Incidentally, with deb packages, the package database retains knowledge
of uninstalled packages. I'd wondered why that was, but purhaps it's
used for cases like this. If that's the case, it doesn't seem all that

Re: Package suggestions

2017-06-16 Thread Artur Iwicki
I took a shot at packaging the game and it went rather smoothly. The only issue
I have is that the level packs don't really have a licence; the only copyright
info is a line at the end of the readme, stating: "This package [...] may be
distributed freely, as long as its contents are left intact and unmodified."

Is that enough for Fedora, and if yes - what should the License tag for the
package say?

I think rustup is great for managing rustc versions, and I do use it
myself, but I don't think it's a good fit for system packaging. It
wants to be interposed in your PATH with shims for rustc/cargo/etc., and
it also downloads updated toolchains itself. This is not in the spirit
of RPM-managed software.

For my own use, I first run "rustup toolchain link system /usr" and then
"rustup default system", so I'm primarily using the versions that I'm
responsible for packaging. :)

I'm actively working on fixing up Asterisk -- it took a while to get
systemd support back into dahdi-tools and get it unorphaned. Now, I'm
running into a problem where Asterisk won't build on s390x. See
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=20012396. That, in
turn, is probably going to mean pulling in a newer version of pjproject,
which has it's own issues on non x86_64 arches (see
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=20014157).

I'm hoping to get this all sorted out in the next few days.

Agreed, the proponents of the change must identify areas (packages)
which require adjustment.

Mentioned so far:
- fail2ban → should be OK, uses the journal
- sshguard → should be OK, uses the journal
- logwatch → should be OK, uses the journal
- denyhosts → does not care about timestamp format
- logcheck → needs to be checked

So for the first three, somebody needs to check whether their
default configuration is to use the journal (in which case they
should not be influenced by this Change at all), or if some
adjustment is needed.

logcheck needs to be checked.

I think you can ignore non-packaged / non-default configurations,
there's just no way to list, know, or check any of them.

Does anyone know of other software which parses rsyslog timestamps?

That’s not how Linux distributions work. Linux distributions are supposed
to provide a set of packages which work well *together*, and just washing
our hands off the brokenness and impact on users like the above would be
counter to that.

I think it’s the responsibility of the proponents of the change to come up
with a plan; the Change process was pretty much instituted exactly so that
there actually *is* *some* plan for seeing through breaking changes.

Now, “the plan” could still be “the proponents of the change will not do
anything, it’s up to the individual maintainers to review and fix their
software; they are being put on notice by the existence of this Change”,
and while some Changes really are like that (typically “upgrade to new
version of $widely_used_library”, where there is no other practical
alternative), I’d expect FESCo as the elected representatives of the whole
community to prefer better-coordinated plans with less risk of breakage —
and in this case FESCo has explicitly asked for a better plan.

running MTF tests in taskotron

2017-06-16 Thread Tomas Tomecek
Hi guys, I hope you don't mind me posting this to devel.

So I built nodejs module today (Friday) [1], went over to taskotron interface
to see if tests were executed [2]. Unfortunately, the tests [3] we have present
in the module dist-git were not triggered. Why?

It would be awesome if I could execute a command locally which would trigger
testing process inside taskotron. This way I could make sure the tests get
picked up correctly -- I definitely don't want to do rebuilds just for sake of
trying out tests.

The second question is about test test_component_profile_installability. Logs
[3] say this:

11:58:56 INFO | Command 'machinectl shell root@bash_1497613819.523692 /bin/bash
-c "(rpm -q --qf='%{name}\n' nodejs)>/var/tmp/stdout 2>/var/tmp/stderr; echo

/opt/chroot_bash_1497613819.523692/var/tmp/retcode`"'
11:58:56 DEBUG| [stdout] package nodejs is not installed

I understand that as a failure, but the test is marked as passed, can you
clarify? Also, what install profiles are you trying out? Would be awesome to
try installing every instal profile.

Ah, it's a feature. Anyway, it's pretty impossible to fix.

The problem is that there is no information why bash-completion is not
installed. Is it because it was not available in the repos before? Or
it was not installable because some other installed packages conflicted
with it? Or some dependency could not be met at the time? Or the user
installed dnf with weak deps disabled? Or it was installed and got
deinstalled?

So we simply don't know what the reason is. Just ignoring the
Recommends is as wrong as installing it. Add the package to your
exclude list if you don't want to have it installed. (Or disfavor list
at some point in dnf's future...)

This is possible to fix on DNF's end, but it is complicated to
implement. So if you really want to have minimal system, set
install_weak_deps=false in dnf.conf and use --
setopt=install_weak_deps=true when installing packages.

That's definitely a bug; it's not supposed to be doing that. Have you filed a
BZ? (And are you certain that something else isn't trying to Requires: it?)

Watchexec would be great.

Execute commands when watched files change

I'd like to help writing the spec file. I'd need some guidance though. Care to
help me out? If so, shoot me a direct mail.

Uh, what a long-shot, tiring issue for me! Giving it the last chance [1].
If I can help to FPC/rel-eng with fixing guidelines/processes, let me
know.

If there's some packager volunteering for the maintenance of
vim-syntastic, please ping me. I'll otherwise move the package to copr
(for mostly personal usecase) once the package is "garbage collected".
Thanks for understanding.
