Testing went fine in Virtualbox

Updated a Fedora 34 Respin Image to the Fedora 35 from today and it went
fine, but took its while as it was a 1,7GB download and 3443 package
updates

Hi!

Everythings seems to be ok.

Regards.

Do you want to make Fedora 35 better? Please spend 1 minute of your

# Run this only if you use default Fedora modules

sudo dnf module reset '*'

sudo dnf --releasever=35 --setopt=module_platform_id=platform:f35 \

--enablerepo=updates-testing --enablerepo=updates-testing-modular \
distro-sync

This command does not replace `dnf system-upgrade`, but it will reveal
potential problems.

You may also run `dnf upgrade` before running this command.
If you get this prompt:

...
Total download size: XXX M
Is this ok [y/N]:

you can answer N and nothing happens, no need to test the actual
upgrade.

But very likely you get some dependency problem now. In that case,
please report it against the appropriate package.

Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed
in Fedora 35. Please check existing reports against

fedora-obsolete-packages first:

 https://red.ht/2kuBDPu

and also there is already bunch of "Fails to install"
(F35FailsToInstall) reports:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?bug_id=1927313_id_type=anddependson=tvp_id=12125305#

Removed "qt5-qtbase-ibase" package and distrosync command went fine:

From qt5-qtbase changelog it looks like this package was disabled due
to Firebird FTBFS on s390x which was later fixed.

So probably qt5-qtbase maintainers (Cc-ed) need to enable it back.

I think I proposed this during the last round of updates, can we add
"--assumeno" to this command line, to avoid potential unintended updates?

This command does not replace `dnf system-upgrade`, but it will reveal

You may also run `dnf upgrade` before running this command.

If you get this prompt:

you can answer N and nothing happens, no need to test the actual upgrade.

But very likely you get some dependency problem now. In that case,
please report it against the appropriate package.

Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed
in Fedora 35. Please check existing reports against

I wonder if we should retire the remaining eclipse packages from f35
before the final freeze, as well? The main "eclipse" package is
already gone, so most of them are not installable anyway and will
probably cause upgrade issues (this may be a case for
fedora-obsolete-packages?).

I doubt this is going to be possible. Windows PE DLLs have some
complicated machinery for declaring exported symbols. Plus (like ELF)
I imagine the compiler needs to generate quite different code for
static vs dynamic.

Donate 1 minute of your time to test upgrades from F34 to F35

2021-09-07 Thread Miroslav Suchý

Do you want to make Fedora 35 better? Please spend 1 minute of your time and
try to run:

# Run this only if you use default Fedora modules
# next time you run any DNF command default modules will be enabled again
sudo dnf module reset '*'

sudo dnf --releasever=35 --setopt=module_platform_id=platform:f35 \

--enablerepo=updates-testing --enablerepo=updates-testing-modular \

distro-sync

This command does not replace `dnf system-upgrade`, but it will reveal
potential problems.

You may also run `dnf upgrade` before running this command.

If you get this prompt:

...
Total download size: XXX M
Is this ok [y/N]:

you can answer N and nothing happens, no need to test the actual upgrade.

But very likely you get some dependency problem now. In that case, please
report it against the appropriate package.

Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed in Fedora
35. Please check existing reports against

fedora-obsolete-packages first:

https://red.ht/2kuBDPu

and also there is already bunch of "Fails to install" (F35FailsToInstall)
reports:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?bug_id=1927313_id_type=anddependson=tvp_id=12125305#

Could you perhaps just build a new dynamic library (with the adjusted
name) by linking an empty/dummy object with the Fedora-provided static
library? (Not sure if that's possible, but it's what came to my mind
when reading this thread.)

it's not fully clear yet that it's feasible. If it turns out to be
infeasible, what preferences does Fedora have? (Renamed dynamic
libraries shipped separately, shipped as part of Wine, static
libraries, etc...)

Adding -static subpackages is the easiest option from our point of
view. As I mentioned in the previous email this would mean adjusting
an existing spec such as:
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/mingw-gnutls/blob/rawhide/f/mingw-gnutls.spec
so that it builds the static library. It's a simple and obvious
change.

But can Wine use the static library built this way unmodified?
And are there any other implications versus using a DLL?

I believe we should be able to use unmodified static libraries, yes.

There are the usual implications—more space on disk and in memory; in
Wine's case it doesn't really matter a lot, but we do still have cases
of multiple DLLs that use the same library. It may be possible to use
helper DLLs to avoid that in most cases.

And, of course, I hate developing with static libraries :-(

* Since most other distributions don't ship any mingw libraries
(yet), and since Fedora doesn't ship all of the libraries we need
yet either, we will probably need to include code in wine to fall
back to imported sources or submodules. Is this acceptable to be
used in Fedora, at least on a temporary basis?

There is a bundling policy:

   https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/#bundling

As a general rule of thumb it's better if the upstream package can be
either configured (or maybe automatically) to unbundle those
dependencies for which system equivalents exist. eg:

   ./configure --without-bundled-gnutls

would use the system mingw-gnutls. Without that flag it might use a
bundled version that it carries along.

The bundling policy matters because of security concerns.

I would say the other thing about bundling: Please don't add private
patches to the bundled libraries! Huge pain for distributors because
it effectively means we have no idea what is being bundled, which
again has big security implications when someone has to work out if
some bundled library is vulnerable to a CVE. Get the patches to the
upstream projects.

I'm pretty sure we don't want to add any private patches, so at least
there's that.

Review swap for new azure-cli dependency

2021-09-07 Thread Major Hayden

 Hey there,

I'm in the process of updating azure-cli to 2.28.0, but it added a new
requirement for another SDK component called
azure-synapse-managedprivateendpoints. That one isn't packaged currently, but
I've proposed a package in BZ 2001918[0].

The package is quite simple and matches most of the other python-azure-* SDK
components that are already packaged. Would someone be able to do a review swap
so I can get azure-cli updated?

I'm most familiar reviewing Python, C/C++, and golang, but I can always learn
something new. 

Thank you!

2021-09-07 Thread Ankur Sinha
Hi folks,

I'd like to get these two Python modules reviewed please. Would anyone
like to swap reviews?

They're required to package datalad, which is required for
spikeextractors---both on the Neuro SIG's package queue.

What is the output of running:

sudo grub2-editenv - list

Also is this a multi-boot system, or does grub at least think it is
a multiboot system? IOW does your grub-menu have a "Windows"
boot entry?

On multiboot systems the menu is always shown so that you can pick
Windows at boot.

Rich.
