package blocked for tag f27-updates-candidate

2017-10-23 Thread Alexander Ploumistos
Hi,

I've been trying to build a new version of a package (scidavis) and it
fails on f27 every time with the message "FAILED: BuildError: package
scidavis is blocked for tag f27-updates-candidate".
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=22657927

Is this because of the Final freeze, or is there some other problem? I
thought that packages without freeze exceptions were supposed to get
stuck in bodhi, not koji.

I took a look and plenty of other packages which don't seem to be
critical path build fine for the same tag.

Best regards

Well, that's... interesting. It's not clear to me why; as far as I
knew, they both passed the mass rebuild. Or, rather, the binutils mass
rebuild: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_27_Binutils_Mass_Rebuild.
I haven't touched the packages since then.

I'd be interested to know if this has happened to any of the other
packages on the list...

Autumn Elections 2017: Collection of questions for Questionnaire has been started

2017-10-23 Thread Jan Kurik
For this Election cycle [1] we are going to follow a new way how
Elections are organized. It is an outcome of a discussion on Council
level [2] trying to improve participation of the Fedora Community in
the election process.

Today we are starting collection of questions for Election
Questionnaire [3]. The collection period ends one week after the F27
Final GA date, which means there is a time at least to November 6th to
collect these questions.

For the beginning I have copied the questions from previous Election
cycle. Feel free to add more questions or modify the current questions
of the Questionnaire [3].

The full schedule of the Autumn Elections 2017 is available on the
Elections wiki page [4] and on the detailed schedule for F27 [5].

[EPEL-devel] updating superlu to 5.x (soname update)

2017-10-23 Thread Mukundan Ragavan
We would like to update SuperLU to version 5.x in EPEL 7. This would
introduce a soname change for libsuperlu. The packages that depend on
SuperLU are armadillo and hypre.

I have created a COPR [1] where we have built all three packages. They
seem to build fine. If they are issues that others expect due to the
soname bump, please let me know.

Assuming no issues, we are looking to build in the next couple of days.
I will rebuild all the dependent packages.

Thanks,
Mukundan.

Where is this list sourced from? I maintain both of these packages,
and to my knowledge, they're building fine. (And no FTBFS bugs have
been filed against them).

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=23320
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=23342

This makes me slightly dubious about the rest of the list.

Re: Mass rebuilds update

2017-10-23 Thread Michael Cullen
I have a PR up for edb - if i get chance I might take a look at a couple
of others on that list.
In in the case of edb it’s looking a lot like the maintainer is
unresponsive - probably like for many of the package on that list.
Thanks,
Michael

[Bug 1502214] abi-compliance-checker: behavior changed within f25 release

2017-10-23 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1502214

Unfortunately upstream didn't mention this in the changelog but the only way to
fix it would be to bump the Epoch and rebuild.

While inconvenient, I would think the bug fixes and new features are preferable
to downgrading the package at this point.

I'm curious what the manifestation of corruption is, and whether any on the

Hello community,

Hey Lukas. Thanks for chiming in here.

We, as Red Hat SELinux team, apologise for recent delays with our
answers to your requests and questions related to SELinux. We have been
quite busy last couple of weeks so we decided to set a lower priority
for Fedora work. We already responded and resolved what was needed and
we are ready to react more flexibly in the future.

Perhaps you could outline the best ways for people to contribute/get
attention? bugzilla bugs? github issues? PR's?

Also, perhaps it would make sense to move to a more normal looking
release flow instead of a massive patch? I think that might make it
easier to see whats going on and how to contribute.

This "massive" patch is here because, we diverted from Upsteam policy.
Because Upstream policy is much more strict, you cannot even boot F26+
just with upstream policy. We confine more services then upstream and
we're more benevolent.

This should change, and we're trying to focus on technical solution
which should decrease amount of maintenance of selinux-policy. We'll
inform you about this project.

Note: If you are interested in writing custom SELinux policy for your
package, you can follow the
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SELinux/IndependentPolicy documentation
on wiki.

Perhaps you could submit this to the FPC and get it reviewed and moved
under the normal packaging space?

Will do.

Lukas.

Re: Improving Linux laptop battery life: Testers Wanted

2017-10-23 Thread Hans de Goede

Hi,

On 21-10-17 20:50, Kevin Fenzi wrote:

On 09/14/2017 04:22 AM, Hans de Goede wrote:

Hi All,

My next project for Red Hat is to work on improving Linux laptop battery
life.
Part of the (hopefully) low hanging fruit here is using kernel tunables to
enable more runtime powermanagement. My first target here is SATA Link
Power
Management (LPM) which, as Matthew Garrett blogged about 2 years ago:
https://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/34868.html
can lead to a significant improvement in battery life.

There is only one small problem, there have been some reports that some
disks/SSDs don't play well with Linux' min_power LPM policy and that this
may lead to system crashes and even data corruption.

As such I've written a new LPM policy, which matches the power-management
defaults from the Intel RST Windows drivers. Since it mimicks Windows,
this new policy will hopefully not hit any SSD firmware bugs like min_power
sometimes does.

So now I'm looking for people with a laptop with a SATA SSD or HDD to help
me test this to make sure this won't cause any issues when we enable this
by default for F28, for more details and test instructions see:

https://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/18412.html

Hey Hans. I had marked this to try and do to help gather info, but
things have been busy and I haven't ever gotten to it.

I thought before I did I might ask if you already have the info you were
looking for since it's been over a month now.

How have reports been? Is it perhaps time to enable this in rawhide?

I've had successful test reports from 10 people, of which 1 person
was actually seeing data corruption on his ssd with min_power and not
with the new med_power_with_dipm policy my patches add, which is good
news really :)

But 10 testers is not that much, so if you still feel like testing this,
then some more testing would definitely be welcome.

Regards,

Hans

And you might need to submit (or ask Fedora maintainer to submit)
protobuf as a limited-arch package for ppc64:

Re: Self introduction: Aivar Annamaa

2017-10-23 Thread Benson Muite

Hi Aivar,

Welcome to Fedora. Python special interest group may have helpful
suggestions as well:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Python
They have a separate mailing list.

Regards,
Benson

On 10/20/2017 02:53 PM, Aivar Annamaa wrote:

Hi!

I am computer science teaching assistant in University of Tartu,
Estonia. I'm on my way to get a PhD in CS education. Over the last few
years I've developed a nice tool for teaching (Python) programming to
the beginners -- Thonny IDE (http://thonny.org). It's main strength is
its program run-time visualization capabilities (see the homepage for
screenshots and video).

Thonny is growing in popularity (I'm proud that Raspberry Pi education
team has chosen it to be Raspberry's default Python IDE), but it's not
in the Fedora repository yet.

I've prepared the package (SPEC
, SRPM
)
and I was able to build

it for Fedora 27, Rawhide and Mageia 6. I haven't found the sponsor yet
(review request ).

I'm willing to take care of Thonny in Fedora for long time.

I've written (or contributed to) some other open-source tools, mostly in
Python (eg. virtual robot library for teaching programming
) but also in Java (statical
checker for SQL strings in Java code ).

best regards,
Aivar
