fail
delivery later down the chain, within the user mda; - fix remote buffer
overflow in unprivileged pony process; - reworked offline enqueue to better
protect against hardlink attacks. Several vulnerabilities have been fixed
in OpenSMTPD 5.7.2: - an oversight in the portable version of fgetln() that
allows attackers to read and write out-of-bounds memory; - multiple denial-of-
service vulnerabilities that allow local users to kill or hang OpenSMTPD; - a
stack-based buffer overflow that allows local users to crash OpenSMTPD, or
execute arbitrary code as the non-chrooted _smtpd user; - a hardlink attack (or
race-conditioned symlink attack) that allows local users to unset the chflags()
of arbitrary files; - a hardlink attack that allows local users to read the
first line of arbitrary files (for example, root's hash from
/etc/master.passwd); - a denial-of-service vulnerability that allows remote
attackers to fill OpenSMTPD's queue or mailbox hard-disk partition; - an out-
of-bounds memory read that allows remote attackers to crash OpenSMTPD, or leak
information and defeat the ASLR protection; - a use-after-free vulnerability
that allows remote attackers to crash OpenSMTPD, or execute arbitrary code as
the non-chrooted _smtpd user; Further details can be found in Qualys' audit
report: http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2015/q4/17 MITRE has assigned one CVE for
the use-after-free vulnerability; additional CVEs may be assigned:
