Re: percona-xtrabackup bundling the kitchen sink in static libs

2022-08-22 Thread Otto Liljalaakso

Paul Wouters kirjoitti 23.8.2022 klo 3.07:

Hi,

I looked at fixing percona-xtrabackup and noticed it is staticly linking
to a bunch of libraries. These .a files are then removed in %install so
they are not shipped. It bundles a bunch of this stuff from its extra/ dir:

duktape  googletest  icu  libcbor  libedit  libevent  libfido2  libkmip
lz4  protobuf  rapidjson  robin-hood-hashing  zlib  zstd

On top of that, it pins boost to a specific (older!) version and bundles
boost

seperate via dist-git / sources :(

The relevant policy is Bundled software policy [1]. Unlike in the past,
a package does not need a FESCo exception to bundle dependencies.
However, the requirements of that policy are not being met here: The
reason for bundling should be recorded in the specfile, and Provides:
bundled(x) = 1.2.3 should be included.

[1]: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Bundled_Software_policy/

I've just fixed it up in the same bad way, making it link to the old
openssl just to get it past F35FailsToInstall for rhbz#1989019. It is
going through rawhide and the branches now. But I think perhaps this
package should be removed from rawhide.

This package clearly breaks a lot of packaging rules, so I was
wondering if there was ever any exception of some kind given to this
package? I will definitely look at $dayjob migrating away from this,
eg see if myhoard or mariabackup can be used instead.

Any feedback would be appreciated, as it seems the maintainer is MIA.

If the maintainer is not responding, you should invoke the
Non-responsive maintainer policy [2]. This package has CVE bugs open
[3], so most probably it should eith be retired, or somebody should
start caring for it.

percona-xtrabackup bundling the kitchen sink in static libs

2022-08-22 Thread Paul Wouters

Hi,

I looked at fixing percona-xtrabackup and noticed it is staticly linking
to a bunch of libraries. These .a files are then removed in %install so
they are not shipped. It bundles a bunch of this stuff from its extra/ dir:

duktape googletest icu libcbor libedit libevent libfido2 libkmip lz4
protobuf rapidjson robin-hood-hashing zlib zstd

On top of that, it pins boost to a specific (older!) version and bundles boost
seperate via dist-git / sources :(

I've just fixed it up in the same bad way, making it link to the old
openssl just to get it past F35FailsToInstall for rhbz#1989019. It is
going through rawhide and the branches now. But I think perhaps this
package should be removed from rawhide.

This package clearly breaks a lot of packaging rules, so I was
wondering if there was ever any exception of some kind given to this
package? I will definitely look at $dayjob migrating away from this,
eg see if myhoard or mariabackup can be used instead.

Any feedback would be appreciated, as it seems the maintainer is MIA.

Wine/FAudio & self introduction.

2022-08-22 Thread Aaron Stern via devel
Greetings all.

My name is Aaron, I contribute packages for openSUSE
(https://build.opensuse.org/users/ukbeast89) and am looking to help bring
updates to wine and FAudio.
I have already created a PR for FAudio
(https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/FAudio/pull-request/2) as a way to get my
feet wet with Fedora's way of packaging.

If anyone has any questions about me or my experience in Linux, please ask.

Regards. Aaron.

Re: SPDX migration progress

2022-08-22 Thread Jilayne Lovejoy
That would be a bit hard since a large number of the SPDX ids are the same as
the Fedora short names. That being said, some of the more commonly found
licenses are not the same.

It might be interesting to see how many packages have had a license update
since this change, which could indicate updating to SPDX, as well as updating
the license information more generally, as we've seen some cases of already.

To be honest, I've been thinking more about how to efficiently deal with some
of the "category" Fedora short names specifically (need more brainstorming on
that), than overall progress.

Re: Poco soname bump in rawhide/f37

2022-08-22 Thread Carl George
The updates policy requires that you notify this list and the
maintainers whose packages depend on poco a week in advance.

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#_rawhide

I found out about this due to the mumble FailsToInstall bugs that were
filed earlier today.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2120237
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2120233

In the future, please follow the policy so everyone has a chance to
adapt to stuff like this in time. It's especially painful for this to
happen on the day before the change code completion deadline.

Review swaps

2022-08-22 Thread Artur Frenszek-Iwicki
Hey all,

I have two packages which have been sitting in review for some time now:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2095732
daniel-wikholm-segment16-fonts - collection of 3 font families.
Bit problematic because of missing license text, not having an official source
website, nor a way to contact the author.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2098373
gearhead2 - an RPG game, written in Pascal, using SDL1.2.
Fairly straight-forward. The prequel, gearhead1, is already in the repos, and
the spec files are very similar.

If anyone could take a look at one of these, I'd be grateful.
I'm willing to review some C, C++, Pascal or shell stuff in return.

Did you just build directly in Rawhide after listing *61* packages
that would break from the update?

It might be fine to share this, as long as you are not patching upstream
wasi-libc in some weird way. Rust's use is pretty minimal from vanilla
sources, and mostly only updated when we need compatibility to build
with a new Clang, in wasi-libc's Makefile "check-symbols" target.

Neal, I was just about to write you an email asking for support.

I have already tried this, and followed the cloud kickstart example. But 2
problems:
a) BiosBoot does not work, despite the separate grub2 installation step.
b) The UEFI boot screen looks horrible.

Any idea about this?

Thanks
Peter

I agree, and I tried that at first, but run into issues (see my previous post)

Just for clarification:
That ServerVM is dedicated not for use in the cloud. It lacks to many features
for that usage. It is specifically a Fedora Server Edition workalike to be used
as a VM in a Fedora Server Installation (or any other server) with libvirt/KVM
and has some features which cloud images removed (because of cloud
requirements).

And *currently*, libvirt/KVM defaults to biosboot, therefore this needs to work
flawlessly.

Also rubygem-font-awesome-rails with rubygem-prawn-manual_builder

Yes, ideally any cloud images will be built such that they can boot on
both BIOS and UEFI, to maximise cloud compatibility.

More specifically I believe this kickstart file is what Fedora images
are derived from:

libvirt supports UEFI VMs just fine too. That said, you probably would
want to make it a hybrid boot system to support both.

You can see how it's done in Fedora Cloud.

Imagefactory always uses uefi to create the vm for image creation

2022-08-22 Thread Peter Boy

Does anyone know how I can configure ImageFactory / OZ to use a BIOS VM for
image generation? Unfortunately I haven't found any documentation on this.

For explanation:

ImageFactory uses a temporary VM to create a virtual machine disk image.

At least since F36 it uses UEFI for this. If you want to create a biosboot
image (which is the default in libvirt), this image cannot be booted in a UEFI
VM. The build process either waits indefinitely for a UEFI compatible image or
returns a non-bootable image.

This also happens when I use an old host that does not support UEFI at all.

At least with F34 this was different according to my memory.

Re: SElinux policy question on F34... lots of "device_t:sock_file write" AVCs

The denials rather indicate some problem on your filesystem. Are you aware
of any recent changes?

Just guessing, but try to execute the following command to display
incorrect labels:

  # restorecon -Rvn /run/systemd/journal
or even (which can take a long time)
  # restorecon -Rvn /

To troubleshoot further, show currently mounted filesystems, installed
selinux-policy packages, and enable full auditing:

   # mount | grep tmpfs
   # rpm -qa "selinux-policy*"
1) Open the /etc/audit/rules.d/audit.rules file in an editor.
2) Remove the following line if it exists:
-a task,never
3) Add the following line to the end of the file:
-w /etc/shadow -p w
4) Restart the audit daemon:
 # service auditd restart
5) Re-run your scenario.
6) Collect AVC denials:
 # ausearch -i -m avc,user_avc,selinux_err,user_selinux_err -ts today

And this may or may not be related, but I'm also getting a lot of ssh

This cannot be assessed without any data.

Cc:ing Josh because Rust apparently already builds wasi-libc.

I doubt that right now, one static build of wasi-libc will be able to
support both the Rust use cases and the NodeJS use case. The versions
will likely be different, and the WASI interfaces are still evolving.
So if you package this separately, you probably should use paths with
“nodejs” in the name.

Another alternative would be to build wasi-libc from sources during the
NodeJS build, with the wasi-libc source either packaged separatedly, or
bundled with the NodeJS sources. The former is how Go and Rust source
builds work in Fedora, so it's not that unusual.

Note that wasi-libc swaps out musl's malloc for dlmalloc, which is
licensed under the CC0 license, and this is no longer considered a
Fedora-compatible software license.

You cannot use the Fedora build flags for WASI because it's not a
GNU/Linux target. I don't know what WASI (or WebAssembly) do to emulate
-fstack-clash-protection. In theory, compiling for WASI could produce
explicit bounds checks for the addressable stack, which has to be
visible in addressable memory for C/C++ compatibility. This is probably
the only portable way to implement something like
-fstack-clash-protection because WebAssembly is supposed to be portable
to systems without a MMU. Even a more traditional implementation of
stack clash protection would need support from the WASI layer because of
the page size requirements.

Thanks,
Florian

Waiting for a package review for that long is definitely not something
we want to happen.
Have you tried posting on the devel list, asking for a review, or
proposing a review swap?

And no, the announcement explicitly included this information:

> (Note that pagure.io is one of the systems

> around will prevent you from showing up in the second round.)

However, it looks like there isn't even an open ticket for you here:
https://pagure.io/find-inactive-packagers/issues

So there's nothing you need to do right now, since you're not
considered "inactive" at all.

It's like 10,000 spoons, when all you need is removal from the
packager group. But yes, I'm manually handling those cases. Right now,
it's by putting them on a list of "people who will show up as active
but have acked removal". I have plans for how that can be handled in
the future without me keeping a separate list on my Todoist task. But
for now I am (slowly) going through every comment on tickets to make
sure that everything gets handled correctly.

I'm sorry, which point were you trying to prove with these links?

-> https://akkadia.org/drepper/dsohowto.pdf

This is a ~50 page document, of which one page refers to DT_GNU_HASH,
and only contains a short description of how to use it.

This is a mailing list post by you, and you wrote:

"""but for the final specification I'm afraid you need to read
binutils and/or libc sources."""

This looks like a reverse-engineering effort of the binary DT_GNU_HASH
format based on the source code - it starts with:

"""The problem with it is that DT_GNU_HASH is not documented anywhere
other than in GNU binutils and glibc source code."""

This compat package was enabled 7 years ago. Do we have some
guidelines whether applications outside of Fedora should be
considered, or how long generally it is expected for a compat package
to be available?

Suggestion: Bring back ncurses-compat-libs

2022-08-22 Thread LuK1337
Hello,

I recently updated to prerelease F37 and to my surprise I noticed
that ncurses-compat-libs has been removed in this change:
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/ncurses/c/e9317e9.
Is there any chance that we could bring this package back? AOSP prebuilt
LLVM toolchains still depend on libncurses.so.5, and it's slightly
inconvenient to have to workaround that problem when building AOSP.
