I've been using it for years. It takes a special setup, but works pretty well.

I do use some patches in grub from suse to take advantage of everything I need
which is documented here:

Voice recognition packages need a new maintainer

2017-03-13 Thread Jerry James
Hello everybody,

I am the primary point of contact for a handful of voice
recognition-related packages:
- cmusphinx3
- irstlm
- openfst
- opengrm-ngram
- pocketsphinx
- sphinxbase
- sphinxtrain

I have not used these packages myself for quite some time, and am
unlikely to start using them again anytime soon, so I think a new
primary point of contact is appropriate. I do get the occasional bug
report, as well as the occasional email thanking me for keeping these
packages in Fedora, so they do have users.

All of them are up to date with their latest released versions,
although the CMU Sphinx packages go years in between releases, so some
distributions track the upstream SCM instead of sticking to releases.

If you are interested in picking up these packages, let me know. If
you are interested, but not a packager, let me know anyway.

Regards,

[Help Wanted] PPC64LE build for thrift

2017-03-13 Thread Christopher
Hi,

I'm trying to build the latest version of thrift, and am running into a
problem with one of the build tests, which has a dependency on boost-static
for "%{_libdir}/libboost_unit_test_framework.a"

I really have no expertise with PPC at all, and also very limited knowledge
of autotools, but it looks like it's looking in the wrong libdir on PPC64LE.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Review Swaps: (mostly) very simple golang packages

2017-03-13 Thread Fabio Valentini
Hi everybody,

I've been putting together package Review Requests for all the golang
package dependencies of syncthing (an open source file synchronization
service). Some of them have already been reviewed (thank you, Jan! I feel
much more confident about my golang packaging now), but there are still 16
packages left.

The packages are (mostly) very simple (standard golang specs generated by
gofed), and I've added explanatory comments where they differ from the
automatically generated gofed output for the repository in question. I've
marked inter-dependencies between the packages as blockers / dependencies
in bugzilla, but included them below for easy reference. The full
dependency graph can be seen at
https://decathorpe.fedorapeople.org/packages/DependencyGraph.png.

Packages without blockers / missing dependencies:

1) golang-github-edsrzf-mmap-go - Portable mmap package for Go
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431568

2) golang-github-cznic-mathutil - Supplemental utilities for Go's rand and
math packages
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431587

3) golang-github-oschwald-maxminddb-golang - MaxMind DB Reader for Go
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431759

4) golang-github-AudriusButkevicius-cli - Small library for building CLI
apps in Go
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431761

5) golang-github-zillode-notify - File system event notification library on
steroids
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431867

Packages depending on one of the packages above:

6) golang-github-cznic-fileutil - File utility functions for Go (depends on
[2])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431732

7) golang-github-cznic-sortutil - Supplemental utilities for Go's sort
package (depends on [2])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431735

8) golang-github-cznic-strutil - Supplemental utilities for Go's strings
package (depends on [2])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431736

9) golang-github-oschwald-geoip2-golang - GeoIP2 lookup library for Go
(depends on [3])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431763

Packages further down the "dependency graph":

10) golang-github-cznic-internal - Shared dependencies for other cznic Go
libraries (depends on [1], [2] and [6])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431740

11) golang-github-cznic-b - B+ Tree implementation in Go (depends on [2],
[6] and [8])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431741

12) golang-github-cznic-zappy - Block-based compression format
implementation in Go (depends on [10])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431743

13) golang-github-cznic-lldb - Low-level database engine implementation in
Go (depends on [2], [6], [7], [10] and [12])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431745

14) golang-github-cznic-ql - Embedded SQL database written in Go (depends
on [2], [8], [11] and [13])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431748

15) syncthing - Continuous File Synchronization (depends on [4], [9] and
[14])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1427634

16) syncthing-inotify - Syncthing File watcher (depends on [5] and [15])
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1431868

Any help in getting syncthing into fedora is very much appreciated!

This output you are seeing is the rootDSE: It describes the features and
supported components of the server.

You will eventually be looking at cn=config, but for now your first
check to make the comparison work should be looking at objects from
lib389/idm/group.py for example. Make two groups in dc=example,dc=com,
then compare them.

You'll need a reproducable environment, so first, look at creating a
py.test case in lib389/tests/, and getting that to work, to build and
tear down an instance. We have plenty of examples in that folder of how
to do this.

From there you can create the groups, then work on the comparison.

I hope that helps you,

+Because Perl methods are just regular subroutines, it's difficult to tell

openSUSE Python packaging and Fedora

2017-03-13 Thread Neal Gompa
Hello all,

I've been recently somewhat involved in openSUSE stuff, and I caught
wind of a recent initiative to update their Python packaging.

Some background here: As some of you may know, for whatever unknown
reason, openSUSE has historically had separate source packages and
projects for Python 2 and Python 3 packages[1][2]. While this approach
does make packaging more trivial in some regards, it has had the
unfortunate consequence of making it so that the Python 2 and Python 3
packages of the same module often were wildly out of sync.

Last month, Jan Matejek (SUSE's Python stack maintainer, who is CC'd
to this email) unveiled his "singlespec" project[3][4][5] and began
transitioning Factory (their equivalent of Rawhide) to it. Factory has
been undergoing the transition for the last month rather successfully.

Now, in Fedora (and Mageia), "single spec" is not new to us. We've
been doing this for years. However, what is new is that openSUSE's
packaging structure allows for dynamically generating "flavors" as
subpackages to target Python 2, Python 3, PyPy, or whatever other
implementation of Python you wish to support. For people familiar with
openSUSE's Ruby packaging, this is not new, as it works the same way
there.

I've taken a look at how the new openSUSE Python packaging works, and
it appears to have shades of how Jason Tibbs' prototype Python
packaging works[6]. I've not dug too deeply into Jason's work, but
they do appear conceptually similar.

A deeper examination of the openSUSE packaging macros[7] reveals that
it's designed to be mostly a superset of our macros in Fedora and
Mageia. All the macros we currently use are defined in their macros,
except for one: %python_provide. For the openSUSE macros, the
"flavors" capability supersede the usage of %python_provide.

My main critique of the openSUSE packaging is that it enforces the
usage of alternatives to select the "unversioned" binary. In my view,
openSUSE uses alternatives too much across Python, Ruby, and other
languages where they have multiple stacks supported. I'd much rather
enforce a particular version of the binaries being unversioned
(preferably the Python 3 version, unless there's some compelling
reason otherwise) and have that always be used.

Another issue is that it depends on Python packages being reformatted
to match the new convention. Unlike openSUSE, we have not been very
good about pushing to restructure all of our Python packages to match
our new preferred convention. That being said, we also have the
advantage of having a Python dependency generator (though we are only
using it for generating Provides at the moment, Mageia uses an earlier
version of it to generate Provides and Requires, and openSUSE doesn't
have this at all). If we were to incorporate their work, it could be
modified to leverage our dependency generator so that this is less of
a problem. We could fall back to the structured Python module package
names when we're attempting to use modules that don't have the
Provides (which are basically modules not built using setuptools or
distutils).

However, I think that their work is complementary, and at least we
could incorporate their macros into our standard set of Python macros.
I would like to see us work with the openSUSE guys to see if we can
come together on a unified standard of macros. I believe there's
certainly a desire on both sides (especially with the OpenStack
packaging teams, who'd like to not have to duplicate each other's work
for their respective distributions).

What do you guys think?

Best regards,
Neal

[1] https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Policy_for_stalled_package_reviews

The latter. [1] is not enough, because it leaves stalled reviews as
"assigned" with most persons (esp. the package submitter) not noticing it.

From that page I think 1.1.2 is very much clear where I believe
reviewers are knowing all the policies that we have for Fedora
packaging and they can take actions given there but for 1.1.1 package
submitter need to know this policy page so that he can himself or
request someone to clear the fedora-review? flag. I don't think we
can/should enforce any criteria here to clear stalled reviews
automatically.

I think we need some kind of timeout automatism, e.g. to reassign all
reviews requests whose reviewers were inactive for some time (say 2 or 4
weeks).

Any packager can triage these stalled reviews as per
policy [1].

In cases of people who were AWOL'ed by FESCO, I would expect this to be
part of the "closing down the FAS-account" job.

One technical and management problem also exist: FAS accounts and BZ
accounts are not connected at all.

Is this policy page [1] not approved by Fedora Packaging Committee already?

I don't know, but don't think this page is FPCs job at all.

A couple weeks ago someone said one tends do ignore random ACL requests
not followed by an email or some other sort of contact.

Firefox 52 - ALSA backend disabled

2017-03-13 Thread Martin Stransky

Hi,

ALSA backend is no longer available in official Fedora Firefox builds
[1] since it has been deprecated by Mozilla and no longer maintained [2].

If you still want to use ALSA on Fedora builds, you just need to rebuild
Firefox with such option. Just set "alsa_backend" to 1 and run the build.

ma.

2017-03-13 Thread opensource
The following packages are orphaned and will be retired when they
are orphaned for six weeks, unless someone adopts them. If you know for sure
that the package should be retired, please do so now with a proper reason:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_remove_a_package_at_end_of_life

Note: If you received this mail directly you (co)maintain one of the affected
packages or a package that depends on one. Please adopt the affected package or
retire your depending package to avoid broken dependencies, otherwise your
package will be retired when the affected package gets retired.
