[Test-Announce] Proposal to CANCEL: 2021-04-19 Fedora QA Meeting

2021-04-17 Thread Adam Williamson
Hi folks! I'm proposing we cancel the QA meeting on Monday. We'll be
mainly focused on trying to get F34 Final built and signed off this
week.

If you're aware of anything important we have to discuss this week,
please do reply to this mail and we can go ahead and run the meeting.

Thanks!

[Test-Announce] 2021-04-19 @ 16:00 UTC - Fedora 34 Blocker Review Meeting

2021-04-17 Thread Adam Williamson
# F34 Blocker Review meeting
# Date: 2021-04-19
# Time: 16:00 UTC
# Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.freenode.net

Hi folks! We have 2 proposed Final blockers and 2 proposed Final freeze
exceptions to review (as of now), so we'll have a Fedora 34 blocker
review meeting on Monday.

If you have time this weekend, you can take a look at the proposed or
accepted blockers before the meeting - the full lists can be found
here: https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/ .

Remember, you can also now vote on bugs outside of review meetings! If
you look at the bug list in the blockerbugs app, you'll see links
labeled "Vote!" next to all proposed blockers and freeze exceptions.
Those links take you to tickets where you can vote.
https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/blocker-review has instructions on how
exactly you do it. We usually go through the tickets shortly before the
meeting and apply any clear votes, so the meeting will just cover bugs
where there wasn't a clear outcome in the ticket voting yet. **THIS
MEANS IF YOU VOTE NOW, THE MEETING WILL BE SHORTER!**

We'll be evaluating these bugs to see if they violate any of the
Release Criteria and warrant the blocking of a release if they're not
fixed. Information on the release criteria for F34 can be found on the
wiki [0].

For more information about the Blocker and Freeze exception process,
check out these links:
 - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:SOP_freeze_exception_bug_process

And for those of you who are curious how a Blocker Review Meeting
works - or how it's supposed to go and you want to run one - check out
the SOP on the wiki:

Have a good weekend and see you on Monday!

There shouldn't be a reason not to package it just because it doesn't work
on old hardware.

Hello,

I have a dependency that is a C++ library for SIMD (called highway).
This library requires SSE4 as its minimum required instruction set
("Supported targets: SSE4, AVX2, AVX-512, NEON (ARMv7 and v8), WASM
SIMD."). However the minimum for Fedora is SSE2. Am I still allowed to
package this despite the requirement being above what's minimum for
Fedora? It won't compile on old systems but building works fine in Koji.

Best regards,

Relevant FESCo discussion and decision:
https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/2569#comment-713002

The text that was voted on:

Libraries packaged in Fedora may require ISA extensions, however
any packaged application must not crash on any officially supported
architecture, either by providing a generic fallback implementation OR
by cleanly exiting when the requisite hardware support is unavailable.

It is still stuck in the pipeline to get the packaging guidelines
changed, though:
https://pagure.io/packaging-committee/issue/1044

Hope that helps.
Fabio

What if the problematic binary is just a test program used during build
and not shipped in the final package? It works on Koji and don't cause
any problem there and won't be a problem at all since the resulting
package is a headers only library.

Thanks,

License change and so-version bump in side tag: libinstpatch

2021-04-17 Thread Benjamin Beasley
The License field for the libinstpatch 1.0.0 (a pre-release version from SVN)
packaged in Fedora 32–34 has been corrected from “LGPLv2+” to “LGPLv2 and GPLv2
and Public Domain”.

In Fedora 35, libinstpatch has been updated to version 1.1.6, which brings
another license change, to “LGPLv2 and Public Domain”, and a so-version bump
from 0 to 2. Also the directory containing the headers now ends in the
so-version (%{_incdir}/libinstpatch-2), but dependent packages all use
pkgconfig and do not care.

I have built the update in the side tag “f35-build-side-40054”. The following
PR’s cover the dependent packages:
