Re: AMD Sensor Fusion HUB kernel module

On 2020-10-30 1:04 a.m., Peter Robinson wrote:

AMD Sensor Fusion HUB codes finally recently landed on Linux kernel for
5.11 [1]. It will be nice one of developers build only an installable
rpm mobule for testing purpose (screen autoration depending of the
position) on AMD mobile Ryzen powered convertible laptops (in my case,
Ryzen 2500u on a HP Envy x360 [2]).

Well it could be pulled if it causes troubles, the merge window for
Linus' kernel for 5.11 won't open until mid december and it should
just get enabled in rawhide at that point.

Basically, wait for the kernel 5.11 snapshot to try out.

Re: odd behaviour for copr builds and openmpi

2020-10-30 Thread Orion Poplawski
They are generated by the rpm requires/dependency generators in
rpm-mpi-hooks, so that needs to be in the buildroot when the package is
built.

The libraries/binaries also need to be installed into the
%{_libdir}/openmpi/{bin,share,lib} hierarchy.

HTH,
  Orion

On 10/30/20 2:30 PM, Mark Olesen wrote:
I need to follow up on my own post - still haven't figured out how the
RPM requires are done.

In the first step, I've completely stripped out my package so that it
only builds a simple library (pretty much an mpi "hello world"), and an
executable to call it. Wrapped them in a spec file, and these also only
create a dependency on

     libmpi.so.40()(64bit)

For comparison, I've rebuilt libptscotch (mpich and openmpi) using
sources and specs pulled from the srpm. These rpms build correctly *and*
they also have the expected dependency on

     libmpi.so.40()(64bit)(openmpi-x86_64)

I don't understand how the rpm dependency check on the built libraries
works in one case, but not in the other.

The only thing I can imagine is that for the ptscotch build, it uses
mpicc instead of gcc + libraries. But even so, how is that information
propagate through the libraries?

Any hints, even a polite "rtfm" with the name of the docs I am missing
would be very welcome at this point.

Thanks,
/mark

This will presumably also affect Fedora, but need to recheck.
We are experiencing some very odd build behaviour using copr to
compile for various Fedora and CentOS/RedHat versions
(https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/openfoam/openfoam).

The built package on centos8 is automatically given the requirement

- libmpi.so.40()(64bit)

But the openmpi package actually provides

- libmpi.so.40()(64bit)(openmpi-x86_64)

pyelftools update in rawhide

2020-10-30 Thread Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski
Hi!
I'm updating pyelftools to 0.27 in rawhide. Here's the changelog:
https://github.com/eliben/pyelftools/commit/ba73057e2503fe4b6f44eb0e9c1d5a747a235628

The package is not required at runtime by anything, as far as I can
tell, and is only BuildRequired by four packages:

dpdk
erlang-rpm-macros
python-cle
python-pwntools

I Bcc'd the maintainers. Coincidentally, I don't remember why I took
this package anymore, so if anyone wants to take it over or co-maintain,
let me know.

Regards,
Dominik

Are you only adding the libraries?
The mpi wrapper does varies things, and generally MPI expects to be
called using the wrappers.
openmpi's mpicc adds these flags: -I/usr/include/openmpi-x86_64 -pthread
-Wl,-rpath -Wl,/usr/lib64/openmpi/lib -Wl,--enable-new-dtags
-L/usr/lib64/openmpi/lib -lmpi

A link to the copr builds would be useful to see what flags you have
been using.
I would also suggest to try to build with mpicc and see whether that
fixes the issue.

Re: odd behaviour for copr builds and openmpi

2020-10-30 Thread Mark Olesen
I need to follow up on my own post - still haven't figured out how the
RPM requires are done.

In the first step, I've completely stripped out my package so that it
only builds a simple library (pretty much an mpi "hello world"), and an
executable to call it. Wrapped them in a spec file, and these also only
create a dependency on

libmpi.so.40()(64bit)

For comparison, I've rebuilt libptscotch (mpich and openmpi) using
sources and specs pulled from the srpm. These rpms build correctly *and*
they also have the expected dependency on

libmpi.so.40()(64bit)(openmpi-x86_64)

Thanks,
/mark

The built package on centos8 is automatically given the requirement

- libmpi.so.40()(64bit)

But the openmpi package actually provides

- libmpi.so.40()(64bit)(openmpi-x86_64)

I have been using it pretty much daily and haven't had any issues. Is
this only with F33?

I am Rawhide user, so yes, it might be F33+ issue, because I observe
this behavior already for a few months.

I have only just updated my "work" machines.

Possibly a misbehaving plugin?

Could be. I have received new LP today, maybe I should start from
scratch and try without plugins.

(X)Wayland issue? Clutter? GTK?

While the package can be built it cannot be installed due to

provides perl(Object::Remote::Role::Connector::PerlInterpreter) needed by
perl-Net-OpenSSH-0.80-1.el8.noarch
(try to add '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages or '--nobest' to use
not only best candidate packages)

So looks like perl-Object-Remote is required first.

Re: Mass spec change: Replace Python 3 version globs (3.?) with macros to support 3.10

This now is an epistemological discussion. :-)
I would not say that the assumption was wrong, IMHO it was right.
People did not assume that version had a single digit they simply took what it
worked. Because if you look back in history both python 1 and python 2 had
only single digit so why should we add another level of complexity?

The same already happened before and in this case it affected python when the
linux major version went from 2 to 3.

Because if we go to a defensive programming, as an example, we should always
check the return value of printf (C/C++). There are places where it makes
sense but in most places and in most cases that only makes the code longer,
hard to read and hard to maintain.

And that was one of the reasons why there are projects changing from the
semantic versioning to a scheme where only the major version number is
relevant, e.g. gcc, octave, the browsers...

My original remark was on purpose ignoring that trauma, that in part was also
self-inflicted, and joking about that. :-)
After all this is one way to deal with trauma, or not? :-)

Regards,

Well it could be pulled if it causes troubles, the merge window for
Linus' kernel for 5.11 won't open until mid december and it should
just get enabled in rawhide at that point.

AMD Sensor Fusion HUB kernel module

2020-10-30 Thread Luya Tshimbalanga

Hello team,

AMD Sensor Fusion HUB codes finally recently landed on Linux kernel for
5.11 [1]. It will be nice one of developers build only an installable
rpm mobule for testing purpose (screen autoration depending of the
position) on AMD mobile Ryzen powered convertible laptops (in my case,
Ryzen 2500u on a HP Envy x360 [2]).

Thanks in advance
